(2) Mahaprabhu's Kirtan
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Many of us chant Gauranga's kirtans, but we must read His 'Siksastakam' carefully. Let us chant now Mahaprabhu's glorification. Nityananda Prabhu also chanted Mahaprabhu's kirtan and preached about Him. নদীয়া-নগরে নিতাই নেচে’ নেচে’ গায় রে ॥ nadiya-nagare nitai neche’ neche’ gaya re Nitai is dancing and singing all over Nadia:

What does it say here? 'Jagannatha-suta' means Nimai, Mahaprabhu Visvambhar, the son of Jagannath Misra. 'Mayapura-sasi' means the moon of Mayapur. He is the son of Sachi Mata, He is Gaura-hari, the Supreme Lord of golden lustre, He is Nimai-sundar (beautiful Nimai, born under a neem tree), He is the great dancer (Krishna) garbed in Sri Radha’s heart and halo. 'Namananda chapala balaka' means that He is hyperactive (too energetic, restless). When our children get hyperactive like that, mothers always come and say, 'Calm down, calm down.' Mahaprabhu was also like that, but He was also 'mantri-bhakta', He loved His mother very much. Even when He later lived in Puri, He sent prasad for her. One time, His mother got something like a sunstroke and was about to faint, and He brought a coconut for her. Somebody saw Sachi Mata in that state and informed Nimai at once, 'Come quickly! Your mother has collapsed!' There were no coconut trees near the house, but He suddenly produced a coconut out of nowhere!

লক্ষ্মীপতি পূর্ব্বদেশ-সর্ব্বক্লেশহর ।
laksmi-pati purva-desa-sarva-klesa-hara (23) He is Laksmi’s husband, (24) He steals all miseries of the eastern lands, (25) He steals the pride of Digvijayi Pandit, (26) He is the Lord of Visnupriya. 'Chaura-dvayera mohana': there were two thieves who once saw that Nimai was wearing many golden ornaments on His body – they decided to entice the boy with some sweetmeat and steal His ornaments. When they approached Nimai, they started thinking who will take what. One of them said, 'I will take the ornaments from His hands!' The other one said, 'And I will take the ornaments from His feet!' But as they carried Nimai away, they had become so enthralled by Nimai's illusion that they could not even find their own house! They walked the whole day in circles and in the end turned up at Nimai's house. Nimai's parents were in uproar looking for their son, so there was a large crowd of people at the house. Everybody was worried, looking for Nimai. When Sachi Mata saw her son, she cried, 'Who has brought my baby? I want to reward you!' But the thieves had already fled for their lives from there. Nimai bestowed His mercy upon those thieves. 'Gramya-balika kridana' refers to Mahaprabhu's youth pastimes when He would go to the Ganges to bath and joke with the small girls who came there to worship the Ganges to get good husbands. Nimai would destroy all their offerings and disrupt their worship, declaring, 'Worship Me! If you worship Me, your worship of the Ganges will automatically be carried out and you will get good husbands.' The girls replied, 'Hey, we are like sisters to You, what are You doing? We will tell Your parents! Stop joking like this with us.' Nimai would take all the sandalwood and garlands that the girl had brought and put them on His own body! 'Worship Me!' He said. The girls got angry and threatened Him that they would complain to His parents. Then, they would try to take all the prasad away, but Nimai cried, 'Do not go! Give the prasadam to Me! If you do not give this prasadam to Me, I will curse you! If you do not give Me prasadam, the husband you get will be an old man with seven wives! Worship Me, give prasadam to Me, then you will get good husbands and have seven sons.' 'Laksmi-pati' refers the pastime when Mahaprabhu went to Bangladesh to preach the Holy Name. At that time, Laksmi Devi was bitten by a snake of separation. She went to Him, and Mahaprabhu was astonished, 'Laksmi, you? What are you doing here? Why did you leave My mother?' He immediately started His way home, and when He reached His house, He found His mother crying bitterly. 'Mother, why are you crying?' He asked her. 'Are you crying because Laksmi left you here alone and went away? Do not cry. One who is meant to leave has to leave.' Also, 'Laksmi-pati purva-desa-sarva-klesa-hara' means this: Laksmi Pati is Lord Narayan, the Supreme Lord, and this Supreme Lord went to Bangladesh (East Bengal) and removed everybody's misery. 'Digvijayi-darpa-hari': just as Krishna smashed to powder Indradev's pride, Mahaprabhu smashed Digvijayi Pandit's pride. You have all heard about him. Having got a boon from Saraswati that nobody would be able to defeat him, Digvijayi Pandit conquered Kashmir and Kashi. Then, he came to Nabadwip and spoke to Nimai. He recited many verses in glorification of Mother Ganges. Selecting one of those verses, Mahaprabhu asked him to explain it, but Digvijayi Pandit's explanation was full of mayavad, so when Mahaprabhu explained it after him, Digvijayi Pandit understood that he had lost to Him. Defeating Digvijayi means that Nimai bestowed His mercy on him. Later that day, Saraswati Devi came to him in a dream and said, 'The person you were defeated by today is not an ordinary person. He is my Master, my husband. He is the Master of the whole world. Go tomorrow and apologise to Him.'
