Devotees' Love

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad

Question: Why did Mahaprabhu preach that prema (love) is the goal of life?

In this age of Kali, people's lifetime is very short, it is not like in Satya-yuga or Treta-yuga. In Satya-yuga, the lifetime is 100,000 years, in Treta-yuga the lifetime is 10,000 years, in Dvapar-yuga the lifetime is 1,000 years, and Kali-yuga's lifetime is 120 years. That is why Mahaprabhu taught that you can conquer others with love and affection, not by making others your enemy.

In this age of Kali, if you give people some love and affection, you can easily convert them. In this age, people live in family life, they love each other, but this is false love and affection because in this world when somebody loves somebody, it is for their own selfish interest. Mahaprabhu's interest, Mahaprabhu's love and affection is not like that.

Actually, the love and affection that pure devotees give is not false—through their love and affection you can easily conquer others' hearts. We are fallen souls, and those who are fallen souls do not know anything, so through love and affection Mahaprabhu conquered the whole world.

This is the process that Krishna Himself teaches, and this is what we teach too.

The Wealth of Heart
'We must always keep the advice that our Guru gives us in our heart. It is necessary to do it otherwise we cannot proceed.. Some obstacles can come—not only can come, they will definitely come—but we must proceed even with obstacles.'

Durlabha manava-janma
'I eat luxuriously, look around, and dress carelessly, never considering that one day I will leave this body.'
দুর্লভ মানব জন্ম

Because of our ego we think we have done so many things and we are doing
so many things—that is why we become tired and hopeless.
