(3) Mahaprabhu: Master of Nabadwip

আর্য্যধর্ম্মপাল পিতৃগয়া পিণ্ডদাতা ।
পুরীশিষ্য মধ্বাচার্য্য-সম্প্রদায়-পাতা ॥

arya-dharma-pala pitri-gaya pinda-data
puri-sisya madhvacharya-sampradaya-pata

(27) He upkeeps the highest religion, (28) He makes an offering to His father in Gaya, (29) He is a disciple of Sri Ishvar Puri, (30) He protects the lineage of Madhva Acharya.

When His father, Sri Jagannath Misra, left his body, Nimai went to Gaya to offer pindu to His forefathers. There, He became a disciple of Sri Ishvar Puri, who is a disciple of Sri Madhavendra Puri. That is why we say that our disciplic succession stems from Sri Madhavendra Puri. There are many disciplic successions now, but Mahaprabhu is the protector of Sri Madhva Acharya's sampradaya. People say that this line has gone to many different directions, that some of it went to sahajiya, and so on, but this is not so. Mahaprabhu is the pillar of Sri Madhva Acharya's sampradaya, this is the truth.

কৃষ্ণনামোন্মত্ত কৃষ্ণতত্ত্ব অধ্যাপক ।
নামসংকীর্ত্তন-যুগধর্ম্ম-প্রবর্ত্তক ॥

krsna-namonmatta krsna-tattva adhyapaka
nama-sankirtana-yuga-dharma-pravartaka

(31) He is intoxicated with the Name of Lord Krishna, (32) He teaches about Lord Krishna, (33) He establishes congregational chanting of the Holy Name as the religion for the Age of Kali.

অদ্বৈত বান্ধব শ্রীনিবাস-গৃহধন ।
নিত্যানন্দ-প্রাণ গদাধরের জীবন ॥

advaita bandhava srinivasa-grha-dhana
nityananda-prana gadadharera jivana

(34) He is Advaita Acharya’s friend, (35) He is the treasure of Srivas’s home, (36) He is the life and soul of Lord Nityananda, (37) He is the life of Gadadhar.

He is intoxicated with the Holy Name, and He is a great teacher who explains who Lord Krishna is and what our relationship with Him is. He also establishes the religion of the age.

কলিকালে নামরূপ কৃষ্ণ-অবতার ।
নাম হৈতে হয় সর্ব্বজগৎ-নিস্তার ॥

kali-kale nama-rupe krsna-avatara
nama haite haya sarva-jagat-nistara

‘Krishna appears in Kali-yuga in the form of His Name, and the entire world is delivered through that Name.’

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.17.22)

The religion that Mahaprabhu preached as the religion of the age is the true religion; all other conceptions and ideas are not religion. In this Age of Kali the religion is Harinama-sankirtan – Mahaprabhu was the one who established this religion.

'Advaita bandhava srinivasa-grha-dhana.' Where does the Lord stay? What does He say about it Himself? He says, 'I stay at Sachi Mata's kitchen, wherever Nityananda Prabhu dances and at the houses of Srivas Pandit and Raghav Pandit.' He is also a dear friend of Advaita Acharya, the treasure of Srivas Pandit, the life and soul of Nityananda Prabhu, and the very life of Sri Gadadhar Pandit.

অন্তর্দ্বীপ-শশধর সীমন্ত-বিজয় ।
গোদ্রুম বিহারী মধ্যদ্বীপ লীলাশ্রয় ॥

antardvipa-sasa-dhara simanta-vijaya
godruma bihari madhyadvipa lilasraya

(38) He is the moon of Antardwip, (39) He is the victory of Simanta, (40) He enjoys His pastimes in Godrum, (41) He is the shelter of Madhyadwip pastimes.

কোলদ্বীপ পতি ঋতুদ্বীপ মহেশ্বর ।
জহ্নু মোদদ্রুম রুদ্রদ্বীপের ঈশ্বর ॥

koladvipa pati rtudvipa mahesvara
jahnu modadruma rudradvipera isvara

(42) He is the Master of Koladwip, (43) He is the great Lord of Ritudwip, (44) He is the Lord of Jahnu, (45) Modadrum and (46) Rudra islands.

নবখণ্ড-রঙ্গনাথ জাহ্নবী জীবন ।
জগাই-মাধাই-আদি দুর্ব্বৃত্ত-তারণ ॥

nava-khanda-ranga-natha jahnavi jivana
jagai-madhai-adi durvrtta-tarana

(47) He is the Lord who enjoys His nine-fold pastimes, (48) He is the life of Jahnavi (Ganga), (49) He is the rescuer of the wicked-minded (Jagai, Madhai and others).

Here, various islands are mentions – Antardwip, Simantadwip, Godrumdwip, Madhyadwip, Koladwip, Ritudwip, and so on. He is the Supreme Lord, the Supreme Master of all islands of Nabadwip. He is the moon of Antardwip, great Lord of Ritudwip, the relisher of Godrumdwip, shelter of Madhadwip pastimes, master of Koladwip and Ritudwip, the Lord of Jahnudwip, Modadrumdwip and Rudradwip. He is the very life of Jahnavi (the Ganges), and He also rescued Jagai and Madhai.

নগরকীর্ত্তনসিংহ কাজী উদ্ধারণ ।
শুদ্ধনাম-প্রচারক ভক্তার্ত্তিহরণ ॥

nagara-kirtana-simha kaji uddharana
suddha-nama-pracharaka bhaktartti-harana

(50) He is a lion among the congregational chanters on the street, (51) He is the rescuer of Chad Kazi, (52) He is the preacher of pure Holy Name, (53) He steals devotees’ distress.

নারায়ণী-কৃপাসিন্ধু জীবের নিয়ন্তা ।
অধম-পড়ুয়া-দণ্ডী ভক্তদোষ-হন্তা ॥

narayani-krpa-sindhu jivera niyanta
adhama-paduya-dandi bhakta-dosa-hanta

(54) He is an ocean of mercy bestowed upon Narayani, (55) He is the master of Sri Jiva, (56) He is the chastiser of fallen students, (57) He is the slayer of devotees’ faults.

শ্রীকৃষ্ণচৈতন্যচন্দ্র ভারতী-তারণ ।
পরিব্রাজশিরোমণি উৎকল-পাবন ॥

sri-krsna-chaitanya-chandra bharati-tarana
parivraja-siromani utkala-pavana

(58) He is Sri Krishna Chaitanya, (59) He saves Keshav Bharati, (60) He is a crest-jewel among mendicants, (61) He is the saviour of Odisha.

When Chad Kazi broke a mridanga, Mahaprabhu rescued not only him but also all his family. Not only did He preach about the pure Holy Name, He also removed all misery and suffering of all devotees. He also bestowed mercy upon Srivas Pandit's niece Narayani – as the result, she got Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur, the great composer of Sri Chaitanya-bhavagata, as her son. This year, we went to his birthplace on the third day of the parikrama.

Mahaprabhu's fallen students were wayward. They said, 'We will do this!', 'Will do that!' But Mahaprabhu was very strict. For example, whenever Mahaprabhu saw somebody without tilaks, He would chastise them. When Mahaprabhu chanted, 'Gopi, gopi, gopi!' His students would come and say, 'Why are You not chanting Krishna's Name?' Mahaprabhu forgave all such people's offences and rescued them. Mahaprabhu's mood was that of a devotee – He showed Sri Radhika's mood; so, He always hankered to live in the shelter of gopis. That is why He chanted, 'Gopi, gopi, gopi.' He showed His divine mood of a gopi in this way. So, when they asked Him, 'Why are You not chanting Krishna's Name?' They could not understand His mood. Hearing their words, Mahaprabhu would get angry. In the end He said, 'No, I will not stay here. Better I take sannyas and go to Puri. That Krishna is a debauch! He steals and lies! Why must I worship Him? I will take sannyas!'

He took sannyas in Katwa, and He took sannyas from Bharati Maharaj to bestow mercy on him. Even Keshav Bharati himself said, 'On the pretext of taking sannyas, Prabhu has come to me to bestow His mercy on me and rescue me.' So, first Mahaprabhu spoke the sannyas mantra to Keshav Bharati, and then Keshav Bharati gave that mantra to Mahaprabhu.
