Learn from Mahajanas

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Ekachakra Dham

Sometimes we cannot do proper preaching—so many obstacles come in our spiritual life, so many things come at that time, but we must tolerate everything. This is the main thing.

How much did Sriman Nityananda Prabhu tolerate the situation? How much did Srila Prabhupad and all Guru-varga tolerate the situation? We must learn from them. We must get proper education, proper achievement, follow the proper path of their teachings because we have not come to this world to preach for ourselves. We will not say how we came to the temple, how we joined the temple, it is not necessary for us to say it—by the mercy of Gurudev, by the mercy of Nityananda Prabhu we have surrendered to Gurudev, surrendered to Nityananda Prabhu, surrendered to Srila Prabhupad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur, and we can continue our spiritual life in this way and serve until our death, until we leave our body.

We must try to do something for our Gurudev's Mission, we must try and try. We will not be always successful, but we must always keep trying and we must always try to harmonise everything. We will try to harmonise with the situation, harmonise with circumstances. We must be careful: we must teach Guru Maharaj's and Gurudev's conception all over the world—anyhow, by hook or by crook, we must preach their teachings.

I know how much Gurudev tolerated, now I can understand it, and I can understand now that it is very difficult to be an acharya, to be the Guru of this Mission. It is very difficult. Before I could not understand it because I was always like a child—I did service but at that time I always thought Gurudev was always above my head, he was there, and I did not worry about anything, did not worry about any problems. Before I would do service randomly, but if I want to do something now, so much trouble, so many problems and so much opposition comes in our spiritual life and service... But still, I am getting inspiration from my Gurudev, from all my senior godbrothers and godsisters to protect Srila Gurudev's Mission and Srila Guru Maharaj's Mission.

When I read about mahajanas (life history of many highly qualified gurus), I see how their life went and how difficult it was in so many ways. We can learn from them—we can learn to be humble, to be tolerant and give honour to others. We must remember these teachings step by step. This is the main teaching of Srila Gurudev and Sriman Mahaprabhu. Sriman Mahaprabhu gave it to all jiva souls, to all of us. And I have also taken some advice from there:

Gurudev always says if you love people, everybody will love you, if you love devotees, everybody will love you. That is the main thing. I am getting this kind of power from Gurudev. To be able to follow this properly is our main necessity, our duty. This is a Vaishnav's duty. Gurudev says that before you become a Vaishnav, you must first be a good man—first you must be a good man, then you can be a Vaishnav.

You must learn from Sriman Nityananda Prabhu. You must remember the real example of Nityananda Prabhu, how He excused, pardoned, forgave offences of Jagai and Madhai. He rescued them. Even Mahaprabhu could not tolerate what they had done, but Nityananda Prabhu cried for Madhai and begged Sriman Mahaprabhu to forgive him. You must understand this lesson.

If somebody says something bad to you, you cannot tolerate it even a moment, but you can see how much offence Madhai had made to Nityananda Prabhu—blood was coming from Nityananda Prabhu's head! Mahaprabhu was very angry, but Nityananda Prabhu cried for Madhai. At first, Nityananda Prabhu was trying to rescue Madhai, and Mahaprabhu was upset, but still Nityananda Prabhu begged Mahaprabhu, "Prabhu, please, I must rescue Madhai. I am begging You. What am I begging? I am begging You for Madhai. I want to rescue him from this situation. He was not born with such qualities—he was born as a good little boy, but after some bad association he became pasanda, cruel, became a drunkard."

Many people make some offence, many people do so many things, but what is our duty? Our duty will be to rescue them from such bad situation. Our duty is to engage them in service, to give them some opportunity. That is the main thing. We must give them some opportunity. You must not kick them out for what they are, you must think about Nityananda Prabhu, think how much He tolerates, how He rescued Madhai. We must have such vision.

Many people will do so many bad things, will say so many bad things—you cannot stop their mouths, but our duty is not to listen to so many bad things. Our duty is to rescue them, our duty is to pardon their offences. This is the mahajan's duty, this is the Vaishnav's duty.

We must have such vision, we must compromise and manage the situation in this way. These are very important things for our spiritual life, it is a very good lesson for our spiritual life.

'You do Vaishnav seva and become proud, 'I am spending money', 'I am doing this', 'I am doing that'—this kind of mentality can come, but our mood should be, 'I am not doing anything', 'I cannot do anything.''
