Sriman Nabadwip Dham Vandana

srutich chhandogyakhya vadati paramam brahma-purakam
smrtir vaikunthakhyam vadati kila yam visnu-sadanam
sitadvipam chanye virala-rasiko yam vraja-vanam
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [1]

The Chhandogya sruti call it ‘the city of the Supreme Absolute’; the smriti call it ‘Vaikuntha’, the abode of Lord Vishnu; others know it as ‘White Island’; and rare relishers of transcendental ecstasy call it ‘Vraja forest’. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of the greatest joy.

yad ekamse brahma nija-kucharitat moha-janitat
krpa-sindhum gauram satata-manu-taptah samabhajat
prabhus tasmai gudham nija-hrdaya-vanchham samavadat
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [2]

In one of its regions, feeling guilty for having behaved bad out of illusion, Brahma always worships Gaura, an ocean of mercy. The Lord then fulfilled the secret desire of Brahma’s heart. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yad ekamse gauri giri-vara-suta visva-janani
sachi-sunor drstva bhajana-visayam rupam atulam
svasimante pradat prabhu-charana-renum bhagavati
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [3]

In one of its regions, Bhagavati, the golden daughter of the Himalayas and the mother of the universe, beheld the unparalleled beauty of the object of her worship, the son of Sachi Devi. She then placed the dust from the Lord’s feet upon her hair parting. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yad ekamse vajri nija-kumati-taptah sva-surabhim
samasritya premna druma-tala-samipe hari-padam
bhajan saksad gaurad varam ati-subham prapa vibudho
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [4]

In one of its regions, atoning for his impudence, the thunderbolt wielder Lord Indra took shelter of his cow Surabhi and lovingly worshipped the Lord’s holy feet beneath a banyan tree, attaining a very auspicious boon from Sri Gaura Himself. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yad ekamse sapta-rsi-gana-bhajanakrsta-hrdayah
aho! gaurah sarddha-prahara-samaye pradurabhavat
varam tebhyah pradach charama-samaye yadd-hita-karam
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [5]

In one of its regions, attracted by their service, Sri Gaura appeared in front of the seven sages one noon. Lo! He bestowed His benediction upon them at the best time, ensuring their welfare. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yad ekamse kaschid dvija-kula-patih puskara-matih
sva-varddhakyat tirtha-bhramana-visaye sakti-rahitah
dadarsagre tirtham parama-subhadam puskaram api
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [6]

In one of its regions, an exalted brahman, who was devoted to the holy place Puskara but in his old age did not have the strength to travel there, saw the supremely auspicious Puskara before him. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yad ekamse kolakrti-dhrg ati-chitram makhapatim
sva-bhaktaya pritya ratim ati-visuddham tri-bhuvane
dadau sri-gaurange sva-bhajana-balakrsta-hrdayo
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [7]

In one of its regions, assuming a dazzling form of a boar, Lord Vishnu was touched by His devotee’s loving attachment, the purest in the three worlds, and made him deeply attached to that which Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu came to worship and relish. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yad ekamse kunje nija-bala-vrto ’yam rtu-patih
natantam chaitanyam svagana-pariyuktam samabhajat
lata-gulmakirne phala-kusuma-bhara-pranamite
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [8]

In one of its regions, checking his power, Spring (the King of Seasons) personally worshipped Sri Chaitanya when He danced with His associates in the forest amidst creepers and shrubs, whose fruits and flowers weighed them down in an obeisance to Him. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yad ekamse jahnur bhajana-samaye subhra-salilam
samayatam drstva pratikula-tarangam samapivat
amunchat tam bhaktya punar api munir jahnu-tanayam
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [9]

In one of its regions, seeing the glistening waters of the Ganges approach at the time of his worship, Jahnu Muni drank her disrupting waves but later released her (thus, she became known as Jahnu Muni’s daughter) being moved by [King Bhagirath’s] devotion. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yad ekamse ramo dasaratha-suto laksmana-yutah
pura sita-sarddham katipaya-dinam ganga-puline
avatsitretayam muni-nikaro modadruma-tale
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [10]

In one of its regions, a long time ago in Treta-yuga, Lord Rama (the son of Dasarath), together with Laksman and Sita Devi, lived for a few days among sages beneath a banyan tree on the bank of the Ganges. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yad ekamse narayanam api param narada-munir
dadarsayam saksat sakala-bhajaniyam sura-varam
apasyat tam paschat parama-purusam gaura-vapusam
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [11]

In one of its regions, the great sage Narad beheld Lord Narayan Himself, the greatest of Gods, who is worshipped by everybody. After that, he saw the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His golden form. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yad ekamse partho drupada-tanaya-sevita-padah
avatsit sa-bhratah katipaya-dinam gaura-krpaya
maharanye punye muni-nikara-sevye hari-sakhah
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [12]

In one of its regions, by the mercy of Lord Gauranga, the Lord’s friend Arjuna, along with his worshippable spouse Draupadi and his brothers, spent a few days in a large, auspicious forest, serving the holy sages residing there. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yad ekamse rudrah sva-gana-sahitah prema-galitah
natan mandam mandam kara-damaru-vadya-pramuditah
aho gayatyuchchaih satatam api visvambharam asau
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [13]

In one of its regions, Lord Rudra, overcome with divine love, dances sweetly with his associates, delighted by the sounds of hand-held damaru drums. Lo! He always loudly sings about Visvambhar like this! I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yatha sthane sthane jala-parivrtas tirtha-nikarah
virajante sasvat sakala-muni-sevya hy agha-harah
tatha devah sarve girisa-paramesthi-prabhrtayo
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [14]

An abundance of holy places, surrounded by water, shine eternally throughout this land. Attended by Siva, Brahma, and all the other gods, these places destroy all sins and are worshippable to all the sages. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yatha praudha maya sva-pati-sahita vaisnava-ripun
jadanandam datva hari-niyama-kartri chhalayati
mrsa-sastracharair mada-vichalitan mohayati cha
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [15]

Here, Praudha Maya, the Lord’s warden, and her husband deceive Vaishnavs’ enemies by giving them material happiness and bewilder the zealous deviants who pretend to be following scriptural instructions. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yatha vaisa kali danuja-dalani sambhu-ramani
harer bhaktan snehat kapata-rahita palayati cha
paranandam gauram bhajati niyatam prema-galita
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [16]

Here, Kali, the wife of Sambhu and the fearsome destroyer of demons, sincerely and lovingly protects the Lord’s devotees. Lost in divine love, she eternally worships Gaura with great joy. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

yatha vani saksat prabhu-charana-sevasaya-rata
dvijatibhyo vidyam nikhila-naya-sastradi-visayam
dadaty esa nityam vibudha-tatini-tira-visaye
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [17]

Here, Saraswati, the goddess of speech, who is devoted to the service of the Lord’s holy feet, gives brahmans knowledge of all scriptures on social, political and other material subjects. She eternally resides on the bank of the Ganges, the river of gods. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

harih srimad-radha-dyuti-kavalitah parsada-vrtah
sachi-garbhodbhutah kali-kalusa-nasodyata-mana
yatha namnah sankirtanam ati-pavitram samakarot
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [18]

Taking Sri Radha’s lustre and surrounding Himself with His associates, the Lord arose from Sri Sachi Devi’s womb to destroy the contamination of Kali. Here, He engaged in the purest congregational chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

aho bhaktah kechit parama-ramaniye jana-pade
natantam gaurangam nija-jana-balaka-parivrtam
yatha pasyanty addha hari-bhajana-siddhau sva-nayanair
navadvipam vande tam iha paramananda-nilayam [19]

Lo! Attaining perfection in their worship of the Lord, devotees verily behold here with their own eyes Sri Gauranga dancing together with His associates and their beloved wives in this supremely charming city. I bow down to this Nabadwip, an abode of greatest joy.

navadvipe yo vai krta-nivasatir dvaidha-rahitah
idam stotram bhaktya pathati hari-pujadi-samaye
chid-anande saksat pranaya-sukha-bhavam bhagavati
sachi-sunau krsne parama-ramaniyam sa labhate [20]

Those who truly take up residence in Nabadwip without duplicity and recite this prayer with devotion at the time of offering worship and other services to the Lord attain transcendental joy and happy, loving service to the Supreme Lord – Gauranga Mahaprabhu, the son of Sachi Devi, who is none other than extremely charming Lord Sri Krishna.
