Continuing our Sri Puri Dham parikrama, by the mercy of our Sri Gurupadpadma, we have now come to a place called Sri Chatak Parvat. Whenever Srila Bhakisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupad, Sri Gurupadpadma of our Param Guru Maharaj Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, came to Sri Puri Dham, he would stay here, at Sri Chatak Parvat. This place is described as being nondifferent from Sri Govardhan Hill. Every year when we do Sri Puri Dham parikrama, we come here to offer our obeisances to Srila Prabhupad.

Because Chatak Parvat is situated on an elevation, or a hill, the temple here was partially destroyed during a big storm (Cyclone Fani in 1999). Many places and temples were actually damaged in that storm. Our temple was damaged, too, but we repaired everything soon after the damage happened.

Srila Prabhupad's birthplace is also in Puri. We will go there on the day of Gundicha marjan. It is on the way to the temple of Gundicha Devi, where Jagannath's chariot will come and stay. So, Srila Prabhupad's appearance place is here in Puri, too; and this here is his bhajan-kutir.

It is impossible to describe Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur's glories in a few words. Even if we speak the whole day, the whole night or even the whole life, it is not so easy to describe his divine glories. Our Param Guru Maharaj Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj composed this sloka about Srila Prabhupad:

নিখিল-ভুবন-মায়া-ছিন্নবিচ্ছিন্নকর্ত্রী
বিবুধবহুল-মৃগ্যা-মুক্তি-মোহান্ত-দাত্রী ।
শিথিলিত-বিধি-রাগারাধ্য-রাধেশ-ধানী
বিলসতু হৃদি নিত্যং ভক্তিসিদ্ধান্ত-বাণী ॥

nikhila-bhuvana-maya-chhinnavichchhinna-kartri
vibudhabahula-mrgya-mukti-mohanta-datri
sithilita-vidhi-raga-radhya-radhesa-dhani
vilasatu hrdi nityam bhakti-siddhanta-vani

‘He slashed to shreds the illusion of the whole material universe, putting a stop to scholarly speculations and conceptions of liberation; he eased the strict rules and regulations, bestowing the conception of natural loving worship of the Divine Couple – may the devotional teachings of this Sri Bhaktisiddhanta play eternally in our hearts.’

Srila Prabhupad declared a totalitarian war agains maya all over the world. Alongside that, he also relaxed some of the strict rules and regulations. Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj also wrote about Srila Prabhupad:

জয়রে জয়রে জয় গৌর-সরস্বতী ।
ভকতিবিনোদান্বয় করুণা মুরতি ॥

jayare jayare jaya gaura-sarasvati
bhakativinodanvaya karuna murati

‘Glory, glory to Sri Gaura–Saraswati, the holy embodiment of mercy in the line of Sri Bhaktivinod Thakur.’

প্রকাশিলে গৌরসেবা ভূবন মঙ্গল ।
ভখতিসিদ্ধান্ত শুদ্ধ প্রজ্ঞান উজ্জ্বল ॥

prakasile gaura-seva bhuvana mangala
bhakati-siddhanta suddha prajnana ujjvala

‘Revealing service to Sri Gaura, which spreads auspiciousness in this world, you presented devotional teachings (bhakti-siddhanta) that radiate self-effulgent pure transcendental knowledge.’

Srila Prabhupad stayed in this world during sixty-four years, and during these sixty-four years he established sixty-four temples. As you all know, his samadhi-mandir is at Sri Chaitanya Math in Mayapur. And here, Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhav Goswami Maharaj established a temple at his birthplace, in Sri Narayan Chhata. But when Srila Prahbupad himself came to Puri, he always stayed here, at Chatak Parvat. That is why we always come here to pay our obeisances to him and to pray, 'Please forgive our offences, please forgive our offence. Srila Prabhupad, O Vaishnav Thakur! Please give us some mercy – please forgive our offence.'
