Chanting: Any Time His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Question: A devotee is in such a situation that she just gave birth to a baby a month ago and now she does not have any spare time—she cannot even chant the Holy Name, she has absolutely no time to do any spiritual practice. What is your advice to her? Why cannot she do spiritual practice? Spiritual practice is to chant the Holy Name. It is not necessary to chant on her beads all the time, but when she does something, for example, when she carries her baby, she can always chant. What is the problem? If she tries, she can do. If she thinks, "I will not do it," then she will not be able to do it; but if she thinks, "I have to do it," then she can do it and she will get time. Actually, she must understand that we get everything—a baby, a husband, a mother, a father, or a friend—for Krishna. Krishna gives us happiness, and Krishna can take it away and give us unhappiness also, why do we forget Krishna then? Why cannot we practise Krishna consciousness? If we understand this, we will keep time for Him. You can chant at all times, whether you are cooking, or doing anything else. It is not necessary to always chant on the beads, you can chant with your mouth: your mouth has two lips, just open your lips, say, "Hare Krishna", and "Hare Krishna", "Hari" will come out of your mouth. What is the problem?! She can talk, she can do everything, why cannot she chant only one Name: "Hare Krishna"? If somebody neglectfully chants the Holy Name, like nama-abhas, they will get liberation. Why would she not take the Name then? It is not necessary to do japa for a hundred years or fifty years; if you just neglectfully chant "Hari bol", you will get liberation—you will get happiness and you will go to your real path. Why would she not chant the Holy Name? Chant the Holy Name at all times! Does she understand now?...
