Live for Guru
'We love ourselves more than anybody else – we do not even know what it is
like to love others. People talk about love, but all the love in this world
is just lust. Whatever you can see in this world is not love – it is full of
lust. The real love is the love of Vraja gopis, Mother Yasoda and
Nanda Maharaj. It is necessary for disciples to have this kind of love for
their guru.'

Today in the calendar:
Krishna Sasthi. Appearance of Tridandi Swami Srimad Bhakti Saranga Goswami
Maharaj (a great prominent disciple of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati
Thakur Prabhupad, and a sannyas disciple of Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar
Dev-Goswami Maharaj.
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila B.N. Acharya Maharaj: "Even if you do
not know anything about the Vaishnav mentioned in the calendar, you must
still give them 'jay' on this day. We must always remember disappearance and
appearance days of all Vaishnavs. If we can remember such personalities, such
great souls, it will bring a great benefit to our spiritual life."
"We should always check the calendar, and when we see some dates mentioned
there, even if we do not know anything about the Vaishnav or events mentioned
there, we can at least give 'jay' to them—that also brings some good sukriti,
some purification to us. Seeing the calendar and taking devotees' names early
in the morning, from the beginning of the day, is very good for all
devotees."
"Wake up, look into the calendar and give 'jay' to your Guru and
Vaishnavs. Always pay obeisance to your Guru and Vaishnavs when you wake up
in the morning, always give them 'jay'. Always keep faith and show
respect to them. Always see the calendar—whose appearance day it is, whose
disappearance day it is. Even if you cannot make a festival, at least you can
give them 'jay', it will bring you benefit. When you give 'jay'
to your Guru and Vaishnavs, it brings you sukriti. For example, today
is the disappearance day of a Vaishnav—give 'jay' to him, remember
him. We must always remember the words of Vaishnavs. If I remember the words
of Vaishnavs, I get some benefit, some deposit through that."
"I offer my obeisance unto the beautiful follower of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta
Saraswati Thakur, Srimad Bhakti Saranga Goswami Maharaj. He has a radiant
form, long arms, and lotus eyes. He crushes the pride of the wicked and
squashes the cruel oppression of the heretics and demons. He is like a
thunderbolt on the mountain of hypocrisy. He is the sole friend of the
intelligentsia and a shining sun above the lotus of the aristocracy."
(Composed by Srila B.S. Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj)
"You should know who Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Saranga Goswami Maharaj
is and what is our connection and relationship with him. You must remember
this connection because without the knowledge of the relationship
(sambandha-jnana), you will develop neither the knowledge of
abhidheya (means to attain the goal) nor the knowledge of
prayojana (the goal).
"Srila Bhakti Saranga Goswami Maharaj (his brahmachari name was Sri
Aprakrita Prabhu) was a prominent disciple of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati
Thakur. When Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur entered his eternal
pastimes, Srila Bhakti Saranga Goswami Maharaj (Aprakrita Prabhu at
the time), although a very senior brahmachari preacher, left
the brahmacharya asram and went back to his house in great distress.
His was born in a village called Patrasayer (our Betur temple is situated
nearby). After some time, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj come to Sri
Aprakrita Prabhu and said, 'Prabhu, you are living a family life now, let it
be, but if you stay here, who will preach the conception of Mahaprabhu and
Srila Prabhupad in this world? You have so much qualification for service and
preaching – you must come back.' Then, Srila Aprakrita Prabhu said,
'If you give me sannyas, I will leave my home and family and come
back.' Srila Sridhar Maharaj agreed and gave him sannyas and the name
Sri Bhakti Saranga Goswami Maharaj. From that time, he came back to his
preaching services.
"Srila Goswami Maharaj began to preach in various places. Trying to
fulfil the earnest desire of Srila Prabhupad to spread Krishna consciousness
all over the world, Srila Goswami Maharaj even went to London, where he kept
preaching and, eventually, after much effort and having tolerated much
austerity, managed to open a small centre. He also has temples in Kolkata,
Jalpaiguri and other places. In his lifetime, he established twenty-four
centres in various places, among which is the temple in Imlitala, Vrindavan,
where Krishna was sitting when He decided that He would steal Radharaṇi's
heart and halo and come as Gauranga Mahaprabhu.
"Srila Bhakti Saranga Goswami Maharaj always helped our Sri Chaitanya
Saraswat Math in various ways, especially during parikramas and with
collection. Later, he finally established this temple here, at the place
where the first meeting of Sri Sri Gaura Nityananda Prabhu took place. Srila
Sridhar Maharaj had come here together with Srila Goswami Maharaj to see
the land, and he gave Srila Goswami Maharaj much advice on what kind of
temple to make, on the size of the nat mandir and other aspects.
"There is much that can be said about Srila Bhakti Saranga Goswami
Maharaj. After taking sannyas in 1940, he always kept in touch with
Srila Sridhar Maharaj. Our Srila Gurudev, Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Sundar
Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, said:
"'Once, Srila Goswami Maharaj gave a very special lecture. He
explained that he and other great preachers were active in all directions,
but they all waited to see what Srila Sridhar Maharaj thought about
the quality of their preaching style. He used the phrase simha
avalokana (a lion's glance), saying, "We are preaching over the whole
world, but from time to time we look back to see whether Srila Sridhar
Maharaj is happy with our preaching activities." "Simha avalokana"
means when a lion goes some distance, it stops and looks behind to check
the environment, then proceeds further, then again looks behind, and so on.
In this way, Srila Goswami Maharaj described how all the preachers again and
again looked towards Srila Guru Maharaj to see if their preaching had his
approval. Srila Goswami Maharaj was the dearmost disciple of Srila
Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur – Srila Saraswati Thakur depended on
his service. At the same time, although Srila Goswami Maharaj takes a unique
position in Gaudiya Mission, he was very affectionate to our Srila Guru
Maharaj. I have never seen him go against any decision of our Guru Maharaj;
we can say he almost blindly followed whatever Guru Maharaj decided, but he
was not a blind man – he had much faith in Guru Maharaj.'
"Moreover, one year, during the circumambulation of Vrindavan, Srila
Bhakti Saranga Goswami Maharaj personally worshipped Srila Sridhar Maharaj
with one hundred and eight lamps, incense and other paraphernalia on
the occasion of Srila Sridhar Maharaj's appearance day. Srila Goswami Maharaj
performed this function, joined by many of his disciples and other
godbrothers.
"Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj was Srila Bhakti Saranga Goswami
Maharaj's godbrother and sannyas-guru, but it is remarkable what kind
of respect he had for Srila Guru Maharaj. Every year, Srila Goswami Maharaj's
disciples would arrange a very fine Vyasa-puja celebration on the appearance
day of Srila Goswami Maharaj, and Srila Goswami Maharaj would personally go
to Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math to invite Srila Sridhar Maharaj to come to
his temple on that day. Srila Sridhar Maharaj usually did not go to other
temples, but he would always come to the temple of Srila Goswami Maharaj
(this very temple where we are sitting now). Srila Goswami Maharaj not only
invited Srila Guru Maharaj – he would give whatever presentations, whatever
donations or gifts he had received from his disciples on that day to his
sannyas-guru, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj.
"One year, showing a pastime of feeling unwell, Srila Sridhar
Dev-Goswami Maharaj could not come to the festival in honour of Srila Goswami
Maharaj's appearance, and that day Srila Goswami Maharaj said, 'Srila Sridhar
Maharaj has been coming every year, and I have been getting one more year of
life, but since he could not come this year, I think I will not be alive next
year.' And this is what happened – a few months later, on 26 May 1964, Srila
Goswami Maharaj entered his eternal pastimes."

Sri Ekadasi Guidance Guidelines on how to observe and honour this holy day: Ekadasi takes an
indispensible part in the life of a sincere practitioner. At Sri Chaitanya
Saraswat Math, Ekadasi and paran are observed with affection and without
fail according to the dates given in the Calendar.
Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj about fasting on ekadasi and
accepting material facilities:
"One time, a devotee came here from Vrindavan on the day of
ekadasi. He reached in the evening and, after taking bath in the
Ganges, attended kirtans, danced, circumambulated the temple and so
on. Then, I asked him whether he would take any anukalpa. He replied,
'Generally, I do not take anything, but if you like, then, of course, I must
take anukalpa. Your will is greater than my fasting.' That was his
decision.
"My Guru Maharaj (Srila Prabhupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur)
always wanted maximum energy: you should take good food and do good service.
That was his maxim. Krishna is not a liquidated party: take full
prasadam and do full service. Do maximum service, and you should take
whatever is necessary for that. You are to take it for the cause of Krishna,
not for your own cause. You are Krishna's, so if you grow weak, His service
will be hampered, and both you and Krishna will be losers thereby. 'My
soldiers will be well-fed and well-working.' That was our Guru Maharaj's
principle. Napoleon said, 'One full-fed soldier is equal to ten half-fed
soldiers.'
"So, prasad-seva: if it is service, then it must be taken in a
serving mood, of course. But, at the same time, the individual position of a
devotee should be taken into consideration. Sahajiyas do not Fast on
ekadasi at all: 'Oh, we are in Vrindavan, and there is no fasting in
Vrindavan.' But Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur, Srila Prabhupad did not like that –
it is sahajiya (imitation) if you go on feeding your senses in the
name of Krishna-bhakti (devotion to the Lord). For the service to Krishna, it
is necessary to keep up the body and to provide nourishment to it, so we must
take what is necessary for service. We do not like it if by fasting a loss of
energy is effected. If fasting does not hamper your service, you may go on
fasting – perhaps, your gurudev wanted that...
"For service, I must accept what is necessary to make me physically
fit so that I can render more service. So, accepting material things is not
objectionable. It is fruitful, not detrimental. Rather, it produces something
of a pure character, which helps everyone. This is how a disciple receives
and accepts things. At that same time, he may even blame himself, 'I cannot
go on with my worldly life without the help of this or that!' He will blame
himself, but the underlying spirit must be, 'If I do not take it, I shall be
unfit; I will not be able to do my bit of service to the Lord, to my
gurudev.'
"Moreover, by taking up renunciation, I will be a loser. I will incur
a loss for myself, for the world, and my guru's service will be
hampered. In this spirit, devotees are to take everything. For the cause of
Krishna, for the cause of their guru, they will accept anything.
"Suppose there is a very miserly karmachari (manager). Because
he does not want to spend money, he may not attain a particular result; then,
some difficulty comes, and the opportunity is lost. This manager will be held
responsible by the proprietor: 'Why did you not spend money? Why are you
afraid of spending money from my store? Because of your miserly habit, the
opportunity has been lost! Why should you not spend My money for My
interest?' So, to render service to Krishna, to my gurudev, to
Vaishnavs, to the world, to everyone, I must keep up this mundane body, and I
am entitled to take something for that.
"Miserliness is mayavada; it is the renunciation spirit, and it
will mar Krishna's interest. What we need is yukta-vairagya: I shall
take from the store of Krishna to keep myself fit and to do service. It is
Krishna's account, and if I do not do that, I should be a separatist, a
mayavadi, a renunciationist. I shall render maximum service to
Krishna, and I must take without any hesitation whatever is necessary to make
myself fit for the service; otherwise, I shall be punishable."

Bhagavad-Gita's Message
'Even when you drink a glass of water, you must think that this water comes

this water is for you, but it is not so. Sometimes we cannot make a proper

even at that time we must offer it remembering Krishna, remembering
gurudev, then we can take it. If you do not do this, it means you
steal Krishna's things.'

there, we can at least give 'jay' to them—that also brings some good sukriti,
some purification to us. Seeing the calendar and taking devotees' names early
in the morning, from the beginning of the day, is very good for all
devotees."
"The chief of the Devas, whose body is decorated by snakes, whose body
shines like the moon, who has five heads, who carries his weapon known as
Pasupat, who gives boons, who is of satisfied nature, who holds the Ganga on
his head, who maintains those who give obeisance to him, who is easily
pleased—I offer my obeisances to Sada Siva, who is dear to Hari, and whose
crown is the moon."
"Usually, people worship Lord Siva for their own interest, but this is
not a real worship. Do not do this. Do not make Sivji your servant by coming
to him to get something in return for the puja. People say, 'Siva, give me
this,' 'Siva, give me that'—Siva becomes their servant. However, our duty is
to worship Lord Siva. I will worship Lord Siva, and whether he takes
this worship or not, what he will give me or not give me, this is his matter.
I do not care whether I like something or not, if he is happy to keep me in a
bad condition, let him keep me in this way; and if he is happy to keep me in
a good condition, let him keep me in this way. My happiness or unhappiness
does not matter. We must always remember this."
~Srila B.N. Acharya Maharaj
Sivji
Maharaj—Param Vaishnav[20 Jan 2016 | Translated from
Bengali]
"Some say, 'You are a Siva bhakta, I am a Krishna bhakta!' You
must not say such things. Siva and Krishna are not different from each other,
and at the same time Krishna and Siva are one. Siva is an expansion
of Krishna."
"O Vaishnav Thakur!"[9 December 2018 | Tarakeshwar]
"We cannot have the darshan of Lord Siva with these eyes. Do we have
the eyes? We have the eyes for maya—we always see the things of
illusory world. Devotees pray to Lord Siva for forgiveness of their offences.
If you ask him for forgiveness, he is very merciful, he can remove your
offences..."
Gopeshwar
Mahadev's Surrender
"...Lord Siva entered the rasa-mancha in this mood, and Krishna
understood who had come. Everyone wondered where the new gopi had come from
and why Krishna was giving her so much honour."

Kunda in Sri Nabadwip Dham, Sri Sri Guru Gaura Radha Madan-Mohan jiu in
Sri Tarakeshwar Dham, and Sri Sada Siva at the Kadigachha temple.
If we can remember such personalities, such

disappearance day it is. Even if you cannot make a festival, at least you can

In Honour of Sri Nabadwip Dham Parikrama
"jaya navadvipa-dhama sarva-dhama-sara
jaya navadvipa-basi gaura-paribara
navadvipa sama dhama nahi tri-bhuvane"
'Glory to Nabadwip Dham, the quintessence of all abodes! Glory to the
residents of Nabadwip and all holy family of Gaura! There is no other abode
in the whole three worlds that could compare to Nabadwip Dham!'
A very special holy scripture presented to this world by His Divine Grace Om
Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj to nourish all jiva
souls and bring eternal memory of Sri Nabadwip Dham to our hearts. Realising
his long-standing desire, His Divine Grace has left for us this invaluable
resplendent scripture containing all Hari-katha and Hari-kirtan that fill the
entire land of Nadia during this special time of Sri Nabadwip Dham
Parikrama.
(You can also download or read online Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur's
Sri Nabadwip Dham Mahatmya, published earlier from our Sri Chaitanya
Saraswat Math.)
Sri Dham Parikrama: Adhivas
'Appeal on Sri Nabadwip Dham Parikrama'
'Men and women, young and old, come right away! Come to the divine abode of wish-fulfilling jewels, the land of Sri Gauranga's advent! Come and circumambulate it in the company of loving devotees during the most auspicious time of your life, the day of Sri Gauranga's advent.'
Sri Gaura-Dham and Sri Bhaktivinod
'Thakur Bhaktivinod, an exclusive follower of Sri Gauranga and the holy
embodiment of Nadia, prayed for the mercy of Sri Gaura-dham, which was
all-in-all in his life, with a great hankering. What is that mercy of Sri
Gaura-dham? What does it take to reside in Sri Gaura-dham? What sort of
humility do the residents of Sri Gaura-dham possess? And by whose mercy does
one attain residence in Sri Gaura-dham?'
About Dham Parikrama (Circumambulating a Holy Place)
Many can ask, 'Why is it necessary to travel to so many places? Especially
since you can engage in the service of the Lord while living at home, why is
it necessary to go anywhere else?'
Chapter One: The Glories of the Dham
"The glories of Nabadwip Mandal are unlimited. Brahma and the other gods
do not know them. So, who can describe them? Ananta Sesa is unable to
describe them with thousands of mouths. So, how will I, a tiny soul, be able
to? By the will of Sri Chaitanya, the devotees have ordered me, and so I
describe the glories of Nadia by their mercy."
Chapter Two: The Nature and Dimensions of the Dham
"Nabadwip Dham shines eternally within Gauda Mandal, and is served by
Ganga Devi. I do not see anyone in the world during the Age of Kali as
unfortunate, pitiable, and fallen as someone who does not serve such a
merciful Lord and rejects such an inconceivable abode. Therefore, brother!
Give up all other desires and attachments, and devote yourself exclusively to
Nabadwip Dham."
Chapter Three: Instructions for Circumambulating the Dham
of the Dham
"Devotees, listen! I will now describe everything within the thirty-two
miles of Nabadwip. Circumambulation is always done in this way and is a
source of unlimited joy for the soul. Those who traverse the one hundred and
sixty-eight miles of Sri Gauda Mandal quickly attain the wealth of divine
love for Gaura."
Chapter Four: Sri Jiva Hears the Glories of the Dham
"Jiva was young and had a beautiful figure. His extreme detachment was
astonishing to see. After walking for many days, always filled with divine
love, Jiva arrived in Nabadwip. He came to Barakona Ghat and asked everyone,
'Where is Nityananda Prabhu? Please show me.'"
Knock, Knock! (Ahvana

"Who is your friend? Your friend has come to your house as a beggar and prays
to you, 'Please chant the Name of Krishna! Come with us!' Just like a beggar
he comes to you, but you cannot recognise him."

At Sri Rudradwip
"Between Sri Antardwip and Sri Simantadwip (to the north-west), there lies
one more enchanting island called Sri Rudradwip. We used to come here every
year before, but we have not visited this place for many past years — we did
not have that kind of sukrti. This year, we have got the fortune to
come here again by the mercy of Sri Gurupadpama."

Sri Gaura Purnima Adhivas. Hari-katha spoken by His Divine Grace Om
Vishnupad Srila B.N. Acharya Maharaj on the eve of the divine appearance day
of Lord Gaurasundar:
YEAR 2016
My Grief
"Today, by the mercy of Sri Gurupadpadma, by the mercy of Gaura Hari, you
have successfully, beautifully and without any obtacles completed Sri
Nabadwip Dham parikrama. It is a very happy, joyful day, but at the
same time it is also a sorrowful day..."
Who Will Understand
This?
"This relationship is not a two-day connection, this connection is not just
to take initiation and go away, no. You must not only think like this, but
you must understand it. What is the love of Guru? What do you
receive from your Guru? You must always think about it."
Adopting the
Process
"In this place (Koladwip) the process is pada-sevanam (serving the
feet). It is necessary to practise this, and it is necessary to keep this in
your heart. Who can give you the Lord? You cannot get the Lord through
karma, yoga, or jnana."
Exclusive
Line—Exclusive Dedication
"You must worship and serve the Lord, you must worship and serve your Guru.
As long as you are alive you must come for this Nabadwip Dham
parikrama. In this way you will get a relationship with the Lord. Be
fixed and sincere in your practice and service."
YEAR 2020
Be Studious, Be
Serious
"Engage in eternal service, eternal practice of Krishna consciousness. The
more you go towards Maya, towards material life, the more suffering and
misery you will get from Maya. Do not see Gurudev as an object of enjoyment
instead of serving him. Do not see the things that are meant for the service
to the Lord as objects for your enjoyment."

Be Strict and
Straight In Your Behaviour
"You put tilaks, chant the Holy Name on the beads, but be careful, make sure
you do not behave in such a way that somebody can see your behaviour and say
that you are doing wrong. At least, keep looking at your Guru's face—you must
think, 'If I do something wrong, it will tarnish my Guru's name.' Always be
careful with your behaviour. 'Sadhu' means 'sat', they will
always live a pure (sat) live. Always try to live a clean, pure
life."

Niskam Bhakti
"Call out to Gurudev in your heart. It is not necessary to say anything out
loud. If you come to tell this to me in front of everyone, it means you want
everyone to know it. Most of the time, instead of Krishna consciousness
people put on a show and pretend, but unconditional service is not the same
as conditional service."

Association and
Chastity

one?"

Service Formula
"There are only twenty-four hours in a day. Where do we find time for other
things? Those who practise Krishna consciousness chant the Holy Name, have so
many things to do. Where is there time for prajalpa (idle talks and
gossiping)? Always think about your own spiritual life—think how
you are practising Krishna consciousness."

"If you only want to take initiation and then go back home and live as

'The pious land of India, bearing the holy footprints of the holy Lord and
His devotees, is the land of religion on this earth. Among the seven cities
within India that can grant liberation, there is Sri Mayapur that is situated
within Sri Dham Nabadwip, which is non-different from Sri Mathura Mandala.
Sri Mayapur is situated in the centre of Sri Nabadwip Dham, that is why it is
called "antar-dvip" ("inner island"). In this Antardwip, there lived
Sri Jagannath Misra, a greatest scholar and a shelter of pure goodness and
nobility...'

Run from Maya, not from
Home
'Guru Maharaj often said that foreign devotees have one advantage: they do
not have so much attachment to their family, but Bengali devotees are very
attached to their families. People do not have faith that the Lord will
protect everything....'
Challenging Choice
'If you make a step towards Maya, she will catch you by your legs and pull
you away to the prison-house. But if you make a step towards the Lord, the
Lord will take you to the path of devotion and bring you to His own abode.
Now you can choose – will you go towards Maya or towards the Lord?'
Always Keep in Touch
'Do not cheat me! I have entered into some relationship with you. You have
done this parikrama for several days, and we have formed some
relationship, so please keep in touch – phone me, write me letters or emails,
try to find out how I am – so that this relationship does not break.'
Grand Assembly
'Today is anandotsav (joyous festival) of Sri Jagannath Misra, and
Gurudev always made a Visva-Vaishnav Raja-Sobha ('Royal Assembly of Worldwide
Vaishnavs') on this day. It is the day when Vaishnavs from all over the world
assemble together...'
What Is Your
Greatest Joy?
'We must always think about it: what is our greatest happiness? I feel very
sad because somebody left yesterday saying that his daughter-in-law was going
to deliver a baby. Because his daughter-in-law had to give birth to the baby
yesterday, he ran back home.'
Messengers
of Highest Giver
'On this day, it is not only Jagannath Misra and Mother Sachi who rejoice.
Yesterday was a happy day for all gods and goddesses, for the whole world,
and today is a joyful festival, but seeing that everyone is rushing to leave
and jump back into their material life, I feet very sad.'

Future Is Now
'There is some method how you can attain the highest destination. This method
is constant chanting of the Holy Name. You must practise spiritual life all
the time. You must think about Krishna all the time. "How can I serve
Krishna? How can I come to the holy abode of the Lord? What will happen to me
after I leave this body?"'

candidly; because I have told to practise Krishna consciousness without
deceit, many people may even consider me their enemy. To become eager to
sincerely serve Lord Krishna, leaving all other desires and deceit, I have
caused various anxiety to many people. Some day or another they will
understand what I am saying.'

Today in the calendar:
Krishna Panchami. Manifestation Anniversary of Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Radha
Gopinath jiu at Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Asram in Sripat Hapaniya Dham and
Pancham Dol festival. Appearance (avirbhav) of Tridandi-swami Srimad Bhakti
Sharan Shanta Maharaj.
