SRI GAUDIYA GITANJALI : SPECIAL POETRY
Sri Sri Sachi-Sunvastakam
(Glorification of Mother Sachi’s Son)
(By Srila Raghunath Das Goswami Prabhu)
sri-sri-sachi-sunave namah
Obeisances to the Son of Sri Sri Sachi.
harir drstva gosthe mukura-gatam atmanam atulam

aho gaude jatah prabhur apara-gauraika-tanu-bhak
sachi-sunuh kim me nayana-saranim yasyati punah [1]
When the Supreme Lord saw His incomparable form in a reflection at the
pasturing grounds, He desired to taste His own sweetness. So, surrounded on
all sides by the girlfriends of His dearmost Sri Radhika, He descended in the
land of Gauda, assuming a transcendental golden form. Will this Son of Mother
Sachi ever again appear on the path of my sight?
puri-devasyantah pranaya-madhuna snana-madhuro
muhur govindodyad-visada-paricharyarchchita-padah
svarupasya pranarbuda-kamala-nirajita-mukhah
sachi-sunuh kim me nayana-saranim yasyati punah [2]
Coming in front of the Lord of Sri Puri Dham, He always bathed in the
sweetness of the honey of love for His beloved Lord. His holy feet are the
worshippable, pure, lustrous holy feet of Lord Govinda, and His holy lotus
face is worshipped with the eagerness of millions of lives. Will this Son of
Mother Sachi ever again appear on the path of my sight?
dadhanah kaupinam tad-upari bahir-vastram arunam
prakando hemadri dyutibhir abhitah sevita tanuh
muda gayann uchchair nija-madhura-namavalim asau
sachi-sunuh kim me nayana-saranim yasyati punah [3]
Garbed into a holy loincloth and saffron clothes, His worshippable body
resembles a tall golden mountain radiating effulgence all around, and He
joyfully and loudly chants His own sweet Names. Will this Son of Mother Sachi
ever again appear on the path of my sight?
anavedyam purvair api muni-ganair bhakti-nipunaih
sruter gudham premojjvala-rasa-phalam bhakti-latikam!
krpalus tam gaude prabhur ati-krpabhih prakatayan
sachi-sunuh kim me nayana-saranim yasyati punah [4]
He mercifully comes to the land of Gauda to bestow His mercy – to grant the
creeper of devotion that bears the fruit of the highest conjugal mellow of
divine love, which is hidden from all revealed scriptures and that even the
great souls of the bygone days, who were expert in devotion, did not know
about. Will this Son of Mother Sachi ever again appear on the path of my
sight?
nijatve gaudiyan jagati parigrhya prabhur iman
hare-krsnety evam ganana-vidhina kirtayata bhoh
iti prayam siksam janaka iva tebhyah paridisan
sachi-sunuh kim me nayana-saranim yasyati punah [5]
This Lord captured the whole Gaudiya world, prescribing everyone to chant the
Hare Krishna maha-mantra a certain number of times. Like a father, He
approached and instructed everyone. Will this Son of Mother Sachi ever again
appear on the path of my sight?
purah pasyan nilachala-patim uru-prema-nivahaih
ksaran netrambhobhih snapita-nija-dirghojjvala-tanuh
sada tisthan dese pranayi-garuda-stambha-charame
sachi-sunuh kim me nayana-saranim yasyati punah [6]
Seeing again the Master of Nilachal, He becomes overwhelmed with a surge of
divine love; oceans of tears flowing from His eyes bathe His long, effulgent
body; He keeps standing on the spot, behind everyone – at His dear Garuda
pillar. Will this Son of Mother Sachi ever again appear on the path of my
sight?
muda dantair dastva dyuti-vijita-bandhukam adharam
karam krtva vamam kati-nihitam anyam parilasan
samutthapya premnaganita-pulako nrtya-kutuki
sachi-sunuh kim me nayana-saranim yasyati punah [7]
Out of joy, He bites His reddish lips, whose splendour defeats red
bhandhuka berries; His puts His left hand on His hip and His other
hand shines all around Him as He raises it in the air, dancing expertly in
ecstasy, His hairs standing on end. Will this Son of Mother Sachi ever again
appear on the path of my sight?
sarit-tirarame viraha-vidhuro gokula-vidhor
nadim anyam kurvan-nayana-jala-dhara-vitatibhih
muhu-murchchham gachchhan mrtakam iva visvam virachayan
sachi-sunuh kim me nayana-saranim yasyati punah [8]
Seeing the bank and groves of the Ganges, He becomes afflicted by separation
from the Moon of Gokula (Lord Krishna) – shedding torrents of tears, He
creates another river. He keeps fainting as He walks on, the entire world
appearing as if dead to Him. Will this Son of Mother Sachi ever again appear
on the path of my sight?
sachi-sunor asyastakam idam abhistam virachayat
sada dainyodrekad-ati-visada-buddhih pathati yah
prakamam chaitanyah prabhur-ati-krpavesa-vivasah
prthu-premambhodhau prathita-rasade majjayati tam [9]
If anybody always studies and recites, with utter humility and a very pure
mind, this poem in glorification of Sachi Devi’s Son that reveals the
author’s inner hankering, Lord Chaitanya showers His profuse, unrestrained
mercy on such a soul and keeps this soul submerged in the extended nectar of
the vast ocean of divine love.
