(14/18) Submission without Resistance
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Suppose gurudev gives you some service, but you think, 'Oh, I cannot do it properly,' and you leave that service. This is wrong and inauspicious. At the same time, carrying on doing your service in an impure way, always making mistakes or with a wrong mood, that is also wrong and inauspicious. Our mood should be, 'Gurudev has given me this service, so I must do my best to do it nicely.' We must always keep trying. If you strive to practise spiritual life, you will be successful very soon. It is necessary to try, to make effort. For example, gurudev tells you to stay in Nabadwip, but you think, 'Oh, I would like to stay in Vrindavan.' It means that you are not thinking about making Krishna happy – you are thinking about your own happiness, you live satisfying your own senses. What you like is not what is good for you; wherever your guru tells you to stay, that is what is best for you. You may like some particular service, but if gurudev orders you to do something else, it is better for you to do it, even if you may not like it. There is also another thing. You say, 'I do not like going for collection. Why are they sending me for collection? I cannot do it! It is very hard to do collection because you have to roam the streets, you have to visit people's houses and get sworn all the time.' If you think like this, it means that you do not have strong faith. Even if you do not do some service, gurudev will still do it – he does all services, he takes care of everything. So, if you do not do something, somebody else will. Even if you do not go for collection, there will be no loss or damage to the Lord's service because it will still be done. Gurudev takes care of all services, so he will have it done through somebody else. Thus, surrendered souls always live following the order of their guru, and those who are not surrendered live following their own desires and foster atheism in their hearts – instead of following the orders of their guru-varga, they submit to their own desires. Whether one is a temple resident or a householder, everybody must open their hearts to gurudev. When patients come to a doctor, if they do not tell everything openly to the doctor, the doctor will not be able to prescribe the right medicine. In the same way, when you come to your guru, you must open your minds and hearts to him. When you open yourselves to him, it will attract gurudev's vision to you. It is good to tell gurudev everything openly. I have seen very few practitioners who do not consider the problems in their spiritual practising life important – the reason for this is deceit and other desires. There are very few of such practitioners even among those who live at the temples. If you submit and open yourselves to gurudev, gurudev will look after you. But from your side (from the practitioners' side), you should open yourselves – you should submit yourselves fully.
