(7/7) Pride in Our Identity

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Ekachakra—Worldwide, 21 February 2021, part 7

Question: We are going to speak in one college about identity. Is there any message we can give to them?

The message is what Gurudev tells. They are studying to become doctors and engineers… An engineer can make a big construction, a big building that will stand for many years, but they do not know how many days they themselves will be alive this world – how many days they will stay in this world. They are very fortunate to have got human bodies, but they are using these bodies only to eat, enjoy and sleep. This is not what these bodies are for. When you got a human body, you promised to Lord Krishna that you would remember Him, that you would practise Krishna consciousness. A doctor treats other people, but this is only physical help; first you must treat yourselves. You must understand that you are not these bodies.

You think that you are these bodies, but it is not true; you are actually jiva souls (atma). To improve the position of your atma, to bring benefit to your atma, it is necessary to chant the Holy Name, to follow what Krishna tells us. Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. We always pray to the Lord for our own physical, mundane benefit, but we never think about our spiritual benefit.

These are the main things you can tell them. It is unfortunate that people become great PhDs, get doctorates and become very proud of that. We forget that we are eternal servants of the Lord. What should we be proud of? We must be proud of being eternal servants – eternal servants of the servants of devotees. This is our main pride. But we become proud of our education. This education is mundane! Real education is when you learn to be a devotee.

If you do not practise Krishna consciousness, then even if you live for one hundred or two hundred years, such a life is nothing. On the other hand, you may stay in this world for only ten years, and that can be sufficient if you chant the Holy Name and practise Krishna consciousness. It is necessary to understand this.

I would like to finish now, I still have some things to arrange for tomorrow. I must give service to some devotees because it is ekadasi tomorrow and all the devotees will start coming on this day. Actually, devotees have already started coming today. Sripad Niriha Maharaj is giving a class now – he came three–four days ago; some devotees have come today also. So, I am finishing here. I am asking you all forgiveness – please forgive my offences. Please remember this festival and always chant the Holy Name. That is the main thing.

Jay Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj ki jay.

Sanatan-Dharma: Universal Religion
'Everything in this world is born and exists for the service to the Lord, and the sanatan-dharma (your religion) is to use everything for the service to the Lord. It is not only my religion, or your religion, everybody's religion should be one.'

In this world no one is your enemy, no one is your friend.
Only Krishna is your friend—if you make Him your friend.
