SRI GAUDIYA GITANJALI : SARANAGATI GITI
durlabha manava janma labhiya samsare
krsna na bhajinu duhkha kahiba kahare [1]
I have got a rare human life in this world, but I have not worshipped Lord
Krishna. Who shall I tell about my misery now?
samsara samsara kari michhe gela kala
labha na haila kichhu ghatila janjala [2]
I have wasted all my time on material life and family and have got nothing
but garbage as the result.
kisera samsara ei, chhayabaji praya
ihate mamata kari vrtha dina yaya [3]
What kind of life is this? It is only a trick, a show. I have wasted time
taking this world and the people around me in it as my own.
e-deha patana ha’le ki rabe amara
keha sukha nahi dibe putra paribara [4]
What will I have when this body drops down dead? Nobody – neither my sons nor
my family – will give me any happiness.
gardabhera mata ami kari parisrama
kara lagi’ eta kari na ghuchila bhrama [5]
I have been toiling like a donkey. Who am I doing all this for? But I still
continue deluding myself.
dina yaya michha kaje nisa nidra-vase
nahi bhavi marana nikate achhe base [6]
My days pass in useless work and nights are wasted on sleep. It never occurs
to me that death is there, waiting right next to me.
bhala manda khai, heri, pari, chinta-hina
nahi bhavi e deha chhadiba kona-dina [7]
I eat, see and wear whatever I fancy without a worry in the world. I never
think that I will ever leave this body.
deha geha kalatradi chinta avirata
jagichhe hrdaye mora buddhi kari’ hata [8]
Constant thoughts about my body, home, wife and other things stir my heart,
wrecking my brain.
haya haya nahi bhavi’ anitya e saba
jivana vigate kotha rahibe vaibhava [9]
Alas! It has never occurred to me that all this is temporary. When life is
gone, where will all this wealth be?
smasane sarira mama padiya rahibe
bihanga patanga taya bihara karibe [10]
My body will be dropped at a crematorium, and birds and insects will heartily
enjoy it.
kukura srgala saba anandita ha’ye
mahotsava karibe amara deha la’ye [11]
All the dogs and jackals will rejoice – they will find my body and happily
feast on it.
ye dehera ei gati tara anugata
samsara vaibhava ara bandhu-jana yata [12]
The same fate befalls all extensions and paraphernalia of this body –
whatever family, wealth and friends there may be.
ataeva maya moha chhadi buddhimana
nitya-tattva krsna-bhakti karuna sandhana [13]
You are intelligent, so leave illusory charm and search for that which is
eternal – search for devotion to Krishna.
