(1/1) Karauli Madan-Mohan
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
When Govindaji and Gopinathji were brought to Jaipur, they were worshipped by temple priests or brahmans, but Madan-mohan was worshipped by the daughter of Jaipur king. She was not married, and from a very young age she served Madan-mohan. Since the girl was the king's daughter, eventually her marriage was arranged with a Karauli king and she had to get married. Her father gave her much money, gold and wealth as dowry, but the girl started to cry and asked her father, 'Father, you have given me much money and gold, but you have not given me the real wealth – you have not given me my Madan-mohan.' The father told her that he would send Madan-mohan to her later. Time passed, and the girl kept writing letters to her father (there were no mobile phones at that time, so people used to communicate through letters), 'Father, when will you send Madan-mohan to me? I cannot live without Him!' In the end, the king decided to make another Deity for her. He called a Deity maker and told him to make a Deity that would look exactly like Madan-mohan. When the Deity was ready, the king and the queen went to visit their daughter, taking the Deity to her. 'Here is your Madan-mohan,' they said to the girl. But the girl had been serving Madan-mohan, so she understood that her parents were trying to cheat her – they had not brought the original Deity. Just see the glory of service! As the result of service, she knew the Lord so well. She could see that it was not real Madan-mohan. 'Father,' she said then to her parents, 'you are lying to me. This is not real Madan-mohan.' Her parents were nonplussed, 'How did she understand it?!' Then, they brought the original Deity and put the two Deities next to each other. They asked their daughter, 'How will you know now which one is your Deity?' The girl replied, 'You can tie my eyes, I will still know it.' They tied her eyes with a cloth, and when she touched the original Deity of Madan-mohan, Madan-mohan grabbed her hand! The Deity is not a doll – the Deity can speak, can see, can give witness. When Madan-mohan took the girl's hand, He spoke to her, 'You had been serving Me for a very long time, but you left Me and went away. I could not even eat without you...' Then the girl told her parents, 'Look, Father! Look, Mother! My Madan-mohan has caught me!' Then her parents understood that she was Madan-mohan's special servitor. They admitted, 'We have made a mistake, we should not have tried to keep Madan-mohan at home. Please keep Him with you.' This is how Madan-mohan came here, to Karauli. This is the history. Hari bol, Hari bol, Hari bol. Hare Krishna!
