(4/6) Remembering Nityananda Prabhu's Glory (1)
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
[His Divine Grace chants ‘Nitai-pada-kamala’ and resumes the class.] As you know, there is going to be the appearance day of our Nityananda Prabhu soon (on 25 February). Nityananda Prabhu’s glory is such that if you get His mercy, the result is inconceivable. Mahaprabhu Himself sang Nityananda Prabhu’s glory. After coming to Nabadwip, Nityananda Prabhu mostly stayed at Srivas Pandit’s house. Srivas Pandit’s wife, Malini Devi, was, perhaps, seventy years old at that time, but Nityananda Prabhu called her Mother, and when He called her Mother, milk would flow from her breasts! He drank her milk. How great His glory is! Milk would flow from a seventy-year-old lady’s breasts! One day, Malini Devi was washing the Deities’ dishes when suddenly a crow came and took a puja glass. Malini Devi began to cry. Nityananda Prabhu came and asked her what had happened, and she explained, ‘A crow has taken a glass. If Your Father [Srivas Pandit] comes and gets to know about it, he will scold me.’ Nityananda Prabhu assured her, ‘Mother, do not worry, I will see to it.’ Then, He cried out to the crow, ‘Hey crow! My Mother is crying, give the glass back!’ The crow came back and returned the glass: it obeyed Nityananda Prabhu. The lotus feet of Nitai are cooling like ten million moons – not just one moon, but ten million moons. Just as the sun gives light, the moon also gives light, but when the sun gives light, it feels warm, and when the moon gives light, it feels cool. So, Nitai’s lotus feet are as cooling as ten million moons. It is said in the scriptures about Nityananda Prabhu:
উত্তম, অধম, কিছু না করে বিচার ।
uttama, adhama, kichhu na kare vichara ‘Nityananda Prabhu does not judge who is good and who is bad: He saves anyone who falls before Him.’ (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.5.208) Nityananda Prabhu does not judge whether somebody is high or low – He rescues whoever falls at His feet. Such is His glory! One time, Mahaprabhu and Nityananda Prabhu came to Kalna to visit Gauri Das Pandit. When They finished taking prasad, Mahaprabhu said, ‘Gauri Das, We are taking your leave now.’ ‘Prabhu’, Gauri Das Pandit replied, ‘You have come by Your own wish, but You can leave only by my wish. You have never come to my house before, so I will never let You go now.’ ‘Oh? But We have to go for preaching; We have to go house to house! How can We preach if We only sit at your house?’ ‘I do not know these things, I do not understand these things. I will not let You go!’ Nityananda Prabhu and Mahaprabhu sat on the veranda and started thinking what to do. Suddenly, Mahaprabhu thought of a very clever idea. He called out to Gauri Das Pandit, ‘Gauri Das! Come here! Will you let Us go?’ ‘Never! I will not let You go!’ ‘All right, then, look back, look inside the room,’ Mahaprabhu said. Gauri Das Pandit looked behind and saw Gaura Nitai Deities in the room! They were just like Gaura and Nitai who were sitting at the veranda! Mahaprabhu asked Gauri Das Pandit, ‘So, whom are you going to keep? Will you keep Us or Those in the room?’ Gauri Das Pandit kept the Deities, and Nitai and Gauranga were able to leave his house.
