Sarveswar and Nirgun Krishna

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
18 October 2018, Dum Dum Park, part 3

"Amara jivana sada pape rata nahika punyera lesa": our lives are always full of sin. "Parere udveg": we give so much anxiety to others. This was expressed for us by Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur. How perfectly he expressed it! We also sing, "Sarvasva tomara, charane sampiya, parechhi tomara ghare"—we surrender and come to You, Prabhu; we do not know anything, we have no quality or qualification, we can only depend upon You. You are sarvesvar (master of everything), You know everything. We must understand the meaning of these songs. Krishna is nirgun (beyond the three material gunas of goodness, passion, and ignorance).

I remember I was reading in one of the books that after the Kuruksetra war one rishi named Utanka told Krishna, "Krishna, look at this—the widows are crying, they have lost their husbands and sons, children are crying because they have lost their fathers. Everyone is crying and it is all because of Your war! You are responsible for all this! I am giving You curse!" Krishna stopped him and said, "You are a brahman rishi, you have acquired so many things through your pious activities. I am nirgun. You can curse Me, but you will only lose all the result of your pious activities, it will do nothing to Me." Then, you must believe that He is all in all, that He is doing everything.

ঈশ্বরঃ পরমঃ কৃষ্ণঃ সচ্চিদানন্দবিগ্রহঃ ।
অনাদিরাদির্গোবিন্দঃ সর্ব্বকারণকারণম্ ॥

isvarah paramah krsnah sach-chid-ananda-vigrahah
anadir adir govindah sarva-karana-karanam

"Krishna, who is known as Govinda, is the supreme controller. He has an eternal, blissful, spiritual body. He is the origin of all. He has no other origin, for He is the prime cause of all causes."

(Sri Brahma-samhita, 5.1)

He is the cause of all causes. He is doing everything, and we are only instruments, we cannot do anything. We should surrender to Him and practise properly: sadhu-sanga, nama-sankirtana, Bhagavata-sravana, mathura-vas. Mathura-vas does not mean you must stay in Mathura. Mathura is Krishna-katha. We will not go to the place where there is gramya-katha, nonsense talks, we will not listen to this, we will ignore it, but we will go where there is sadhu-sanga, good things—we will speak and listen to Krishna-katha, Hari-katha, Bhagavat-katha.

If you use your tongue to talk so many nonsense things, you will lose the energy to talk Krishna-katha. If you walk here and there, you will lose the energy to do even Tulasi parikrama—you will not be able to walk the dham parikrama because you have been walking in so many nonsense places (places that are not a dham, not a holy place). We have indirya, senses—chaksu, karna, nasika, jihva, tvak (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin)—and we must use all these senses for the service to the Lord. You must use all your energy for the service to the Lord. This is the main thing you must understand.

জড়বিদ্যা যয়, মায়ার বৈভব,
তোমার ভজনে বাধা ।
মোহ জনমিয়া অনিত্য সংসারে,
জীবকে করিয়ে গাধা ॥

jada-vidya yata, mayara vaibhava,
tomara bhajane badha
moha janamiya, anitya samsare,
jivake karaye gadha

"All mundane learning is an exhibition of maya and an obstacle to Your service. It brings about infatuation for the temporary world and makes an ass of the soul."

(Saranagati, 3.3)

What education do mundane schools, colleges, universities give? What do they teach? It is all jada-vidya (mundane knowledge), avidya (ignorance). Suppose someone becomes a big doctor and says, "Oh, I can do many things!" but ask them, "Can you give relief to the patient if the person has died?" They cannot do that—no doctor can give life to those who have died. Even scientists also say that they can do so many things, they have invented so many things, but they cannot give life to a soul, jivatma. Then we must understand that everything is in Krishna's hands. The sun is giving light, the moon is giving light—He is doing all this. He controls everything that is happening in this world. Krishna orders Brahma and Brahma creates this whole universe—everything is running on Krishna's order, with Krishna's intention, otherwise nothing could run.

We must have faith and believe these things. When we are born, our mothers tell me, "This is your father," and we believe it because only the mother knows who the father is: "This is my father because my mother has said so." In the same way, we must believe properly what the scriptures say.

Jay Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj ki jay!
Jay saparikara Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Gandharva Govinda Sundarjiu ki jay!
Jay Rupanuga-guru-varga ki jay!

Food for Thought
'If you give your mind, your heart to material things, these material things, visaya, will always stay with you. Do not give any food to your mind—if you give food to your mind, it will become strong and can take you away from the service.'

Krsna haite chatur-mukha
'The follower of Srila Gaura Kisor Das Babaji, the great soul Dayita Das (Srila Saraswati Thakur), whose wealth is Sri Krsna-kirtan, fulfilled the desires of the whole world. He is the dearmost of Sri Varsabhanavi and is always engaged in Her service.'
কৃষ্ণ হৈতে চতুর্ম্মুখ

If you think you are doing it, then the burden will come to you, but if you understand
you cannot do anything and the Guru does everything, then what is the problem?
