Question: There are political parties that promote things like abortion, drug use, homosexuality, etc. which are incompatible with Krishna consciousness. Are the devotees who support these parties commit an offence?

Actually, we are not political men. Our 'candidate' is only Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. We do not involve ourselves with politics or politicians. Politicians always tell nonsense. You can see the news on television or in newspapers—everything is gossiping; one party gossips about another party, and one party is swearing another party. There is too much gossiping going on. That is why, we do not involve ourselves with politics.

You are asking about abortion, sexual matters, etc. We do not do these things; on the contrary, we always avoid female association. You can easily understand what female association means—it is called stri-sanga, and there are eight types of such association. For example, even if you just look at a girl with lust, with some sexual desires, it is also called stri-sanga. You must see all ladies as your mothers, as your godsisters, spiritual sisters. If you can see everyone in this way, it is very nice, and it is necessary to have such vision.

Scripture say that we must always avoid free mixing. Many of our lady devotees do the cooking, and we do not talk to them privately, secretly, or alone in some place. We do not look at them with lust. We always avoid these four things—dyuta, pana, striya, suna (gambling, intoxicants, free mixing, meat-eating). We always tell everyone, "Avoid illegal sex." Even if a husband and a wife stay at a temple, they will always avoid any sexual contact. You must see your wife as a servant of Krishna and with this view you will serve her. You must see her as a devotee, not as your wife. We are always against illegal sex. You know that. So, our line is to always avoid any illegal sex. If you love some woman and want to get married, you can get married, but do not have any sexual relationship with her before marriage. It is illegal. You must understand and follow it.

Actually, some people think that a certain political party wants to come to serve the country, but politicians always think about themselves. Corruption is everywhere—there may be more corruption in some countries and less corruption in some other countries, but there is corruption in every country. That is why we do not involve ourselves with political party—we do not want any political party movements. That is why I personally do not vote. Somebody asks me from time to time, "Maharaj, will you not go to the election centre to vote?" I reply, "No, Mahaprabhu is not a candidate there, what will I go there for?"
