Relief and Relish

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
29 July 2013

Sraddha, sadhu-sanga, sravan, kirtan, Bhagavat sravan, Mathura vasa, sraddhaya sri murtir sevana—you must connect everything you do with the Lord, then you will get a real benefit for your spiritual life.

Our life is very short, but until death we must preach Krishna consciousness, we must follow Krishna consciousness. Material desires always keep coming, but we must remove them. In Saranagati, Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur says, "I think about my wife, I think about my sons, and by the time all sons and daughters get married, my life is finished! When will I practise Krishna consciousness?" If you read Saranagati, you can easily understand that our time is always going, our life is always passing, but you will not get this kind of opportunity again.

Srila Vishvanath Chakravarti Thakur also wrote an example. Imagine you are driving a car and suddenly you have to go to the toilet to pass stool, but you have no time and there is no proper place to do that. You start feeling so much pain, you have to go to the toilet, but you wait, wait, wait... You wait for three-four hours, and when you finally get a good toilet and pass stool, you relax and feel so much relief. So, Vishvanath Chakravarti Thakur says that when you renounce material desires, material attachment you will feel a relief—what kind of relief? The same kind of relief that you feel after you go to the toilet.

Do you understand?

You can join any time, but actually association is necessary. Sometimes you can come for the Ratha-yatra festival—during the seven days we go to many holy places. Also, you can sometimes join our fifteen-day Vrindavan-Govardhan-Haridwar-Rishikesh program...

You go to Vrindavan sometimes, but you go alone—this is not visiting a holy place, not association. When you go alone, Srila Sridhar Maharaj said it is eye exercise, but when you go to a holy place with the devotees, you get some real association, sadhu-sanga, then you will get a real benefit.

In Srimad Bhagavatam, Uddhav Maharaj say, "I have no quality to worship the lotus feet of Sri Vraja gopis—even I have no quality to worship the lotus feet of those who always chant, who speak Krishna-katha, who always think about Krishna. The only hope I have is that when they walk down the street, I can, I have some quality to worship their foot dust."

Chant Constantly
Anywhere you can stay, be it forest or a house, it is necessary to chant, only to chant constantly. When you stop chanting, illusory environment can come. Chant constantly!

Samsara-davanala
'I offer my obeisance unto the lotus feet of Sri Guru, who is very expert in the arts performed by the sakhis to fulfil the Forest Couple's Love Play, and is thus very dear to Them.'

Illusory environment means we are covered by an illusory net and we forget everything. Overcoming this illusory environment will depend on the quality of our surrender.
