Nivedana (Humble Petition)

gopinath, mama nivedana suna
visayi durjana, sada kama-rata,
kichhu nahi mora guna [1]

Gopinath! Please hear my humble petition. I am a gross materialist and a very bad person who always indulges his desires. There is nothing good in me.

gopinath, amara bharasa tumi
tomara charane, lainu sarana,
tomara kinkara ami [2]

Gopinath! You are my only hope. I have taken shelter at Your holy feet – I am Your servant.

gopinath, kemane sodhibe more
na jani bhakati, karme jada-mati,
padechhi samsara-ghore [3]

Gopinath! How will You make me pure? Engrossed in material life, I do not know anything about devotion. I have fallen into this awful material world.

gopinath, sakali tomara maya
nahi mama bala, jnana sunirmala,
svadhina nahe e kaya [4]

Gopinath! Everything is Your illusion. I have no strength or pure knowledge – I have no control over this body.

gopinath, niyata charane sthana
mage e pamara, kandiya kandiya,
karahe karuna dana [5]

Gopinath! This wretch is weeping and begging for a permanent place at Your holy feet. Please bestow Your mercy.

gopinath, tumi ta’ sakali para
durjane tarite, tomara sakati,
ke achhe papira ara [6]

Gopinath! You can do anything. You have the power to deliver bad people. Is there anyone as sinful as me?

gopinath, tumi krpa-parabara
jivera karane, asiya prapanche,
lila kaile suvistara [7]

Gopinath! You are an ocean of mercy. Coming to the material world, You liberally perform Your pastimes for the sake of jiva souls.

gopinath, ami ki dosera dosi
asura sakala, paila charana,
vinoda thakila basi’ [8]

Gopinath! What wrong have I done? All demons have got to come to Your holy feet – only Vinod is still sitting and waiting.

gopinath, ghuchao samsara jvala
avidya-yatana, ara nahi sahe,
janama-marana-mala [1]

Gopinath! Please remove the agony of this material life! I can no longer bear the pain of ignorance in this succession of births and deaths.

gopinath, ami ta’ kamera dasa
visaya-vasana, jagichhe hrdaye,
phadichhe karama-phasa [2]

Gopinath! I am a slave of lust. Material desires are always springing up in my heart. I have got caught in the noose of my own actions.

gopinath, kabe va jagiba ami
kama-rupa ari, dure teyagiba,
hrdaye sphuribe tumi [3]

Gopinath! When will I wake up? When will I cast far off my enemy (desires), and when will You appear in my heart?

gopinath, ami ta’ tomara jana
tomare chhadiya, samsara bhajinu,
bhuliya apana dhana [4]

Gopinath! After all, I am Your own. But leaving You, I have worshipped material life, forgetting my own wealth.

gopinath, tumi ta’ sakali jana
apanara jane, dandiya ekhana,
sri-charane deha sthana [5]

Gopinath! You know everything ‒ You are punishing Your own. Please give me a place at Your holy feet.

gopinath, ei ki vichara tava
vimukha dekhiya, chhada nija-jane,
na kara karuna-lava [6]

Gopinath! Is this what You have decided to do? Have You decided that You will cast off Your own and will not give them even a drop of mercy if You see they have turned away from You?

gopinath, ami ta’ murakha ati
kise bhala haya, kabhu na bujhinu,
tai hena mama gati [7]

Gopinath! I am a great fool. I can never understand what is good for me, that is why I have ended up like this.

gopinath, tumi ta’ pandita-bara
mudhera mangala, sada anvesibe,
e dase na bhava para [8]

Gopinath! You are very intelligent, and You always try to bring benefit to the foolish. Please do not consider this servant an outsider.

gopinath, amara upaya nai
tumi krpa kari’, amare laile,
samsare uddhara pai [1]

Gopinath! I have no other way. If You mercifully take me to Yourself, then I can get relief from this material existence.

gopinath, padechhi mayara phere
dhana, dara, suta, ghirechhe amare,
kamete rekhechhe jere [2]

Gopinath! I have got myself into a scrape in this illusory world. Surrounded by my wealth, wife and children, I am always engrossed in material life and material desires.

gopinath, mana ye pagala mora
na mane sasana, sada achetana,
visaye ra’yechhe bhora [3]

Gopinath! My mind is as though mad. Unruly and always unconscious, it is full of material thoughts and desires.

gopinath, hara ye menechhi ami
aneka yatana, haila viphala,
ekhana bharasa tumi [4]

Gopinath! I accept my defeat. I have tried hard but always failed. You are my only hope now.

gopinath, kemane haibe gati
prabala indriya- vasibhuta mana,
na chhade visaya-rati [5]

Gopinath! What will become of me? My senses are very strong. They control my mind and do not want to give up material attachments.

gopinath, hrdaye basiya mora
manake samiya, laha nija-pane,
ghuchibe vipada ghora [6]

Gopinath! Please take Your seat in my heart. Quell my mind and take me to Yourself – please remove all these dreadful dangers.

gopinath, anatha dekhiya more
tumi hrsikesa, hrsika damiya,
ta’ra he samsrti ghore [7]

Gopinath! Please cast Your glance upon this orphan. You are the Lord of all senses, so You can subdue them – please rescue me from this terrible material existence.

gopinath, galaya legechhe phasa
krpa-asi dhari’, bandhana chhediya,
vinode karaha dasa [8]

Gopinath! I have a noose around my neck. Please sever the ropes of this bondage with Your sword of mercy. Make Vinod Your servant.
