(5/6) Live for the Lord His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Krishna is very merciful, and Gaura-Nityananda are even more merciful. Although we are very fallen souls, it is our great fortune that Krishna and Gaura Hari are keeping us at Their lotus feet. Gurudev tolerated so much for us, that is also our great fortune. We are giving so much trouble to our Gurudev, but he is always giving us love and affection. He sometimes chastises us also, but he does that also with love and affection. You cannot see any other incarnation like that of Gaura and His pastimes: not Kurma, not Varaha, not Rama, not Nrisingha. In all other incarnations of the Lord, we can see that the Lord destroys demons, but in Kali-yuga, Gaura-Nityananda gave the Holy Name to demons. We must be more serious in our practising life. It is very important for us. I told yesterday also that when sannyasis go for preaching, they may not always get a temple environment everywhere, but they must make a temple atmosphere in whichever house they go to. That is good for them. When Sripad Bhakti Hriday Bon Maharaj went for preaching in Kolkata, he happened to go to a prostitute street. There is such a quarter in the central avenue in Kolkata. Bon Maharaj did not know where he had come, but when he saw many prostitutes standing next to their houses, he became shy. The women gave some donation to him (two rupees or five rupees). When Bon Maharaj later gave that donation to Srila Prabhupad, he cried. Srila Prabhupad asked, 'Why are you crying?' 'I have lost everything,' Bon Maharaj replied. 'What happened? Tell me,' Srila Prabhupad asked again. 'I went to a prostitute street...' Bon Maharaj said, shyly. 'Oh, and you think you have made a big mistake? Am I also making a mistake then? You think you have made a mistake today, but am I making the same mistake every day then?' What did Srila Prabhupad mean? He sent devotees and went for preaching himself to visayis' houses (materialists' houses). Such people are also like prostitutes. So, Srila Prabhupad said, 'I also go to their houses for preaching, am I doing wrong then?' Bon Maharaj was very happy to hear it. I also go begging and take some devotees with me sometimes. When we collect potato, we collect it from devotees, but when we collect rice, the owners of the rice mills are very materialistic people – they have very much money and are very materialistic. They take a loan from a bank, and when the bank starts giving pressure to them, their brain becomes overloaded. But Srila Prabhupad said, 'Take a loan to print books. When you have to repay the loan, you will have to go door to door and collect more.'
