MARCH 2022

Tue, 1 March 2022 (Sri Sivaratri, worship of Vaishnav Thakur Lord Siva)

"Come, Dear Mind, Come"
"One time, there started an annual festival at Sri Gaudiya Math. Many preachers of exclusive genuine religion, exemplary sannyasis and brahmacharis came to the temple from all over India..."

Today in the calendar: Krishna Chaturdasi. Sri Sri Sivaratri (optional fast). Disappearance of Sripad Yudhamanyu Prabhu Seva Vikram.

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila B.N. Acharya Maharaj: "Even if you do not know anything about the Vaishnav mentioned in the calendar, you must still give them 'jay' on this day. We must always remember disappearance and appearance days of all Vaishnavs. If we can remember such personalities, such great souls, it will bring a great benefit to our spiritual life."

"We should always check the calendar, and when we see some dates mentioned there, even if we do not know anything about the Vaishnav or events mentioned there, we can at least give 'jay' to them—that also brings some good sukriti, some purification to us. Seeing the calendar and taking devotees' names early in the morning, from the beginning of the day, is very good for all devotees."

In honour of Lord Siva:

devadidevam-ahibhusanam-indukasam
panchananam pasupatim varadam prasannam
gangadharam pranatapalakamasutosam
vande sadasiva-haripriya-chandramaulim

"The chief of the Devas, whose body is decorated by snakes, whose body shines like the moon, who has five heads, who carries his weapon known as Pasupat, who gives boons, who is of satisfied nature, who holds the Ganga on his head, who maintains those who give obeisance to him, who is easily pleased—I offer my obeisances to Sada Siva, who is dear to Hari, and whose crown is the moon."

"Usually, people worship Lord Siva for their own interest, but this is not a real worship. Do not do this. Do not make Sivji your servant by coming to him to get something in return for the puja. People say, 'Siva, give me this,' 'Siva, give me that'—Siva becomes their servant. However, our duty is to worship Lord Siva. I will worship Lord Siva, and whether he takes this worship or not, what he will give me or not give me, this is his matter. I do not care whether I like something or not, if he is happy to keep me in a bad condition, let him keep me in this way; and if he is happy to keep me in a good condition, let him keep me in this way. My happiness or unhappiness does not matter. We must always remember this."

~Srila B.N. Acharya Maharaj

Sivji Maharaj—Param Vaishnav [20 Jan 2016 | Translated from Bengali]
"Some say, 'You are a Siva bhakta, I am a Krishna bhakta!' You must not say such things. Siva and Krishna are not different from each other, and at the same time Krishna and Siva are one. Siva is an expansion of Krishna."

"O Vaishnav Thakur!" [9 December 2018 | Tarakeshwar]
"We cannot have the darshan of Lord Siva with these eyes. Do we have the eyes? We have the eyes for maya—we always see the things of illusory world. Devotees pray to Lord Siva for forgiveness of their offences. If you ask him for forgiveness, he is very merciful, he can remove your offences..."

Sivji Maharaj and Nandi: Journey to Sri Nabadwip Dham

"O worshippable Vaishnav, ocean of grace, be merciful to this servant. Give me the shade of your feet and purify me. I clasp your feet. You can give Krishna, you have that power. Calling, 'Krishna!' 'Krishna!', I run after you."

SONG: Krpa kara Vaishnav Thakura | কৃপা কর বৈষ্ণব ঠাকুর
"O Vaishnav Thakur! Please be merciful! Knowing the true relationship I will worship You and my ego will go far away. If I think, 'I am a Vaishnav,' then I will never stop expecting honour from others—my heart will become polluted by the desire for fame and I will end up in hell."

In Search of Hidden Treasure
"You can hear all kinds of things in this world—there are so many talks, discussions, criticism going on in this world, but there is a dire scarcity of Bhagavad-katha (narrations about the Lord). There is a dire scarcity of devotees who would speak and hear this Bhagavad-katha..."

Superficial Speculation
"Question: 'Apart from the war at Kuruksetra, when can war be justified?' Kuruksetra war happened by the will of Lord Krishna because there was a necessary of this war. Why was it necessary? What is the reason of it? We cannot judge what is necessary and what is not necessary. If something is to happen by the will of Krishna, who can stop it? It does not depend on us or anybody else."

Russian Translation:

Undaunted Devotion
"When the Kuruksetra war was over, Krishna decided to test Kunti Devi. He told her, 'O pishima (aunt)! Your sons have got the kingdom, you should be happy. Now My job has finished, I must go back to Dvaraka.' What did Kunti Devi tell at that time?"

Trials and Tribulations (1)
"Many troubles, problems will come in our service life, in our spiritual life, but we must avoid them—we must not give so much attention to that. We must go forward, ahead; do not look behind at what has passed. We must wage war against illusory environment."

Backstabbing
"I am not a politician, I am a straight person. Telling one thing and doing another thing behind—I cannot do that. If your enemy is in front of you, it is OK, you know he is your enemy, you can fight; but if it is like Vibhisan, or like Mir Jafar, then it is very difficult."

Student: Many people are worried about nuclear war. They think it may come very soon.

Sridhar Maharaj: That is a point on a line, a line on a plane, a plane in a solid. So many times wars are coming and going; so many times the sun, the Earth, and the solar systems disappear, and again spring up. We are in the midst of such thought in eternity. This nuclear war is a tiny point; what of that? Individuals are dying at every moment; the Earth will die, the whole human section will disappear. Let it be.

We must try to live in eternity; not any particular span of time or space. We must prepare ourselves for our eternal benefit, not for any temporary remedy. The sun, the moon, and all the planets appear and vanish: they die, and then again, they are created. Within such an eternity we have to live. Religion covers that aspect of our existence. We are told to view things from this standpoint: not only this body, but the human race, the animals, the trees, the entire Earth, and even the sun, will all vanish, and again spring up. Creation, dissolution, creation, dissolution—it will continue forever in the domain of misconception. At the same time, there is another world which is eternal; we are requested to enter there, to make our home in that plane which neither enters into the jaws of death, nor suffers any change.

In the Bhagavad-gita (8.16) it is stated:

abrahma-bhuvanal lokah
punar avartino 'rjuna
mam upetya tu kaunteya
punar janma na vidyate

"Even Lord Brahma, the creator himself, has to die. Up to Brahmaloka, the highest planet in the material world, the whole material energy undergoes such changes."

But if we can cross the area of misunderstanding and enter the area of proper understanding, then there is no creation or dissolution. That is eternal, and we are children of that soil. Our bodies and minds are children of this soil which comes and goes, which is created and then dies. We have to get out of this world of death.

(Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, Search for Sri Krishna)

Know Your Own Identity First
"We must first know who we are—we must first understand our own identity. That which is 'I' is not this body. Identifying yourself with the body is ignorance. You must forget it. What is our mistake? Our mistake is that we have forgotten that we are eternal servants of Krishna."

"I know you cannot come.... Still, if you are thinking about this Nabadwip Dham Parikrama and do Sri Nabadwip Dham Parikrama with us—if you read about the places we will go to every day, if you read and remember Sri Nabadwip Dham—it will be good for you. We will first go to Antardwip, then Simantadwip, Rudradwip, Madhyadwip, Godrumdwip, Koladwip, Ritudwip, Modadrumdwip, and Jhanudwip. If you remember Sri Nabadwip Dham from far away, then you will think that you are actually in this Sri Nabadwip Dham Parikrama. I know you will feel very sad every day because you cannot come, but you must remember Sri Nabadwip Dham from far, it will be very nice for you. This is the proper practice and proper etiquette for you. It is very important."

Dear Devotees, Friends, and Well-Wishers,

Please accept our humble obeisance at your holy feet.

Bowing down at your holy feet, we would like to extend to you this message of encouragement to observe Sri Nabadwip Dham Parikrama remembering the holy lotus feet of our Sri Gurupadpadma Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj.

Considering the calamitous circumstances we are placed in following the disappearance of our beloved Sri Gurupadpadma, we pray that everyone may find a possibility to observe this period immersed in Sri Hari-katha, Hari-kirtan, and Hari-seva, which are so extremely dear to our Sri Gurupadpadma, who continues to guide, protect and watch over us, albeit unseen to our mundane eyes.

Although there is currently no bona fide centralised outlet for service contributions in the Mission, we pray that devotees can render assistance to the festivals observed in their communities and focus eternally in their lives on contributing the core ingredient of every service endeavour—one's entire being, mind, heart and soul. In the words of His Divine Grace, "Surrender to the Lord. Have full faith. You must surrender and give everything—your shyness, shame, fear, everything; keep everything at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Krishna, Srimati Radharani, or Gurudev. Give your everything, cent per cent."

According to the wish and mercy of Sri Gurupadpadma, the Grand Festival shall take place on 12-19 March 2022. The programme and schedule of the Festival is the following (as established by Sri Gurupadpadma in our Vaishnav Calendar):

12 March (Sat) Adhivas (eve) of the festival of Sri Nabadwip Dham Parikrama.

16 March (Wed) Parikrama of Sri Godrumadwip and Sri Madhyadwip.
17 March (Thu) Parikrama of Sri Koladwip (second part), Sri Ritudwip, Sri Jahnudwip, Sri Modadrumadwip.
Main Celebration:
18 March (Fri) Sri Gaura Purnima Festival (Divine Appearance of Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu). Day-long Hari-katha, kirtans, reading from the scriptures, services around the temple.
Full fast until moonrise, followed by a special arati and prasad-seva (anukalpa—non-grain prasad only).
19 March (Sat) Anandotsav of Sri Jagannath Mishra. Breaking fast and offering special exquisite bhoga to Sri Gurupadpadma and the Lordships and distributing prasadam to all devotees, friends, and visitors.

Taking your feet dust on our heads, we humbly pray that this supremely worshippable week in honour of the holy advent of Sri Gaurasundar, celebrated with much joy and grandeur by the fortunate souls throughout the entire manifest creation, may pass auspiciously in every house and heart.

—{ SRI NABADWIP DHAM PARIKRAMA }—

ADHIVAS

SRI NABADWIP DHAM MAHATMYA :

DOWNLOAD: Sri Nabadwip Dham Mahatmya-Mukta-Mala (English) [PDF file, 73 MB]

A very special holy scripture presented to this world by His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj to nourish all jiva souls and bring eternal memory of Sri Nabadwip Dham to our hearts. Realising his long-standing desire, His Divine Grace has left for us this invaluable resplendent scripture containing all Hari-katha and Hari-kirtan that fill the entire land of Nadia during this special time of Sri Nabadwip Dham Parikrama.

Chapter One: The Glories of the Dham
"The glories of Nabadwip Mandal are unlimited. Brahma and the other gods do not know them. So, who can describe them? Ananta Sesa is unable to describe them with thousands of mouths. So, how will I, a tiny soul, be able to? By the will of Sri Chaitanya, the devotees have ordered me, and so I describe the glories of Nadia by their mercy."

Chapter Two: The Nature and Dimensions of the Dham
"Nabadwip Dham shines eternally within Gauda Mandal, and is served by Ganga Devi. I do not see anyone in the world during the Age of Kali as unfortunate, pitiable, and fallen as someone who does not serve such a merciful Lord and rejects such an inconceivable abode. Therefore, brother! Give up all other desires and attachments, and devote yourself exclusively to Nabadwip Dham."

Chapter Three: Instructions for Circumambulating the Dham of the Dham
"Devotees, listen! I will now describe everything within the thirty-two miles of Nabadwip. Circumambulation is always done in this way and is a source of unlimited joy for the soul. Those who traverse the one hundred and sixty-eight miles of Sri Gauda Mandal quickly attain the wealth of divine love for Gaura."

Chapter Four: Sri Jiva Hears the Glories of the Dham
"Jiva was young and had a beautiful figure. His extreme detachment was astonishing to see. After walking for many days, always filled with divine love, Jiva arrived in Nabadwip. He came to Barakona Ghat and asked everyone, 'Where is Nityananda Prabhu? Please show me.'"

Knock, Knock! (Ahvana Poem)
"Who is your friend? Your friend has come to your house as a beggar and prays to you, 'Please chant the Name of Krishna! Come with us!' Just like a beggar he comes to you, but you cannot recognise him."
Download / listen to the audio (2.7 Mb, 8 min | 28 February 2012)

"I am touching your feet—please come!"
"Gurudev says, 'I am folding my hands, I am touching your feet—please come at Gaura Purnima!' How many more times will you come to this world? Those who do this Nabadwip Dham parikrama with devotees do no have to wander any longer in these three worlds."

Prime Festival
"Gurudev wrote a very nice poem, you can read it and see how strongly he is writing about Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrima. And Gurudev told me to go door to door, come inside each door and please pull them to come and join Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama..."

"I Will Always Be With You"

Beginning of Sri Nabadwip Dham Parikrama
Srila Bhakti Kusum Ashram Maharaj's speech in English during the evening class: "We feel we are very insignificant but very fortunate at the same time to be among you all, fortunate souls who are participating in this festival, who are present here on this historic day and at the festival celebrating the campaign of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and His associates."

Parikrama Is Not Sightseeing
"We have come here to serve the Lord, we have not come to see the Lord or the Lord's things—when such mentality comes to you, then it will be the parikrama of the holy abode, then it will be the darshan of the holy abode. The very dust there is not ordinary dust..."

Chapter Six: Visiting Sri Ganga Nagar, Sri Prthu Kunda, Sri Simantadwip, Sri Visram Sthan, and Other Places
"The next day in the morning, Nityananda Prabhu left the Temple with Srivas and Sri Jiva. Ramadas and other devotees accompanied them, and they chanted the Name of Gaura as they walked."

Futile Efforts
"If you chant the Holy Name but this material mentality does not go away, then it means you are not chanting the Holy Name. You will have to leave everything and go away. Why can you not understand this?"
Download / listen to the audio (1.3 Mb, 3 min | 27 January 2020 | Bengali)

Cries of a Fallen Child
"You can recognise a Vaishnav by his quality. The higher a Vaishnav is, the more humility they have. They are always humble, they always stay in the background. We say, 'I am your fallen servant,' but this should not be just written—our behaviour should be like that."
Download / listen to the audio (3.8 Mb, 15 min | 21 March 2021 | Bengali)

Today in the calendar: Gaura Dvadasi. Disappearance of Sripad Madhavendra Puri.

In honour of Srila Madhavendra Puripad:

Sri Madhavendra Puripad
"Every year on the second day of the parikrama we celebrate this day—Sri Madhavendra Puripad's disappearance festival. Actually, Srila Madhavendra Puripad is the root of the wish-fulfilling tree of devotion..."

Loving Search for the Lost Servant
"When will you come to Me? When will you come to serve Me?"—the Lord goes to the extremes waiting for us to come to Him, so why is it that we still cannot come to Him?

Surrounded by His devotees, again and again He sings and dances. Streams of tears flow from His eyes and sprinkle the ground. Let us glorify Him, Lord Gauracandra."

The Golden Volcano Of Divine Love
This book has been compiled from the lectures of His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj and found a very special place in the heart of its author to the extent that His Divine Grace remarked it was his favourite English language publication. The text presented here is the second edition of the book.
"Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has taught us that separation is the highest principle in divinity. Just as the most intense conception of ecstasy is association with Krishna, the most intense conception of pain is separation from Krishna. Yet the pain felt from Krishna's separation is far more intense than the ecstasy felt from His association. Sriman Mahaprabhu says, 'Can't you understand the painful situation you are in? Your senses must have all been destroyed? Otherwise you would have died from the pain of separation from Krishna. It is inconceivable. We belong to Him wholesale. He is all in all to us, but we can't see Him. We are forcibly separated from Him. How can we tolerate this?'"

Sri Sri Prema Dhama Deva Stotram
A unique compilation of Sanskrit verses that contain most Pastimes of Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, written by Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj. Sri Sri Prema Dhama Deva Stotram has found exceptional appreciation in the hearts of the Vaishnav community worldwide. These verses are also sung every evening (10 each day, starting from Saturday) at Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math and its affiliate centers.
"I offer my respects unto Sri Gaurangadev, who rose like a golden moon in Sri Mayapura in 1407 Sakabda, revealed the Pastime of accepting the garments of the renounced order, sannyas, in 1431 Sakabda in order to benedict the entire material universe, and disappeared beyond the ordinary vision of the people of this world in 1455 Sakabda. I offer my obeisances to that beautiful Golden Lord, Gaurangasundar, the divine form of Krishna prema."

Far but Near
"Without his mercy we cannot be present here. Every year we think we will join this festival next year, but only Krishna knows whether we can join or not. Only by the mercy of Gurudev, by the mercy of Mahaprabhu can we be here."

Today in the calendar: Krishna Panchami. Festival at the appearance place of Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, Sripat Hapaniya: grand appearance of the Holy Deities of Sripat Hapaniya, Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Radha Gopinath Jiu at Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Ashram. Appearance of Tridandi Swami Srimad Bhakti Sharan Shanta Maharaj (an acharya of Sri Gaudiya Math). Pancham Dol.

"Wake up, look into the calendar and give 'jay' to your Guru and Vaishnavs. Always pay obeisance to your Guru and Vaishnavs when you wake up in the morning, always give them 'jay'. Always keep faith and show respect to them. Always see the calendar—whose appearance day it is, whose disappearance day it is. Even if you cannot make a festival, at least you can give them 'jay', it will bring you benefit. When you give 'jay' to your Guru and Vaishnavs, it brings you sukriti. For example, today is the disappearance day of a Vaishnav—give 'jay' to him, remember him. We must always remember the words of Vaishnavs. If I remember the words of Vaishnavs, I get some benefit, some deposit through that."

[PDF, 75 Mb]

Shortly before our beloved Gurudev, His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj, chose to withdraw from our unfortunate eyes, he had given us an order to prepare the translation of the holy book Sri Nabadwip Dham Mahatmya-Mukta-Mala that was originally compiled and published in Bengali in 2020.

In the words of Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj himself:

'You should always remember Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama. We have printed a very good book, Sri Nabadwip-Dham Mahatmya-Mukta-Mala, but it is not translated into English yet. It is written in a very simple language and contains all the lectures that I myself and all the sannyasis give during the parikrama time about the glories of Sri Nabadwip Dham. When I was proofreading it and when Bengali devotees now read it, we read this book and think, "We are in Nabadwip Dham parikrama!" Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur's Sri Nabadwip-Dham-Mahatmya is a good book, but it is written as a poem and very hard to understand. Devotees always like easy books; they always want to read what they can understand. Even I am still not so interested in reading Sri Nabadwip-Dham-Mahatmya, but the new book Sri Nabadwip-Dham Mahatmya-Mukta-Mala is written in prose, and it is a very great book'.

Yamaduts and Ego:
How to Survive?
How to escape Yamaduts? Is it really necessary to wear Tulasi neck beads? Can a grihastha be totally surrendered? And what to do if along with a lot of service there comes a lot of ego?

Sri Sri Prema-Vivarta
“Do not engage in worldly affairs on the pretence of Deity worship, and always avoid attachment and aversion to worldly matters.”

We always search for fault in others, but we do not think that we have our own faults—our ego is our problem.
