SRI GAUDIYA GITANJALI : SPECIAL POETRY
Sri Govinda Kunda Mahatmya
(Glories of Sri Govinda Kunda)
(By Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj)
samudra-sambhava gabhi apana
dugdhe abhiseka kaila vrajendra-nandana [1]
The heavenly cow Surabhi, who was born from the ocean, bathed the Son of the
King of Vraja with her milk.
sei dugdhe purna kunda ‘sri-govinda’ nama
ramya giri-govardhane sobhe abhirama [2]
From this milk, there appeared a pond known as Sri Govinda Kunda. It exists
beautifully at the enchanting Govardhan Hill.
kunda-vari maha-papa-hari se chinmaya
snane pane bhava-bhaya tri-tapa nasaya [3]
The transcendental waters of this pond remove even the greatest sins. If
anyone bathes or drinks this water, they become free from the fear of
material existence and from the three-fold miseries.
bahu-bhagye keha sei dugdhasvada paya
chidananda-deha labhu krsna-loke yaya [4]
Only very fortunate souls can drink the water from this pond and get the
taste of milk – such souls attain a transcendental body and come to the
eternal abode of Lord Krishna.
sri-krsna-manase yeba kare hetha snana
gupta-govardhane radha-krsna-seva pana [5]
Those who bath here meditating on Lord Sri Krishna receive service to Sri
Radha-Krishna at Gupta (Hidden) Govardhan.
