Sri Ekachakra Dham, evening class

We become exploiters of our guru because we think about our guru superficially – we only see all the external things of our guru. That is how we end up worrying about gurudev's big buildings, but we do not think about service to our gurudev. There is one story I have heard from one Maharaj's holy mouth. When I attend some programmes, I always listen attentively what they say.

One time, a guru took his disciple on a journey. In olden days, there were no cars or so many means of transport, and sadhus would move from one place to another with their things. Sometimes, when people now also go high in the mountains, there are places where cars cannot go, so people use horses to reach some places.

So, one sadhu told his disciple to pack his things, and they got on a horse cart. The guru told his disciple, 'Keep a close eye on my things and make sure nothing falls off the cart. If anything falls off, pick it up at once.' The disciple was a little foolish – his guru told him, 'Pick up whatever falls off,' and when he saw that some stool fell out of the horse's backside, he started picking it up!

'Fool! What on earth are you doing?!' the guru scolded him.

'You told me to pick up whatever falls off!' the disciple replied.

Then, the guru made a list of all his things (his stick, umbrella, rope, glasses, the tilak clay, the pancha-patra pot, etc.) and told him to watch over the things on the list. The road they were taking was as bumpy as Uluberia roads (When we go in a car in Uluberia, we are always scared the car can overturn – you can imagine how it is when you are going in a horse cart then...) Suddenly, the cart got into some hole in the road and the guru got thrown off the cart.

'Catch me! Hold me! Help!' the guru shouted.

The disciple took out his long list and started going through it, 'Oh, a stick, an umbrella, ...'

'Why are you not coming to help me?!' the guru shouted at him again.

'Sorry, you are not on the list!' the disciple said.

'You are not on the list!' That is the service mood we have... We must always remember this.

Discard Your Mind
'Whether happiness comes or sadness comes, it is the same; whether your enemy comes or your friend comes it is also the same. It is not even necessary to think who is your enemy and who is your friend.'

Every year we think we will join this festival next year, but only Krishna knows
whether we can join or not.
