I have received and read your letter. You are a very fortunate soul – you want to take initiation. I am very happy to see you, and I apologise for coming late. I know you have been waiting for your initiation…

In this Age of Kali, the only way to come to your real home, to your own home, is by chanting the Holy Name. The Holy Name comes to this foreign abode from above (from Goloka Vrindavan) through a guru-parampara (disciplic succession). It was first transmitted from Krishna to Brahma, then from Brahma to Narad, from Narad to Vyasadev, from Vyasadev to Madhvacharya, and so on. Eventually, this Holy Name was transmitted from Madhavendra Puri to Ishwar Puri, and from Ishwar Puri to Mahaprabhu. Mahaprabhu Himself also took initiation from Ishwar Puri to teach us; otherwise, why will we take initiation? Whatever you do in this world, it is always necessary to first receive initiation. It is like this in any sphere. First you must accept a guru, who is asraya-vigraha (worshippable embodiment of shelter), because the guru is the closest personality to the Lord. Even Krishna Himself told Uddhav Maharaj, ‘Acharyam mam vijaniyan. Know the spiritual master to be non-different from Me.’ Also, if you send an ‘email’ to the Lord, you will not get an answer, but if you send an ‘email’ to your guru, you will get an answer from him.

So, you are a very fortunate soul. I know that you have already received the beads, so now I am going to give you initiation.

As I said before, this Harinam came to our Gurudev through a guru-parampara. It came through Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, and then our Gurudev Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj. In his lifetime, Gurudev told me, ‘If somebody is a perfect soul – if somebody can practise properly and is eager to take initiation – you can give initiation to them.’

The biggest bead on the beads is called sumeru. Hold it and say:

sri-krsna-chaitanya prabhu nityananda
sri-advaita gadadhara srivasadi gaura-bhakta-vrnda

This is the Pancha-tattva’s Name. Ask Them for mercy. Say, ‘I am a fallen soul, I do not have any quality or qualification, please give me some mercy so that I can chant the Holy Name.’ Then, start chanting from the big beads. You can see that there are bigger beads on one side. Start from the big beads. I will show you now how you will do it. You should only listen now, do not repeat after me.

Chant this maha-mantra on the first bead, then repeat it on the next bead, and so on, one by one:

hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare
hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare
hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare

Chant in this way, bead by bead, from the big beads to the small beads; then, without crossing the sumeru bead, turn the beads and continue chanting from the small beads to the big beads, then again from the big beads to the small beads, and again from the small beads to the big beads, and so on. Chant sixteen rounds or more in this way every day. If you are busy with service any day, you can chant at least four rounds. Four rounds must be chanted every day. Chant the Holy Name, and Krishna will reveal Himself in your heart, you will be successful in your spiritual life.

There is also a book about the ten offences of the Holy Name. You must read the entire book, especially the ten offences. You must read what these offences are and avoid them. If you chant this Holy Name without offence, you will get the result quickly. You will get the result quickly.

Your name will be Aparajita Devi Dasi.

Do you have any questions? Actually, I know what you are going to ask: What is the meaning of ‘Aparajita’? ‘Aparajita’ means the one who is never defeated. We are always defeated by maya, but we will not surrender to maya. That is the meaning of the word aparajita.
