কয় বার এলি কয় বার গেলি
তবু তত্ত্ব না শিখিলি ।
নিজের মাথা নিজে খাইলি
এ দোষ দিবি কারে ভাই ?

kaya bara eli kaya bara geli
tabu tattva na sikhili
nijer matha nije khaili
e dosa dibe kare bhai?

‘Coming and going, coming and going, you never learnt anything! You have been eating your own brain – who will you blame for this, brother?’

How many times have we come to this world? How many times have we had to leave it? We have got these human births having crossed 8,400,000 species.

ভারত-ভূমিতে হৈল মনুষ্য-জন্ম যার ।
জন্ম সার্থক করি' কর পর-উপকার ॥

bharata-bhumite haila manusya janma yara
janma sarthaka kari’ kara para-upakara

‘One who has taken birth as a human being in the land of India should take advantage of this birth by bringing benefit to others.’

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.9.41)

Bringing benefit to others means bringing genuine benefit – giving that by getting which one will have nothing to aspire for.

জীবে দয়া নামে রুচি বৈষ্ণব সেবা ।
ইহা বহি সনাতন নাহি আর ধর্ম্ম ॥

jive daya name ruchi vaisnava seva
iha bahi sanatana nahi ara dharma

‘Be merciful to the souls, chant the Holy Name happily and serve Vaishnavs. Sanatan, except for this, there is no other religion.’

We must be kind to other souls – we must bring to this path the souls that have turned away from Lord Krishna. We must develop taste for chanting the Holy Name. And we must serve Vaishnavs, Lord Siva in particular. Srila Prabhupad said, 'You come to a temple to have the darshan of the Deity, or the Lord. If you think, "I will see the Lord, I will come and see Jagannath," you will not be able to see the Lord – you will see only an idol made of wood or stone. And if you think, "The Lord is to be served, and we are His servants, so I am coming to serve Him," then the Lord will manifest Himself before you.' Do you understand what this means? The Lord is to be served, and we are servants. 'He is the Lord, and I am His servant, so I am coming to serve Him' – if we come to the temple thinking in this way, then He Himself will come to you in His Deity form.

If you think, 'I know gurudev, I can understand him!' – it is not the truth, and you will not get gurudev like that. But if you think, 'I want to serve gurudev,' then gurudev will manifest himself in front of you. It is necessary to have such a service mood. Always live in service mood.

‘Krsna-bahirmukha jivera nahi Krsna-smrti-jnana (কৃষ্ণবহির্ম্মুখ জীবের নাহি কৃষ্ণস্মৃতি-জ্ঞান). The souls who are averse to Krishna have no knowledge or remembrance of Krishna’ (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.20.123).

কৃষ্ণ ভুলি’ সেই জীব অনাদি-বহির্ম্মুখ ।
অতএব মায়া তারে দেয় সংসারাদি-দুঃখ ॥

krsna bhuli’ sei jiva—anadi bahirmukha
ataeva maya tare deya samsaradi-duhkha

‘Forgetting Krishna, the soul turned towards the external illusory world in primeval times. As the result, illusion (Maya) gives such a soul various material miseries.’

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.20.117)

Do you know why we are suffering so much in this material life? Because we forgot the Lord. We forgot that we are eternal servants of the Lord. We pose ourselves as masters and owners. None of us are masters. There is only one Master, only one Manager, and He controls and manages everything. We must rely on Him and have faith that He will manage everything. Rain falls by His will, the soil dries by His will, vegetables grow by His will, the light is there by His will, the sun produces sun rays and heat by His will. If it were not for His will, neither the sun nor the moon would not be able to produce any light. It is by His will that Indradev sends rains – if it were not for Him, Indra would not be able to do anything. Nothing can happen without His will. But we forget Him and live as masters. We commit vaishnav-aparadh...
