Blessings and Guidance
of Srila Prabhupad
(spoken at the time of his departure)

(Translated from a Bengali article published in Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math's Sri Gaudiya Darshan, Year 1, Issue 6: 12 January 1955 / 27 Paush 1362)
(His Divine Grace's departure date: 16th Paush 1343, Thursday, daybreak [Bengali]; 1 January 1937, Friday [English])

'I have caused anxiety to many people because I was bound to tell the truth candidly; because I have told to practise Krishna consciousness without deceit, many people may even consider me their enemy. To become eager to sincerely serve Lord Krishna, leaving all other desires and deceit, I have caused various anxiety to many people. Some day or another they will understand what I am saying.

'Everyone should preach Sri Rupa-Raghunath's conception with great enthusiasm. Our greatest aspiration is to become dust at the holy lotus feet of the followers of Sri Rupa Goswami. You should all stay together in exclusive submission (anugatya) to asraya-vigraha [holy embodiment of shelter; Sri Guru] with the only purpose to satisfy the transcendental senses of the Supreme Absolute (advaya-jnana). Everyone should somehow carry on their lives in this temporary two-day world with the only purpose to practise Krishna consciousness. Even amidst a hundred dangers, a hundred abuses and a hundred insults, never leave Krishna consciousness. Seeing that most people in this world are not accepting service to Krishna, do not become disheartened, do not leave your own spiritual life, your own all-in-all: Sri Krishna-katha sravan and kirtan (hearing about Lord Krishna and glorifying Lord Krishna). Becoming humbler than grass and more tolerant than a tree, always practise Hari-kirtan (chanting the glories of the Lord, preaching about the Lord, practising Krishna consciousness).

'We are cherishing the aspiration to offer this body, which is like a decrepit bull (an old, good-for-nothing man), as ghee into the fire of sankirtan of Sri Krishna Chaitanya and His associates. We have no desire for any material or religious heroism, but our intrinsic nature (svarupa) – our all-in-all – is dust from the holy lotus feet of Sri Rupa Prabhu, birth after birth. The current of Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur will never be stopped, and you must make it your vow to preach about Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur and to fulfil Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur's inner desire with even more enthusiasm. There are many qualified and illustrious persons left among you. We have no other aspiration; our only message is:

আদদানস্তৃণং দন্তৈরিদং যাচে পুনঃ পুনঃ ।
শ্রীমদ্ রূপ-পদাম্ভোজ-ধূলিঃ স্যাং জন্মজন্মনি ॥

adadanas trnam dantair idam yache punah punah
srimad-rupa-padambhoja-dhulih syam janma-janmani

'Holding grass between my teeth, I beg again and again: "May I birth after birth become dust at the holy lotus feet of Srimad Rupa."'

'When you live in the material world, there are many various problems, but we do not need to become overwhelmed with these problems or try to remove them. What is necessary for us is to realise now, while we are alive in this world, what we will get after all these problems go away, what our eternal life will be like. In this world, there are many things that appeal to us and repel us (things that we want and do not want), and it is necessary to find a solution for both. The more distanced we are from the holy lotus feet of Krishna, the more attracted we are to the appealing and repelling things of this world. When you transcend the appeal and repulsion of this world and become attracted to the transcendental Holy Name, then you can understand the transcendental nectar of service to Krishna (Krsna-seva-rasa). What is related to Krishna appears to be very startling and perplexing. Everyone who is called a human is to a varying extent struggling, consciously or unconsciously, to eliminate external factors which obstruct the perception of our eternal necessity. Our only necessity is to transcend this strife and enter the kingdom of our eternal necessity (nitya-prayojana).

'In this world, I feel no attachment or enmity to anybody. In this world, all arrangements are fleeting. Everyone has this indispensable necessity for supreme necessity. Establishing yourself exclusively in a common purpose, you should attain the right to serve (seva-adhikar) the main asraya-vigraha. May the current of thoughts focused on Sri Rupa's followers flow in this world. May we never, under any circumstances, exhibit enmity towards the seven-tongued fire sacrifice of Sri Krishna-sankirtan. If you have exclusive, ever-increasing loving attachment to it, you will attain all perfection. You must all preach about the conception of Sri Rupa-Raghunath with great enthusiasm and in an undaunted voice, in exclusive submission (anugatya) to the followers of Sri Rupa Goswami.'
