SRI GAUDIYA GITANJALI : SPECIAL POETRY
Sri Srivasa Astakam
asrayami sri-srivasam tam adyam panditam muda
suklambara-dharam gauram gaura-bhakti-pradayakam [1]
I happily take shelter at the holy feet of Sri Srivas, the first and foremost
scholar. He is clad in white and possesses golden complexion. He mercifully
bestows devotion to Lord Gauranga.
sri-gaurasya navadvipa-lila-kirtana-sampadi
yah pradhanataya khyatah sa srivaso gatir mama [2]
He gained his chief renown by participating in the pastimes and kirtan
of Sri Gaura in Nabadwip – this Srivas is my only shelter.
sri-gaura-kirtananande putra-soko ’pi nasprsat
yam srivasam bhakta-rajam tam namami punah punah [3]
Immersed in the joy of Sri Gaura’s kirtan, he was unaffected by the
sad departure of his son. Again and again, I bow in obeisance to this Srivas,
king among devotees.
adau vasastu sri-hatte bhagirathyas-tate tatah
kumara-hatte yasyasit sa me gaura-gatir gatih [4]
At first, he resided in Sri Hatta, on the bank of the Bhagirathi Ganges, and
after Gaura left, he went to stay in Kumarhatta.
sri-ramah sri-patischaiva sri-nidhischeti satamah
srivasa-bhrataro jneyah srivasam naumi sad-varam [5]
He is known to be the most venerable among his brothers, Sriram, Sripati and
Srinidhi. I surrender to this Srivas.
pura narada-rupena harinama-sudha-jharaih
yo jagat plavayamasa sa srivaso ’dhuna gatih [6]
As Narad, he previously facilitated the flow of the nectar of the Holy Name,
and now he has come to flood the whole world with it. This Srivas is now my
shelter.
yat-patni malini-devi sri-gaurangam-atosayat
svahasta-pakva-bhaktadyaih sa srivaso gatir mama [7]
My only shelter is Srivas, whose pious spouse, Malini Devi, pleased Lord Sri
Gauranga by cooking for devotees and feeding them with her own hand.
pativad gauranga-gatir malini gauda-visruta
tat-padapadma-savidhe pranatir me sahasrasah [8]
Like her pious husband, Malini was surrendered to Lord Gaura and was renowned
throughout the land of Gauda. I offer thousands of obeisances in the vicinity
of her holy lotus feet.
sri-chaitanya-priyatamam vande srivasa-panditam
yat karunya-kataksena sri-gaurange ratir bhavet [9]
I offer obeisance to Srivas Pandit, who is very dear to Sri Chaitanya
Mahaprabhu, and by whose merciful glance one can attain attachment to Sri
Gauranga.
