(8) Demolish Deceitful Devotion

Never take shelter in any aul, baul, kartabhaja, nera, darvesh, sakhibheki or jata-gosani. Do you know what they do? One time I met some vairagi clad in red clothes and asked him, 'Who is this girl travelling with you?' He said, 'She is my bag-carrier vaishnavi.' I said, 'You gave her initiation, did you not? That means that she has become your daughter, but you stay with her at night, do you not?' He became quiet. I challenged him, 'You gave her initiation, so she is like a daughter to you, how can you live with her at night?! You walk around wearing tilaks and beads, but you come to a shop to have a smoke! What is this?!' Just seeing such people pierces you with a thorn. You will never get any benefit from them. They spread inauspiciousness in this world.

I am not afraid to say these things. I know that if Srila Prabhupad were to hear this today, he would be pleased.

After I took sannyas in 1999, I went to Jalpaiguri for a preaching programme. They told me, 'Maharaj, all these who are seated here are disciples of Satsang Mission.' I know what rotten people they are. They say, 'You can eat fish and meat on Fridays.' They give ritvik and say, 'You are my brother now.' They call each other 'brothers'. They always wear pants and smoke and when they have a programme, they wear a dhoti and say, 'I am your ritvik [medium], I will give you initiation. Vande Purusottam.' And they consider man God. They are mayavadi (impersonalists) and nirvisesvadi, sunyavadi (voidists). Associating with them can bring you nothing but inauspiciousness. Srila Prabhupad said that even sahajiyas are better than them because those people do not believe in God (they do not believe that God has any form), but with sahajiyas the only problem is that they do not understand the difference between mundane lust and Sri Sri Radha-Krishna's transcendental love. They mix with women and call it love. They think that Radha-Krishna were lovers, so they can do that, too. They practise such 'love' and end up pregnant. This is their problem.

ব্রহ্মাণ্ড ভ্রমিতে কোন ভাগ্যবান্ জীব ।
গুরু-কৃষ্ণ-প্রসাদে পায় ভক্তিলতা-বীজ ॥

brahmanda bhramite kona bhagyavan jiva
guru-krsna-prasade paya bhakti-lata-bija

‘Having travelled throughout the universe, some fortunate souls receive the seed of the devotional creeper by the mercy of Sri Guru, who is non-different from Krishna.’

You plant the seed, and if you water it, it will sprout, but if you pour too much water, the seed will rot and die. So, sahajiyas are those who pour too much water and destroy their devotion. They listen to Krishna-lila too much. In the end, they dress as Krishna and Radharani and start singing lila-kirtans. I saw some people dressed as Krishna and Radharani in Ekachakra. I told them, 'You are dressed as Krishna, you have a flute in your hand, but Krishna lifted Govardhan with the little finger of His hand – can you do that? You cannot even list one stone from Govardhan! You play the flute pretending to be Krishna, but can you call a single cow with your flute?' They dress as Krishna and Radharani and think that they can do anything they want. Srila Prabhupad prohibited such things.

Srila Prabhupad strictly prohibited any mixing of men and women. We must not associate with those who are not devoted to Lord Krishna and those who mix with women. Such association must be given up; it can never bring anything good. They are not devotees, they are not Vaishnavs – if you associate with such people and if you take in any of their ideas, all your devotion will be destroyed at the root! Our eternal stance is this:

শুদ্ধ ভকত- চরণ-রেণু,
ভজন-অনুকূল ।
ভকত-সেবা, পরম সিদ্ধি,
প্রমলতিকার মূল ॥

suddha-bhakata-charana-renu,
bhajana-anukula
bhakata-seva, parama-siddhi,
prema-latikara mula

‘Pure devotees’ foot dust is favourable to devotion. Serving devotees is the supreme fulfilment and the root of the creeper of divine love.’

Always remember this. We must worship pure devotees’ foot dust. All these things that are going in this world in the name of devotion are non-devotion, hypocritical, deceitful, false devotion. We must put an end to this! You must come to the path of pure devotion.
