(2/2) Srimad Bhagavad-gita

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Kuruksetra parikrama,
3 November 2019, part 2
Translated from Bengali

Supreme Lord Krishna is the giver of our main teachings that are presented in Srimad Bhagavad-gita. The place where we have come is Srimad Bhagavad-gita's place of origin. Bhagavan Sri Krishna spoke Srimad Bhagavad-gita to Arjuna here. Apart from Arjuna, a great sage Sanjay also heard it and related it to Dhritarastra.

Somebody may have done many bad things in the past, but if they surrender to the Lord, the Lord says, 'I will accept and personally utilise them in My service.'

When Arjuna realised that he was in trouble, Lord Sri Krishna gave a solution to his problem: we have all heard the instruction and message of Srimad Bhagavad-gita. Living in this world, we always struggle with many kinds of temporary problems: ignorance (avidya), false identification (asmita), miseries caused by our own minds and bodies (adhibhautik-jvala), miseries caused by the nature and gods (adhidaivik-jvala), and miseries caused by other souls (adhyatmik-jvala). The only way for us to get relief from the agony of this suffering is to surrender to and take shelter in the holy lotus feet of the Lord. This is the solution given in Srimad Bhagavad-gita.

When Pariksit Maharaj got to know that he was going to die in seven days, he left everything. Although he was a great king and had to worry about protecting his subjects and family, he went away and started searching what his true benefit was. The solution came to him through Sukadev Goswami. Pariksit Maharaj listened to Srimad Bhagavatam from him, and all his problems and dilemma were resolved.

Krishna teaches us in Srimad Bhagavad-gita also, 'Whatever is created in this world is created for My enjoyment, not for yours. Because you are overcome with pride and ego, you are trying to enjoy My things. But the only enjoyer is Me, and you are all My servants. You can neither enjoy nor renounce My things – all you can do is live as My servants.' Although Krishna spoke to Arjuna, the entire Srimad Bhagavad-gita is actually there for us because we are very proud and we are the ones who try to enjoy everything. But we are not masters – the only enjoyer is Krishna, and we are only His servants.

Krishna also said, 'If somebody takes anything (or does anything) without thinking about Me, without remembering Me, it means that they are stealing My things. Those who eat anything without offering it first to Me are thieves, and all they incur as the result is sin.'

পত্রং পুষ্পং ফলং তোয়ং যো মে ভক্ত্যা প্রযচ্ছতি ।
তদহং ভক্ত্যুপহৃতমশ্নামি প্রযতাত্মনঃ ॥

patram puspam phalam toyam, yo me bhaktya prayachchhati
tad aham bhakty-upahrtam, asnami prayatatmanah

'If one offers Me with devotion a leaf, flower, fruit or water, I affectionately accept that offering of the clean hearted devotee.'

(Srimad Bhagavad-gita, 9.26)

'Even if My devotee is very poor and cannot give Me anything – if they have no capacity – if they offer Me just a drop of Ganges water and serve Me, think about Me, worship Me, I become indebted to them and I cannot repay My debt to them.'

I will not speak long here. I just want to say one last thing. The last word of Srimad Bhagavad-gita is this:

সর্ব্বধর্ম্মান্ পরিত্যজ্য মামেকং শরণং ব্রজ ।
অহং ত্বাং সর্ব্বপাপেভ্যো মোক্ষয়িষ্যামি মা শুচঃ ॥

sarva-dharman parityajya, mam ekam saranam vraja
aham tvam sarva-papebhyo, moksayisyami ma suchah

‘Give up all kinds of religion and surrender to Me alone. I will liberate you from all sins, do not despair.’

(Srimad Bhagavad-gita, 18.66)

'Give up all religions.' Following many kinds of religions, people act as fathers, mothers, daughters, men, women, husbands, wives, Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and so on. But, ultimately, Lord Sri Krishna says, 'Leave everything and surrender to Me. I will protect you. You think that if you do not serve your parents as a child, or if you do not serve your husband as a wife, then you will be committing a sin, but worry not – I will save you from all sins. I will remove all your sins.

Jay Srimad Bhagavad-gita ki jay.
Jay Lord Sri Krishna ki jay.
Jay Arjun ki jay.
Gitar avirbhav sthan ki jay.

Disturbance In Service
A short educational story that illustrates that there is no need to be afraid of obstacles. Even opposing elements can be seen as favourable.

When you serve prasadam to devotees, you must be like a mother.
