His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Adhivas of Lord Nityananda Prabhu's Appearance, evening class
Sri Ekachakra Dham, 24 February 2021, part 15
Translated from Bengali

[His Divine Grace chants ‘Amara jivana’.]

amara jivana, sada pape rata,
nahika punyera lesa
parere udvega, diyachhi ye kata,
diyachhi jivere klesa [1]

‘My life is always engrossed in sin. There is not a trace of piety in it. And I have been giving others so much anxiety and pain.’

nija sukha lagi’, pape nahi dari’,
daya-hina svartha-para
para-sukhe duhkhi, sada mithya-bhasi,
para-duhkha sukha-kara [2]

‘I am not afraid to commit sins for my own happiness. I am merciless and selfish. I always lie. I feel unhappy to see others happy, and I feel happy to see others sad.’

asesa kamana, hrdi majhe mora,
krodhi dambha-parayana
mada-matta sada, visaye mohita,
himsa-garba vibhusana [3]

‘My heart is filled with endless desires. Angry and hypocritical, I am always intoxicated, mad and engrossed in the material world. Pride and envy are my ornaments.’

nidralasya hata, sukarye virata,
akarye udyogi ami
pratistha lagiya, sathya-acharana,
lobha-hata sada kami [4]

‘Ruined by laziness and sleep, I am averse to doing anything good and eager to do wrong things. I behave crooked desiring prestige. I am ruined by greed and always want something.’

e hena durjana, sajjana-varjita,
aparadhi nirantara
subha-karya-sunya, sadanartha-manah,
nana-duhkhe jara jara [5]

‘Such a bad person as I is shunned by good souls – I am a constant offender. I do not do anything good – instead, I am always filled with inauspiciousness. I am shattered by all kinds of miseries.’

vardhakye ekhana, upaya-vihina,
ta’te dina akinchana
bhakativinoda, prabhura charane,
kare duhkha nivedana [6]

‘Now I am old and helpless. Having thus become poor and materially destitute, Bhaktivinod humbly submits his sorrow at the holy feet of the Lord.’

(Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

We must always be humble. I have told you before: the more humility you have, the greater Vaishnav you are.

dainya, atma-nivedana, goptrtve varana
‘avasya raksibe krsna’—visvasa palana

[Limbs of surrender] ‘Humility, self-submission, accepting that the Lord is your maintainer, keeping faith that “Krishna will certainly protect.”’

(Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

First, it is necessary to accumulate sukriti from previous lifetimes. There is ajnata-sukriti and jnata-sukriti. Nobody can practise Krishna consciousness without sukriti.

brahmanda bhramite kona bhagyavan jiva
guru-krsna-prasade paya bhakti-lata-bija

‘Having travelled throughout the universe, some fortunate souls receive the seed of the devotional creeper by the mercy of Sri Guru, who is non-different from Krishna.’

mali hana kare sei bija aropana
sravana-kirtana-jale karaye sechana

‘As caring gardeners, they plant this seed and water it with sravan (hearing) and kirtan (chanting, practising).’

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.19.151–152)

Always practise. Everybody must take kirtan books with them. Always join this parikrama of the holy dham.

sri-gauda-mandala-bhumi, yeba jane chintamani,
tara haya vraja-bhume vasa

‘Those who always think about Sri Gauda Mandal reside in Vraja.’

(Srila Narottam Das Thakur)

Come and stay in Sri Gaura-mandal! Gauda-mandal is not only Mayapur or Nabadwip. ‘Those who always think about Sri Nabadwip Dham reside in Sri Vrindavan.’ Those who understand what Nabadwip Dham is (who have deep, internal faith) live in the land of Vraja. There is no other way to rescue yourselves from the circumambulation of this material world except for chanting the Holy Name in the association of sadhus.

sadhu-sange krsna-nama—ei matra chai
samsara jinite ara kona vastu nai

‘I desire only to chant the Name of Krishna in the association of sadhus. There is no other way to conquer this material world.’

(Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 6.13, Sri Jagadananda Pandit)

You can become rescued from this parikrama of the material world if you do the parikrama of the holy dham in good association of sadhus.

Giving Respect: What to Do and What Not to Do
'This is an example for us how we must respect senior Vaishnavs. You can also find some lessons and teachings in Chaitanya-charitamrita, you can see what Mahaprabhu's conception is. When some devotees dishonoured others, Mahaprabhu chastised them.'

Because of our ego we think we have done so many things and we are doing
so many things—that is why we become tired and hopeless.
