(6/7) Gauri Das Pandit's Attachment
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Whose else disappearance day is it today? [A devotee hesitates to give an answer.] What? Do you not learn anything? You are only eating and sleeping... You are only filling the toilet pan with stool and eating some more, filling your stomach... [The devotee quickly says, 'Oh, Rupa Goswami.'] I have already told about it. Today is also the disappearance day of Srila Gauri Das Pandit. Where did he stay? [A Bengali devotee says that he stayed in Kalna and served Nitai-Gaura Deities.] Yes, he stayed in Kalna and served Nitai and Gaura. Mundanely speaking, Sri Gauri Das Pandit is actually Sri Nityananda Prabhu's relative because his brother, Suryadas Sarakhel, was Sri Nityananda Prabhu's father-in-law. One day, Sri Nityananda Prabhu and Sriman Mahaprabhu took a boat and came to Sri Gauri Das Pandit's house. In those days the boats were not like the boats you see in Mayapur now – before, the boats were simple and you had to paddle them manually, with an oar. Although Sri Gauri Das Pandit was a householder devotee, he was very much attached to Sri Nityananda Prabhu. So, when Nityananda Prabhu and Mahaprabhu came to his house, he wanted to give Them some prasadam. After They took prasadam, Mahaprabhu said, 'OK, We are leaving now. We need to go to some other place for preaching. We cannot stay in one place only...' 'Prabhu, it was up to You to come here (You came here by Your own wish), but it is up to me when You are to leave – You cannot leave without my permission. I will not allow You to go anywhere. You came here willingly, I did not invite You, but You want to go now? Impossible! You cannot go!' 'What?!' 'I will not listen to You! You cannot leave!' You can see how devotees keep the Lord bound within their lotus hearts. Perplexed, Nityananda Prabhu and Mahaprabhu thought, 'What are We to do now? We are in trouble!' Then, suddenly, They turned into Deities. 'Hey, look behind!' They told Sri Gauri Das Pandit. 'Here, you have Nitai-Gaura in your house!' Sri Gauri Das Pandit turned back and saw Nitai and Gaura. 'So, who are you going to keep? Do you like those who are standing inside your home or those who are standing outside more?' 'Oh, let those who are inside stay then,' Sri Gauri Das Pandit replied, somewhat puzzled. This is how Nitai and Gaura appeared and stayed at his home. Sri Gauri Das Pandit also had a servitor, Chaitanya Das. That is another story. When we go to Kalna, we sometimes go to that house. Now we do not go there so often, but I used to visit that place often when I was constructing our Kalna temple. They still keep the oar of Gaura-Nityananda's boat. One day when I went there, they showed me that oar – they told me to take it in my hands and touch it, but I told them, 'No, I cannot touch it! Put it on my head! Let it break my head and open my brain – it can make my brain good so that my mind and my brain do not go to any other place.' The man did that (he touched that oar to my head)...
