Clean and Sincere Heart

Question: How can I make my heart a clean place?

Through service. "Abhiman chhadile, suddha habe." How to do service? The answer is there:

অভিমান ছাড়িলে ভাই ছাড়িবে বিষয় ।

বিষয় ছাড়িলে শুদ্ধ হবে তোমার আশয় ॥

abhimana chhadile bhai chhadibe visaya
visaya chhadile suddha habe tomara asaya

Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 10.11

"If you leave your ego, you can leave the world; if you can leave the world, then you can clean your heart." The answer is easy—if you leave your pride, or ego, then you will leave the world (the world means 'visaya', material things); if you leave the world, your heart will be clean. "Visaya chhadile suddha habe hrdaya." Jagadananda Pandit asked Mahaprabhu, and Mahaprabhu gave this answer.

One time also a disciple of Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur said, "Prabhu, I cannot do bhajan—nothing happens." 'Bhajan' means seva. In other words, he said, "I cannot do any seva, or bhajan."

"Are you telling the truth?" asked Prabhupad.

"Yes."

"Then something is happening to you."

Sometimes also somebody pretends and deceitfully says, "Oh, nothing happens, I cannot do any service," but at the same time they have a full ego in their heart. They think, "I have done so many things for the temple!" or, "I took initiation many years ago and have done so much for the temple!" They become very heavy, and when they get on the boat, their boat will sink in the river...

My words are heavy, and some may have a problem with that sometimes, but I must speak the truth: what is necessary for our spiritual life, is necessary.
