Remembering Nityananda Prabhu's Glory (1)

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Singur, noon programme
14 February 2021, part 4
Translated from Bengali

[His Divine Grace chants 'Nitai-pada-kamala' and resumes the class.]

As you know, soon, on 25 February, is the appearance day of our Nityananda Prabhu. Nityananda Prabhu's glory is such that if you get His mercy, the result is inconceivable. Mahaprabhu Himself sang Nityananda Prabhu's glory.

Nityananda Prabhu mostly stayed at the house of Srivas Pandit. When He came to Nabadwip, He stayed at the house of Srivas Pandit. Srivas Pandit's wife, Malini Devi, was maybe seventy years old, but Nityananda Prabhu called her Mother, and when He called her Mother, milk would flow from her breasts! He drank her milk. How great His glory is! Milk would flow from a seventy-year-old lady!

One day, Malini Devi was washing the Deities' dishes. Suddenly, a crow came and took the puja glass. Malini began to cry. Nityananda Prabhu came and asked her what had happened, and she explained, "A crow has taken the glass. If Your father [Srivas Pandit] comes and gets to know about it, he will scold me." Nityananda Prabhu said, "Mother, do not worry! I will see to it." Then, He cried out to the crow, "Hey crow! My Mother is crying, give the glass back!" The crow came back and returned the glass. The crow obeyed Nityananda Prabhu.

The lotus feet of Nitai are cooling like ten million moons—not just one moon, but ten million moons. Just as the sun gives light, the moon also gives light, but when the sun gives light, it is warm, and when the moon gives light, it is cold. So, Nitai's lotus feet are as cooling as ten million moons. It is said in the scriptures about Nityananda Prabhu:

উত্তম, অধম, কিছু না করে বিচার ।
যে আগে পড়য়ে, তারে করয়ে নিস্তার ॥

uttama, adhama, kichhu na kare vichara
ye age padaye, tare kraye nistara

"Nityananda Prabhu does not consider who is good and who is bad, He saves anyone who falls before Him."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Adi-lila, 5.208-209)

Nityananda Prabhu does not judge whether somebody is high or low—whoever falls at His feet, He rescued them. Such is His glory!

One time, Mahaprabhu and Nityananda Prabhu came to Kalna to visit Gauri Das Pandit. When They finished taking prasad, Mahaprabhu said, "Gauri Das, We are taking your leave now."

"Prabhu," replied Gauri Das Pandit, "You have come by Your own wish, but You can leave only by my wish. You have never come to my house before, and I will never let You go now."

"Oh really? But We have to go preaching, We have to go house to house! How can preaching if We only sit at your house?"

"I do not know these things, I do not understand these things. I will not let You go!"

Then, Nityananda Prabhu and Mahaprabhu were sitting on the veranda, and Mahaprabhu thought of a very clever idea. He called out to Gauri Das Pandit, "Gauri Das! Come here! Will you let Us go?"

"No way, I will not let You go!"

"All right, then, look back, inside the room," said Mahaprabhu.

Gauri Das Pandit looked behind and saw Gaura Nitai Deities in the room! They were just like Gaura Nitai who were sitting at the veranda! So, Mahaprabhu asked Gauri Das Pandit,

"So, whom will you keep? Will you keep Us or Those in the room?"

Gauri Das Pandit kept the Deities, and Nitai and Gauranga could leave the place.

Sanatan-siksa: Krishna's Beauty
'From all Krishna's Pastimes, the best are His human Pastimes, where His form is just like that of a human being. His dress of a cowherd boy, His carrying a flute, His lasting youth and expert dancing all suit His human Pastimes very much.'

Thakura vaisnava-gana
'Destiny is very powerful. It does not listen to my knowledge of religion and always binds me with the ropes of karma. I do not see even a trace of hope. All I see is hardship. Thus helpless and distressed, I cry.'

When you are in your house practise the same way as you are doing here at the temple.
