(8/16) Trade Secret in Krishna Consciousness

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Temple inauguration programme, Hooghly
26 January 2020, noon, part 8
Translated from Bengali

Who is Sri Krishna? Remember this: Sri Krishna is priya-srava (He is a good listener). You hear only with your two ears, but the Lord hears with thousands of ears. Not only that, He can also hear with His nose, eyes and any other parts of His body. Can we do that? We cannot. We can only hear with our ears. You think that Lord Krishna eats with His mouth, but He can also eat with any other part of His body. For example, the lotus feet of Lord Vishnu are worshipped in Gaya, and when they offer bhog there, the Lord takes that bhog with His feet. Krishna can eat with His feet, He can hear with His feet, He can hear with His nose, eyes and so on. So, Krishna is called priya-srava because when He hears His own glories, He becomes extremely happy.

Sri Krishna is priya-srava, He loves listening, and He is the best listener, therefore if you hear and speak about His glories, He becomes pleased very quickly. This is the trade secret. This secret is revealed by the personal energy of the Lord. In raga-marga practice, kirtan is the shelter. Cowherd boys in Vrindavan cried in separation from their dearmost Sri Krishna—distraught, they would chant about His glories and pastimes—through their singing, they would call the Lord. Everybody calls out to their beloved ones. In the entire three worlds, there is no one who can be as dear to one as Krishna.

Is there anyone in the entire three worlds who can be as dear to us as Krishna? The problem is that you cry when your grandchildren die, you cry when your husband dies, you cry when your wife dies, you cry when your mother dies, you cry when your father dies, but we do not feel pained because of the separation from the Lord and devotees. Our hearts are hard as stone!

When jiva souls always stay in the good association of pure devotees, this experience of loving closeness can arise in their hearts. How can we understand that the Lord is our dearmost? How can this realisation come to our hearts? If we continuously listen to Hari-katha in saintly association, the Lord, who is our dearmost, will place this realisation in our hearts. Other than this, this feeling can never come to us. It is necessary to hanker for such loving feeling, it is necessary to call and cry out to the Lord.

When you keep holy association, it will awaken loving closeness to the Lord and service propensity in your heart. To love Him means to hear about Him, to speak about Him, to meditate on Him. We must always speak about Him. When you chant on your mala, you must always chant, "Hare Krishna," not "Nati Puti, Nati Puti [Grandson, Granddaughter, Grandson, Granddaughter]." You may not like to hear this, but it is the truth. You must listen about the Lord. It is not necessary to hear about so many rules and principles—it is necessary to have a firm resolve to follow this path. When you establish relationship with Sri Krishna and loving devotion comes, then you will get taste for the discourses about Him. Unless this taste and attachment come, nobody can follow this path. That is why Bhakta-raj Sri Prahlada Maharaj cried, "Such a poor person as myself has no taste for Your sweet katha. How will I get You?" Crying, he would say, "I have not the kind of love that gopis have for Krishna!" Moreover, Vyasadev, who composed Srimad Bhagavatam, also said, "I have not got taste for Bhagavat-katha (discourses about the Lord). I have not been able to understand the Lord." Vyasadev composed Srimad Bhagavatam, but even he thought like that, whereas we hear one–two lectures and say that we have become devotees...

Full Surrender
The six constituents of surrender: accept the favourable, reject the unfavourable, humility, surrender, faith that Krishna will protect and take care of us.

Gurudev is the captain of the ship, and if we can stay in this ship, we can get to the place where the ship is heading to.
