(4/7) Find Evidence His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Service to jiva souls brings benefit to the soul (atma). Satisfying the whims of your mind is not Krishna consciousness—Krishna consciousness means serving Sri Guru and Vaishnavs in strict adherence to them and pleasing their mind. You listen to eight-prahar kirtans, you go to twenty-four-prahar kirtans, you go everywhere, you go wherever there is some programme, you go to the places even where there are hired kirtan singers, you go to the places even where hired people read Bhagavatam, but you cannot do that. You cannot go anywhere and everywhere. One time, I was talking to Gurudev, and he asked me, "Will you stay at Chandravali's kunja or Radharani's kunja? Who do you want to stay with?" Not knowing anything, I replied, "With Radharani." Gurudev said, "Yes, it is the correct answer. Do you understand why? If not, I will explain it." That time, Gurudev explained to me who Chandravali is and who Radharani is. Everyone is not one and the same. Those who genuinely take shelter at the lotus feet of their Guru always serve Gurudev following his order. Sometimes, you do not like some service, and you say, "I like this service", "I do not like begging, I like cooking", "I am not chanting my mala, why must I go to stir pots and cook?" Such thoughts come to us, but when Gurudev tells you to do something, you must do it. Many also say, "I cannot do it!" but why do you think you are doing it? When Gurudev gives you an order, he will do it through you, then why does it come to your mind that you cannot do it? Gurudev is the centre of the disciple's heart. Who is a disciple? Not everyone who takes initiation becomes a disciple. It is necessary to take initiation and receive the mantra, this is the rule, but one does not become a disciples only by taking initiation. Those who place Gurudev's chastisement on their heads and can mould themselves according to that chastisement (who can correct themselves accordingly) are called disciples. You can find many gurus in this world, but the number of disciples is very small. Just as it is very hard to find a genuine disciple, it is also very hard to find a bona fide guru. To become a guru, one must first become a disciple. If you want to become a guru, you must first become a disciple! You must judge for yourself: to what extent do I follow Gurudev's instruction? You must examine yourself and find evidence of the extent to which you follow Gurudev's instruction. This is how we must always serve the Lord, strictly following Sri Guru and Vaishnav. If we can please Sri Hari and Sri Guru, that is our benefit—we will get all auspiciousness, all goodness. Our Gurudev will take me to the lotus feet of the Lord and engage me in the service of Sri Sri Radha-Govinda in Goloka, Vrindavan. Who can give you the right to serve? Only Guru can give one the right to serve Sri Sri Radha-Govinda. That is why we sing in one of the kirtans, "Sevaya adhikara diya ei-bara more kare daya—please give me the right to serve!"
