(4/9) Madan-Mohan's Miracle (Part Two)

Soon after that, a big barge came to Vrindavan and got stuck in the sand on the bank of the Yamuna. Many people came to move the boat, but no matter how much they tried to shift it, the boat did not move. At night, Madan appeared to the merchant (the owner of the barge) in a dream and said, 'It happened by My wish. There is a sadhu called Sanatan Goswami staying at Dvadasatila. Bring him here – if he touches your barge, then it will move.' No problem. The merchant woke up and went to Dvadasatila to look for Sanatan Goswami.

'Prabhu, please come with me,' the merchant said to Sanatan Goswami. 'I am at your mercy.'

'Where must I go? What has happened?'

'My barge is stuck on the bank of the Yamuna.'

'Oh, yes, I have heard about it. Many people have tried to move it, but they could not. What can I do? I am an old man, I do not have any strength to pull your barge.'

'Please just come. You only need to touch the barge.'

'Well, if it is of any use to you, I will come.'

Sanatan Goswami came to the bank of the Yamuna and as soon as he touched the barge, the barge slowly started moving. The merchant thought, 'My barge is carrying many valuable things, and this sadhu has helped me out so much. Let me build a house for him!' Then, he told Sanatan Goswami, 'I want to build you a house!'

'No, no,' Santan Goswami quickly replied. 'I do not need any house. I stay under a tree, and I am happy to stay there.'

'Oh, all right... What if I make a house not for you but for Madan?'

'If you want to make a house for Him, you can do that.'

After that, the merchant built a great temple for Madan-mohan. You can still see that temple atop a hill in Vrindavan. Like many other temples in Vrindavan, it was broken on the order of Aurangzeb... You can see from this pastime how Lord accepts service. When His Vrindavan temple was broken, a Jaipur king took him to Jaipur. That king had only one child, a daughter, and that girl served Madan-mohan.

When it was time for the girl to get married, her father gave her many kilogrammes of gold and other riches, but the girl cried, 'Father, you have given me everything, but you have not given me the most important thing. I have been serving Madan, but now that I am going to my in-laws' house, how will I live without my Madan?' The king said, 'All right, let me see what I can do about it.' Madan became their house Deity (the Deity that is worshipped by the family generation after generation), so they did not want to give Him away. The kind and his wife, the queen, sat and thought what to do, 'How can we explain it to our daughter? She is crying so much for Madan...' Then, then decided to have another Deity made that looked just like Madan (Jaipur is famous for Deity making – most Deities are made there) and send it to the house of their daughter's in-laws. As soon as the girl saw the Deity, she understood that it was not the original Deity.

'You have cheated me. This is not my Madan-mohan,' she said.

'How did you know?!' her parents asked, quite surprised.

'I know it.'

Then, the original Deity was brought. They blindfolded the girl and told her to choose which Madan she would take. (Just see this! The Lord Himself is crying, waiting to take our service!) Suddenly, Madan grabbed the girl's hand and said, 'I have not eaten your cooking for a long time, I have not got service from your hands for a long time. I am very unhappy.' Then, the girl said, 'Mother, Father, look, look! Can you see how Madan has caught my hand?'

If you go to Karauli, you can see that Deity of Madan-mohan is still there. This is the story of how Madan-mohan came there.
