Purify Yourself

I was reading yesterday that many different gurus have so many disciples—thousands of thousands of disciples, but among all those disciples not everybody is a guru. There are so many disciples, so many gurus in this world. We must be very careful about this.

We must practise very nicely, we must continue our practising life carefully. When you stay with Gurudev, you should not only stay with your body and mind—you must stay with Gurudev with your heart and soul. We must give proper respect to Gurudev. This is the main thing for us. If we do not give respect to our Guru from our heart, it means we have a big problem. We must give proper respect to the Guru. If we do not give proper respect to the Guru, then what is the value of our devotion? What for have we joined devotional activities? What for have we joined Krishna consciousness life then? The main thing is proper respect. Also, it is necessary to have chastity to your Gurudev. Chastity is the main thing too.

Now is niyom-seva month, kartik-vrata month. We can use this time to try to teach ourselves. We should not teach others—we must teach ourselves. This is the main thing. First we must purify ourselves. We should not try to purify others—first we must purify ourselves through sravanam and kirtanam (hearing and chanting, or practising). We have not come here for wealth, money, gold, property, etc.
