(3/4) Keep Your Vision Clean

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Preaching programme, evening
Translated into English from Bengali
18 February 2020, part 3

In this world, people worship the Lord for three reasons. The first reason is fear. The second is out of hope to get something (dharma, artha, kama, moksa – religiosity, money, material attainments and liberation). These desires have no end. Even if somebody has millions and millions of rupees, they will still say, 'I want one more factory.' Pure devotees do not want all this from the Lord. The third category of people pray to the Lord because they know that the Lord is the embodiment of eternity, consciousness and bliss and that we are His servants, so we must serve Him. Most people serve the Lord for this reason. But how many people practise spiritual life and serve the Lord with love and affection?

When a mother raises her son, does she love her son only out of duty or does she love her son because she feels genuine affection for him? A mother takes care of her son and bring her son up out of love. In the same way, we must care for the Lord out of love – we must do everything for the Lord with affection. There is no scent of lust in prema (transcendental love). Pure love for the Lord is very high – it has nothing to do with the love that you know in this world. This is what we must think about, but instead we always think about dharma, artha, kama, moksa.

If you leave a small child, a boy, alone on the street, he will start eating soil. If his mother sees it, she will come and take the soil out of his mouth. The child will start crying, 'My mother does not let me eat!' He does not know how harmful it is to eat soil – he wants to eat soil. In the same way, we ask the Lord for money, cars, houses. But the more money you get, the more you will worry how to keep it, and if you have a lot of money, you will become proud and others also will see your money and grow jealous of you. So many problems come with money. You will worry about how to protect your wealth, you will hire security and so on. Even Gandhi had to employ a security guard. [Devotees laugh, probably remembering that Gandhi was killed by one of his security guards.] If you have money, you will worry, 'Where shall I keep it?', 'Whom should I leave it to?' Do you not ever think of this? You will never know any peace or happiness with money. You can ask a poor man who does not have food to eat and you can ask a rich man who has millions of rupees whether he is happy or not.

Chanting: Any Place
'One day Mahaprabhu went to the bathroom with His tongue stuck out between His teeth..'

Somebody goes to Vrindavan and sees the Pastimes of Radha-Krishna, and somebody
sees the monkey stool instead. The eyes are different.
