(11/11) Stay Chaste
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Mahaprabhu performed many pastimes in Puri. He also taught the great pandit Vallabha Bhatta Goswami. Vallabha Bhatta Goswami recited great Sanskrit slokas, and asked Mahaprabhu, 'Have You even studied Srimad Bhagavatam?' 'I do not know Bhagavatam, neither do I have any desire to know it,' Mahaprabhu replied. 'No, You must study it! I can read it to You.' 'No, I do not want to hear Bhagavatam. I do not want to hear all this.' 'Then listen to the explanation of the Holy Name,' Vallabha Bhatta Goswami continued insisting on teaching Mahaprabhu. 'What is there to explain? Krishna and His Name are nondifferent. I do not want to know anything beyond this. I do not want to hear any explanations of the meaning of the Holy Name.' 'But You do not understand – You have heard only of Sridhar Swami's commentary to Srimad Bhagavatam, but my explanation is better than his!' 'What? You do not respect Sridhar Swami? You do not accept Swami?? If you have no regard for your swami [husband], then you are a prostitute!' Mahaprabhu replied. Hearing this, Vallabha Bhatta Goswami was stunned and speechless. In the end, Mahaprabhu bestowed His mercy on him and Vallabha Bhatta Goswami stopped worshipping Bala-Gopal – instead, he started worshipping Radha-Krishna. Much has been said today. I would like finish for today. Those of you who are going to take initiation tomorrow (who agree to live following all the rules and regulations properly) should come to the temple at 6:30 in the morning. Tomorrow is a fasting day – today is Gundicha marjan, so take prasadam well in the evening. If you like it, there is also prasad from the lunch time, you can take it too. Did you not like Ananta Vasudev's prasad? You will get it today, too. They did not cook a lot today – they only cooked for the Deities' offering, and we are bringing Lord Jagannath's prasad for everybody. Today you should eat from leaves – do not bring your plates (if you bring them, put the leaves on top of them). Sit on the ground, without any asan, and take prasad from banana leaves. Take prasad in this way today. This is the rule – this is how you take Lord Jagannath's prasad. Those who are going to take initiation tomorrow must be explained all the rules and regulations. Gambling (bets, cards, dice), intoxication (alcohol, drugs, paan, cigarettes, tea), illegal sex (mixing with men or women) and slaughter (killing jiva souls – never eat any fish, meat, onion, garlic, lentils) are prohibited. If you can follow all these things, then you can take initiation. Also, you should come to the temple from time to time for festivals, fast on ekadasis. There will be no breakfast tomorrow – if you have small children with you here, they can take remainders from tonight. It will be good if you can fast tomorrow. Everybody will quickly take prasad by twelve o'clock, at noon, and then we will go to the chariot procession. Please remember that you must listen to what I tell you – do not jump under the chariots' wheels to commit suicide! Do not go to pull the rope! There are a lot of policemen and guards around, so do not go there. If you want to touch the rope, you can always do it at the end of the procession, when the chariots arrive. What is the problem? If you go into the crowd to get to the rope, your feet can get under the chariot wheel. The crowd will be very big tomorrow, so be very careful. We will sometimes sit and chant kirtan, sometimes walk. We will see the chariots coming and stay mostly somewhere in the middle. And there will be a lot of pushing. Be very careful. Keep the badges with the address of our temple – after the procession come back to the temple. You will not get any transport tomorrow, so you will have to walk back.
Jay Srila Guru Maharaj ki jay. What time is it now? Let us chant some kirtan now, and then we will finish. [His Divine Grace then sings evening kirtans.]
