(4) Obnoxious Oblivion
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
If you read Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, you will find this verse there:
কাম লাগি’ কৃষ্ণ ভজে, পায় কৃষ্ণ-রসে ।
kama lagi' krsne bhaje, paya krsna-rase 'If somebody worships Krishna out of some material desire, they get the nectarean taste of Lord Krishna and then, leaving all material desires, they start hankering after becoming a servant.' (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.22.41) The worship of Lord Krishna's devotees is the highest. May not a single day pass in our lives without service to Vaishnavs. Even if one is a Vaishnav, a sannyasi or a brahmachari, if they cannot serve Vaishnavs, there is no value in their external designations. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is the Lord Himself. There are avatars and there is an avatari. There is Rama avatar, Kurma avatar, Varaha avatar, Nrisingha avatar, and so on – they are all incarnations of the Lord. But Gauranga Mahaprabhu and Krishna are avatari, the Original Personality of Godhead; it means that He creates all the incarnations (avatars).
ঈশ্বরঃ পরমঃ কৃষ্ণঃ সচ্চিদানন্দবিগ্রহঃ ।
isvarah paramah krsnah sach-chid-ananda-vigrahah ‘Krishna, who is known as Govinda, is the supreme controller. He has an eternal, blissful, spiritual body. He is the origin of all. He has no origin, for He is the prime cause of all causes.’ (Sri Brahma-samhita, 5.1) 'Anadi' is the ultimate origin, or end – there is nothing beyond that. But here Lord Brahma says that Lord Krishna is 'anadir adi' – He is the origin of the ultimate origin. His Name is Govinda, Krishna, Yadav, Madhav, Mukunda or any of the other Names He has. He is the supreme controller in this world, so everything happens by His will. By His will, the wind blows; by His will, the sun gives heat; by His will, fire burns – everything happens by His will, and nothing can ever happen without His will. We must always think about this cause of all causes, about this origin of all origin. We must live always thinking about God – always, at every moment. Always keep yourselves busy with the Lord service, with thoughts about the Lord.
আত্মেন্দ্রিয়প্রীতি-বাঞ্ছা—তারে বলি ‘কাম’ ।
atmendriya-priti-vancha—tare bali ‘kama’ ‘The desire to gratify one’s own senses is kama (lust), but the desire to please the senses of Lord Krishna is prema (divine love).’ (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.4.165) Eating, sleeping, fearing and enjoying – we do these things all our lives, but we are not enjoyers. Krishna is the only enjoyer. We cannot enjoy anything. Everything belongs to Krishna, so He is the only enjoyer of everything. We are overcome with pride, that is why we enjoy Krishna's things. Do you think you could live without water, air, wind, soil? Not a single living entity can live without all these things. Not only do we live enjoying Krishna's things, but we live without any consciousness of Him – we do not know Him, we do not see Him, we do not think about Him. Is that so or not? We take His things, become attached to them, spend our all energy on them, and we forget who everything belongs to – we live serving Maya, the illusory environment. What does Maya do? Getting her power from Krishna, she turns us into her servants and makes us follow her wicked orders...
