Difficult Does Not Mean Impossible
'The problem is that even if people come to this line, they become derailed. Leaving the path of devotion, you end up pursuing all kinds of other paths. The problem is not even on the mental level – the problem is simply greed of your tongues. This is the only reason why you cannot come to this path.'

SRI EKADASI GUIDANCE

Sri Ekadasi Guidance
Guidelines on how to observe and honour this holy day: Ekadasi takes an indispensible part in the life of a sincere practitioner. At Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math, Ekadasi and paran are observed with affection and without fail according to the dates given in the Calendar.

Renunciation of Cowards and Misers
[By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
'What we need is yukta-vairagya: we shall take from the store of Krishna to keep ourselves fit and to do service. It is Krishna's account, and if we do not do that, we will be separatists, mayavadis, renunciationists. We must render maximum service to Krishna, so we must take without any hesitation whatever is necessary to make ourselves fit for the service; otherwise, we shall be punishable.'

"Sri Ekadasi" (Sri Sri Prema Vivarta)
"One day, Gaurahari left the Gundicha Temple and sat in the Jagannath Vallabha garden. It was pure Ekadasi, and the Lord spent the whole day and night chanting the Name of Krishna..."

SONG: Suddha-bhakata | শুদ্ধ ভকত-চরণ-রেণু
"I carefully observe the holy days related to Madhava, they are the mother of devotion."

SONG: Sri hari-vasare | শ্রীহরি-বাসরে হরি
"On the holy day of Sri Hari, Sriman Mahaprabhu, the life and soul of the universe, began dancing..."

All Glory to Sri Sri Guru Gauranga

Divine Appearance Day of Sri Gurupadpadma

Dear Devotees and Well-Wishers:

Humbly bowing down at your holy feet, we are extending to everyone a cordial invitation to observe the grand festival in honour of the holy appearance day of Param-pujyapad Parivrajakacharya-varya Visva-guru Om Vishnupad Sri Srimad Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj that manifests on 6 December 2025 (Saturday) this year.

Remembering the holy lotus feet of our eternal Divine Master, Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj, we pray that every devotee of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math may find a possibility to observe this day immersed in Sri Hari-katha, Hari-kirtan and Hari-seva, which are so extremely dear and pleasing to our Sri Gurupadpadma and entire Guru-varga, and remember the transcendental glories of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, by whose mercy the banner of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math was hoisted to fly high all over the world, through his sincere devotees, instructions, lectures and books.

Taking your footdust on our heads, we humbly wish that this supremely worshippable divine appearance day of Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, celebrated with much joy and grandeur by the fortunate souls throughout the entire manifest creation, may pass auspiciously in every house and heart.

Your aspiring servants,
on behalf of SCSMathInternational.com

Satisfying the Lord
"Bali Maharaj asked Vamanadev, 'O brahman, what do you want? Tell me, and I can give You anything you wish.' Vamanadev replied, 'I do not want much. I know you have everything, but I want only something small.'"

We humbly share the following as general guidance on conducting festivals that we have learned from the association and eternal pastimes of His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj. Generally, the programmes arranged and hosted by Sri Gurupadpadma would go as follows:

Assembling, gathering and welcoming all august Vaishnavs and devotees with obeisances, sweet words and garlands;
A brief introductory opening speech;
Chanting kirtans:

Vandana recital
Sri Guru Parampara kirtan
('Krsna haite chaturmukha')
Sri Gurudev's kirtan
('Gurudev! Krpa bindu diya' or 'Gurudev bada krpa kari')
Sri Pancha-tattva's kirtan
('Sri Krsna Chaitanya Prabhu jive' or 'Sri Krsna Chaitanya daya kara')
Sri Vaishnav Thakur's kirtan
('Kabe Sri Chaitanya more', 'Krpa kara Vaisnava Thakura' or 'Ohe Vaisnava Thakura')
Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's kirtan
('Nitai-guna-mani amar', 'Nitai-pada-kamala' or 'Akrodha paramananda')
Sriman Mahaprabhu's kirtan
('Gaurangera duti pada', 'Parama Karuna' or 'Emana durmati')
Sri Sri Radha Krishna's kirtan
('Jaya Radhe Jaya Krsna' or 'Jaya Radha Madhava')
Hare Krishna Maha-mantra
Class or reading from scriptures (glorification of Sri Gurupadpadma);
If other senior Vaishnavs are present, they are given turn to speak;
Concluding kirtan ('Hari haraye Nama Krsna', Hare Krishna maha-mantra);
Devotees chant kirtan (Guru-arati) and offer puspanjali (flower petals) to the picture of Sri Gurupadapadma;
Offering bhoga followed by arati worship (usually, such programmes take place at noon, so first bhoga arati is chanted, then the arati kirtans);
Distributing prasadam with care and affection;
Presenting daksin and/or auspicious items to senior Vaishnavs or devotees in general;
Affectionate farewell;
Completing cleaning, tidying and other services as required.

From the holy lotus mouth of Sri Gurupadapdma Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj:

"What did Gurudev leave us for? So that we join the festival, give some glorification, take prasadam, and leave? Our service does not finish there. We must distribute to others what Gurudev told all over the world, what Gurudev kept for us—his books, his audio and video recordings. What we invent or discover is not necessary to distribute; distribute what he told, what he invented and discovered, that is sufficient—people will be benefitted through that. That is necessary for us. We should understand what he wanted and what he did not want..."

"Gurudev, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj always wanted to give some prasadam to the devotees, and I saw in Chaitanya-charitamrita, Prapanna-jivanamritam, and even Jagadananda Pandit's Prema-vivarta that if you have something, you must give it to others—if you have no wealth, you can give others some prasadam, and if you have no prasadam, nothing, you can give others sweet words. That is the main thing. You can make others happy with sweet words."

"All the devotees know how to cook, what is there to it? When Nityananda Prabhu is in Ekachakra, He likes roasted and mashed eggplant (begun pora), and when Nityananda Prabhu comes to Venezuela or Colombia, He takes arepa there. What is the problem? Nityananda Prabhu's taste is different—He can take different things from everybody and from everywhere as long as you cook it with heart. The main thing is to serve with heart—not to do anything artificially. When you do any service or cook anything, you must do it with heart, then it will be good for everybody, and then Mahaprabhu, or Krishna, or Nityananda Prabhu will be happy—They will enjoy, and Gurudev will also enjoy. This is the main advice how to do everything. It is necessary for us to understand this."

An extensive guidance on the proper service mood during the Vaishnav seva festivals is kept in the Daily Practice section of the website:

Observing Festivals
A page of the Daily Practice section dedicated to Vaishnav-seva and observing festivals. "Why are you making a festival? Making a festival means you are inviting many people and you are giving them some prasadam, engaging them in Krishna consciousness—it means practising Krishna consciousness."

Note: Some of the many preparations known to be favourite to His Divine Grace Srila B.S. Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj include rice, mung or chana dal, stir-fried karela, sak, posto bora, aloo siddho (boiled potato, mashed with chilli and salt), cauliflower pakoras, singara (samosa), mixed vegetable subji, paneer rasa, tomato chutney, achar (pickle), avocado salad (with a little salt and olive oil), cucumber salad, mango, paramanna (sweet rice), rasagullas, sandesh, a cake, vanilla ice-cream.

Distribute Krishna Consciousness!
"There are so many people suffering in this world: they, too, are searching for the main source; they, too, are searching for the hidden treasure. They wait for somebody to come and distribute it to them. Go and distribute this hidden treasure to everyone!"

(2.6) FORTUNATE INDEED
'We are so fortunate that we have many things, now it is the time to use that “property” properly. I heard from Srila Guru Maharaj the phrase, “religion is proper adjustment.” Everything has been given but it is necessary for us to make proper adjustment: to understand who we are; what our duty is; who is Krishna, and who is His servitor.'

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Two, chanted on Sundays)
'Very tall, beautiful and infused with divine love, His holy form increases gods’ joy; the lustre of His body, which puts millions of golden lotuses to shame, is worshipped by the Moon; and His intrinsic form is a holy abode of divine pastimes manifest as eternal ever-increasing transcendental ecstatic transformations that spring up as He revels dancing in Sri Krishna-sankirtan – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Wasted Time – Wasted Life
'You do not understand it now. You think, "I will live more!", "I will eat more!" but can any of you be sure that you are not going to leave this world tomorrow or this very moment? Even when you get old, you still think that you have much time. As the result, you have no time for the Lord or to chant the Holy Name of the Lord.'

Offering Bhoga on Ekadasi
"Sometimes, devotees live in their houses – if they offer rice, dal or khichuri on ekadasi, how will they take it? They do not want to throw away food, so they do not offer grains on this day. However, if it is a temple with Deities, then we must offer everything, both ekadasi and non-ekadasi preparations."

In honour of the forthcoming divine appearance day of His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj:

• DIGNITY OF THE DIVINE SERVITOR •

(3.1) THE WRITTEN WORD
'All over the world Srila Guru Maharaj arranged the fire sacrifice of sankirtan and we are the ingredients to fuel the flames of that fire, but if we hide ourselves from there then that is not real saving, but that is suiciding. That is, everything is transcendentally arranged there and therefore we cannot feel the burning sensation. Only we can feel the transcendental joyful nourishment of the mood of sacrifice.'

(3.2) JEWELS
'Sankirtan means that all together we are chanting the Holy Names and offering service whole-heartedly to our Divine Master and our Lord. Krishna only looks at this qualification and no other. Each one is like an auspicious stick of wood fully dedicating himself for the exaltation of Srila Guru Maharaj by entering into the sankirtan fire sacrifice. These sticks are burning happily because they do not receive pain, only purification. It is my only prayer to you all that you must look to this central Math where there is continuous service to the Deities and Srila Guru Maharaj as well as the living sankirtan fire sacrifice which is always continuing here.'

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Four, chanted on Tuesdays)
'Overcome with strong bouts of divine love surging through Him and becoming unconscious of the world around Him, He dances madly and chants kirtan; the tears streaming incessantly from His eyes flood His body, the colour of molten gold and tall as the mount Sumeru, His clothes, the colour of the newly risen sun, and the earth in all fourteen directions around Him; He glows as He chants, ‘Krishna! Krishna!’, shouts jumbled up words and relishes various postures and behaviours (roaring with laughter, etc.) under the influence of divine love – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Be Conscious, Be Good
'If you have no devotion, what will mantras do? Do you think that if you just recite some mantra, this is worship? Worship is done through devotion. When people come to take initiation, they do many things, but that is all external. The main thing is that devotion must come to your hearts. But if devotion decides to come to your hearts, where will it stay?'

PUBLISHER'S NOTE
'The first publication of this Sri Chaitanya Saraswati—The Voice of Sri Chaitanyadev was in 1990. It has taken four years to bring out this second edition. With interruptions, it has been about two years in the making...'

INTRODUCTION
'Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj appeared in the world in 1929 at Brahmanpara, District Burdwan, West Bengal. He came to the lotus feet of his Gurudev Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj in 1947, and remained faithfully in his service ever since...'

OUR FORTUNATE ASSOCIATION
'It is my special conception that of both the Gurus, one is as avatara [incarnation], and one is as avatari [origin of all Incarnations]. Actually, Mahaprabhu came as yuga-avatara, and Srila Swami Maharaj came like a yuga-avatara preacher. But within Mahaprabhu there was another form. So I can see Srila Swami Maharaj and Srila Guru Maharaj in a nondifferent way—one form as an avatara, another as avatari. You all know that Guru Maharaj gave us the finest conception, and Srila Swami Maharaj made all the arrangements—he arranged for the recipients of Krishna consciousness; he made the ground and the field, and he planted the seed; he gave the chance.'

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Five, chanted on Wednesdays)
'He reveals (first, to Sri Sanatan and then to Prakasananda) sixty-two interpretations of the famous verse ‘Atmaramas cha… ittham-bhuta-guno harih’ (‘Even self-realised, self-satisfied souls are moved to worship the Lord’) from Srimad Bhagavatam; interpreting the various lexical meanings of the eleven words of this verse, juxtaposed in different ways, He reveals a treasure-mine of multitudinous meanings of this verse in consonance with the precepts of pure devotional conclusions – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Truth and Untruth
'We live as slaves of Maya, but she has no mercy on us! We have been serving Maya for so long, we have been getting so much lashing from her, but she has never taken any pity on us! Now somehow we have got some sadhu-sanga and we have come to our senses...'

Be Strong and Straight
"When you live at the temple, you engage only in sravan and kirtan, you take prasadam; and when you live in your houses, you must engage yourselves in the same way. Even if you live as householders, you should still do everything that we do at the temple."

AWAKENING OUR HEARTS TO ETERNAL JOY
'We have seen many things in this mundane world. If we try to realize for ourselves what is good and what is bad, we shall also understand. It won’t be necessary to take help from outside. Still, that is not sufficient for our human life. We need even more than that, and that is Krishna consciousness, enquiry after God.'

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Six, chanted on Thursdays)
'Captivated by and afflicted with an intense feeling of separation, He runs swiftly to the simha-dvara gate of Lord Jagannathdev’s holy temple; the next moment He falls down on the spot, His holy figure transformed into that of a tortoise by the influence of deep separation; attracted by the uncommon divine fragrance emanating from His holy figure, the Telangi cows residing at the temple draw near, surrounding Him – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Bound by Affection
His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj reflects on the events that surrounded his first days at Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math at the lotus feet of His Divine Master, Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj. This talk was given on 9 May 1998, 50 years after the event, here at the Math.

Gurudev, the Incarnation of Srimati Radharani
'This year, 25 December 2007 is the 79th Appearance Day of our Gurupadpadma Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj. On this day of Sri Guru Puja we are praying at his lotus feet that we may be proper disciples and obey His Divine Grace’s instruction and be secure in service.'

Sri Guru Prasastih
'Our Divine Master, Sri Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, has made you the helmsman of the world for the sake of such fallen, degraded souls as me. So, on the auspicious day of your appearance, there is no other refuge for me other than your feet – this fallen soul is crying and begging you for mercy.'

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part One, chanted on Saturdays)
'Demigods, perfected souls, liberated souls, yogis and Lord’s devotees always sing His praise; He relieves the world from the blazing forest fire of three-fold miseries (caused by the desire for enjoyment, liberation and perfections) brought about by inauspicious actions (performed in aversion to the Supreme Lord); an ocean of generosity, He bestows His own Name from the nectarean storehouse of Lord Sri Krishna’s Names – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Question: It seems that we have one type of fear that having got some connection with your self we may lose that at death. I do not want to have connection with anyone else, I want to stay with you. So, I feel some type of fear...

Srila B.S. Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj: Fear? But why have fear? I cannot understand it.

Devotee: Because if we do not finish our sadhana nicely, then next life we do not know where we will go—we may not find Govinda Maharaj there.

Srila Govinda Maharaj: What do you think about Govinda Maharaj?

Devotee: We think that we want to serve you.

Srila Govinda Maharaj: No, it is okay that you want to serve Govinda Maharaj, but what do you think about Govinda Maharaj? He is your guru, but in which form do you think about him? Do you think that Govinda Maharaj is a mundane man or an incarnation of the Lord coming in front of you to give you connection with Him? If you think he is an incarnation of the Lord, then he cannot leave your heart and you cannot leave your Lord. Even if you die, you will get that connection in another form, perhaps, but you will not be able to leave your Lord. When you have faith that the Lord always lives with you, then there will be no fear.

That is the main thing. By the mercy of Vaishnavs I also always feel that my Srila Guru Maharaj (Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj) is present with us. By the mercy of Vaishnavs and the supremacy of Srila Guru Maharaj, such feeling always comes to us that Srila Guru Maharaj has not left us, that he is with us.

I have service of Srila Guru Maharaj, and I must do that. Service to Srila Guru Maharaj is my only goal of life, and whichever way that service comes to me, I will try to serve.

Devotee: In my next life, I want to forever be a blade of grass wherever you walk...

Srila Govinda Maharaj: I do not want to wait for the next life. Actually, we must finish all our job here this life, then we shall all go to Goloka!

Gurudev's Appearance
"Today is 1 January, the first day of the year, and this is the day of my Gurupadpadma Om Vishnupad Jagad Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj's appearance. Choosing this holy dvitiya tithi day, Gurudev appeared in this world 92 years ago."

Gurudev's Coming to Temple
"One day, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj's preaching party came to Nadanghat on their way back from preaching. They did collection during the day, and in the evening they would give a class and chant kirtans at the house of some zamindar. When they came to Nadanghat, Gurudev came and sat at the programme, listening to the Hari-katha."

Perfect Adherence
"Within seven days after Guru Maharaj's coming to the temple, Srila Sridhar Maharaj told him, 'Do not follow what your mind tells you. You must do only what I tell you. Never do what your mind tells you to do.' Remember this."

Who Is Guru?
"Guru is the one whom the Lord has invested all his power. Once you get the mercy of the Guru, you will get all mercy. If Krishna bestows His mercy on any fortunate soul, then Guru teaches that soul everything in his omniscient (antaryami) form."

"These are desires or your tongue and mind! The souls never wants all this, but we are so greedy that we think that our mind and our soul are one and the same. People do not understand what is mind and what is the soul..."

Deceivers and Deceived
"If somebody lives in enjoyment, is foolish (ignorant of what one's duty is and what must not do) and lives following any other path except pure devotion, then even if this person is called a guru (in name only), it is the order of the scriptures that he must be given up."

Satiating Hunger
"We have no attachment or love for what the great souls say. We only want food! What is the need to come to the temple for that? Come as a Beggar
"Anyhow, much has been said today. I would like to read one article written by Srila Prabhupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. Actually, no matter how many times I tell about it, it does not help... You must all listen to what Srila Prabhupad says."

Grand and Joyous Festival
"I am very happy because the festival was very successful. Actually, we have seen such crowds before only in Gurudev's time in Nabadwip, and now is the first time we see it again at this Vyasa Puja festival of Srila Gurudev in 2021. Everybody is very happy with this festival."

Protecting Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math
"I have seen how Gurudev protects his temple, Srila Sridhar Maharaj's temple. In one sense, I am very unfortunate because I tried so hard to protect Gurudev's mission after Gurudev but could not do it. In another way, at least I could protect Gurudev's devotees."

Unblemished Sacrifice

Sun, 7 December 2025 (Festival in Bamunpara)

Seva-Vigraha
'Although the Lord comes personally for us, He also sends His close associate as a guru. By chanting his glories, by always thinking about him we can come to the Lord. If we can get Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's mercy, Sri Baladev's mercy, then we can enter His eternal domain. Always remember these things – these are not just some words.'

Today in the calendar: Krishna Tritiya. Festivals at Bamunpara and Nadan Ghat, the places of Srila B.S. Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj's appearance and youth pastimes.

"We should always check the calendar, and when we see some dates mentioned there, even if we do not know anything about the Vaishnav or events mentioned there, we can at least give 'jay' to them—that also brings some good sukriti, some purification to us. Seeing the calendar and taking devotees' names early in the morning, from the beginning of the day, is very good for all devotees."

Memorable Day In Bamunpara
"One morning Gurudev went to Bamunpara. Only Gurudev, his driver, me, and Gurudev's servant who cooked for him, went at that time. That day, Gurudev showed me that place in Bamunpara where Mahaprabhu passed after taking sannyas..."

Learn to Tolerate
"Life is very short and life is very uncertain – so many problems will come, but we will not bow our heads down at the lotus feet of Maya Devi. We must do our service properly. So many problems come – you will have to face so many things – but it is necessary to tolerate everything."

(1) AFFECTION
'We need good association. Then affection will grow. Otherwise, the fitness will not come for us to progress in the higher plane. First, a relationship will come through association, and when a relationship is formed affection may come. It is first necessary to have a relationship with Guru and Vaishnava, the devotee of God; otherwise affection cannot be ours.'

Rules of Love
'Lord Ramachandra is a righteous person dedicated to moral rules and obligations. But when it comes to the service to the Lord, there are no such moral rules. Remember this. Moral obligations, sense of duty, etc. have no value in the service of the Lord.'

Blessings and Guidance of Srila Prabhupad (spoken at the time of his departure)
'I have caused anxiety to many people because I was bound to tell the truth candidly; because I have told to practise Krishna consciousness without deceit, many people may even consider me their enemy. To become eager to sincerely serve Lord Krishna, leaving all other desires and deceit, I have caused various anxiety to many people. Some day or another they will understand what I am saying.'

Love for Gaudiya
"We pray that your practice, behaviour, language, taste, moral regulations and religious faith become aligned with the precepts of Gaudiya. Please gradually give up non-gaudiya elements within your Gaudiya identity and show the ideal of Gaudiya to the entire world. May you not mutilate the paramount ideal of the Gaudiya precepts by coveting to participate in that which is not Gaudiya."

Sri Bhakti Siddhanta Vani
A quote of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupad that is printed and hung on the wall at the veranda of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj: "If someone does not consider it necessary to faithfully follow their Guru and the Vaishnavs, their endeavour to serve the Lord is not service to the Lord—it is service to maya."

Today in the calendar: Krishna Chaturthi. Festival in honour of the disappearance of Bhagavan Sri Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupad.

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila B.N. Acharya Maharaj: "Even if you do not know anything about the Vaishnav mentioned in the calendar, you must still give them 'jay' on this day. We must always remember disappearance and appearance days of all Vaishnavs. If we can remember such personalities, such great souls, it will bring a great benefit to our spiritual life. If you remember the glories of Vaishnavs, if you speak about the glories of Vaishnavs, they can rescue you from all kinds of material bondage. We have heard a hundred times that if we glorify Vaishnavs, it gives great benefit, but even though we have heard it a thousand times, how much are we able to glorify Vaishnavs from our heart? How much can we serve Vaishnavs with heart and soul? This is the question."

In honour of Bhagavan Sri Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupad:

sri-siddhanta-sarasvatiti vidito gaudiya-gurv-anvaye

krsna-prema-sudhabdhi-gahana-sukham pradat prabhum tam bhaje
'I worship my Lord, who is known as Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur in the preceptorial succession of gurus in the Gaudiya line. Like a radiant sun, his sankirtan (glorification) of Gauranga Mahaprabhu illuminates the sky, breaking the darkness of the night. He extricates souls out of illusion – out of the belly of a monstrous whale-devouring timingila creature – and grants them the happiness of diving and bathing in the pure ocean of divine love for Lord Krishna.'

On Srila Prabhupad's Disappearance [by Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
"It happened at the meeting point between the two years. So many disciples from all over India flocked then, everybody came in pain and weeping mood. The whole small area of the samadhi was full, everybody was crying and weeping...."

(2) GOING DEEPER
'We must try to avoid Vaishnava-aparadha, and then we can succeed with everything else in our spiritual life. For our real goal of life we must cross over Viraja. At present our universe is actually floating in Viraja. But beyond Viraja and Brahman also is Paravyoma, or the transcendental world. The question always arises here—can we achieve it or not? But we can.'

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Three, chanted on Mondays)
'He ardently preached that service performed in various divine relationships (from dasya-, sakhya-, vatsalya- to madhura-rasa) and the (paramount) service beauty of Sri Radha’s servitors in the highest paramour madhura-rasa, as well as any transcendental hankering of the self-realised souls in Sri Vraja Dham, can indisputably be realised in Sri Vrajendra-nandan only – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Do Not Take This Birth for Granted

Life beyond Renunciation
[By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
'The highest law is that you must not leave anything but try to utilise everything for His service. You are a servant. You are to serve, and there are many objects through which you are to serve. It is abnormal to try to exploit or enjoy a particular thing or to cast it off hatefully thinking that it will harm me. Both are artificial.'

FOREWORD
'It is our hope that the readers of this small booklet will approach the contents with an attitude of humble submission and an open heart. And we pray that their attachment to the lotus feet of Sri Guru may be increased.'

(1) SIKSA GURU
'Herein, we find the history of a transcendental relationship between these two pure devotees of the Lord. Throughout his life, Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj always maintained the highest respect and confidence in Sridhar Maharaj. He considered that whenever it was not possible for his disciples to proceed directly under his guidance, that they should take direction from Sridhar Maharaj.'

Exclusive Conception of Srila Prabhupad's Line
[By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
'Our Prabhupad did not allow these things. Do your duty on your plane, and what you deserve will come to you naturally. That was his instruction all through, not only temporarily but all through. Do not go to be a disbeliever, very eager to see the final result; otherwise, you will get Maya instead of Yogamaya.'

(3) TRANSCENDENTAL WORLD
'If Bhagavan says, “I like fried potato” and I give Him fried potato, He will be satisfied. It is not necessary to think out what will satisfy Him if He tells us what He likes. So this is the directive of Bhagavan, the Supreme Lord. He is telling you what to do—do this, do that. This is bhagavat-dharma.'

Sweetness in Bitterness
'There is much more happiness and irresistible attraction in separation. This can also be seen at the time when Krishna left Vrindavan and went to Dvaraka. When I was telling you about guru-tattva, I mentioned that Kuruksetra is the place where the highest devotion to the guru can be seen.'

Renunciation of Renunciation
[By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
"To abnegate and cut off our connection with the environment is not our object. Our object is, rather, to utilise everything for the service of the Lord. Why should we eliminate anything? Why should we disregard anything? We must not denounce, reject or dishonour things. We must use them properly, with reverence, then they will draw benefit from me and bring benefit for me. Environment can help me earn more, then why should I reject my environment and all its paraphernalia? Rather, they should excite me."

Qualification for Chanting Holy Name
"In this Age of Kali, except for chanting the Holy Name, there is no other way, no other way, no other way. Who has the right, or qualification, to chant the Holy Name? Who can chant it? It is written very beautifully."

(2) PRABHUPADA PRANAMA
'Although outwardly he was like a lion, inwardly he was very very sweet, yet it could be traced only in his internal sweetness. After his departure I described his life in one sloka. If he were living today, I think he would say, “Sridhar Maharaj has imprisoned me in a cage of poetry.”'

(3) BRAHMA-GAYATRI
'The meaning of the brahma-gayatri-mantra must bring us to the conclusion of Srimad Bhagavatam. The gayatri-mantra and Srimad Bhagavatam are one and the same. It is the very gist of the Vedanta-sutra. The meaning of the gayatri-mantra must be in the line of Srimad Bhagavatam. If we analyze how this is possible, we shall uncover the steps between them.'

Scope of Sacrifice
[By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
"This is the universe discovered by Vaishnavs. It has been brought down to the experience of the senses by the Vaishnavs from above, and it is realised through revelation, "There is a domain of such a conception, and if you like it, you can come by such-and-such way. You are welcome. There is a domain of extreme self-abnegation. This is the country where such persons live – if you would like to be a resident of that land, then come.""

'We are confident that this Guardian of Devotion will provide sweet water for the devotees the world over to nourish, sustain, fortify, and protect their creepers of devotion and graciously guide them ever upward to the holy lotus abode of Goloka Vrindavan.'

DECLARATION OF THE SPIRITUAL SUCCESSION
'According to the desire of my Divine Master, I have been maintaining this disciplic succession but it is no longer possible for me, as I am now too old and invalid. You all know that from long ago I have chosen Sriman Bhakti Sundar Govinda Maharaj and I have given him sannyasa. I have previously given to him the charge of the Math and now I am giving him the full responsibility of giving Harinama, diksa, sannyasa etc, as the acharya of this Math on behalf of myself.'

COMPLETE DEDICATION
'Quality is necessary, indispensable in Krishna consciousness. Not partial dedication, but in connection with Krishna, the dedication must be of the whole self, nothing less. The demand from an autocrat is categorically different. Krishna is not satisfied with any partial service. He wants to swallow the whole thing, not less than that.'

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Seven, chanted on Fridays)
'He is a holy embodiment of the beautiful reality which is beyond the reach of one’s eyes and ears, which paralyses the very necessity of intelligence and which leaves even firmly fixed consciousness dumbstruck when divine love surges up – even Brahma, Sambhu (Siva), as well as their revealed scriptures, Vedas and tantras cannot conceive of such reality, so they merely keep searching after Him – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Journey from Misguidance to Absolute Guidance
[By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
"It is possible to connect with Him only through surrender, and it will be He who will decide how He will best suit you. Let Him decide it. 'Hare Krishna' is not a prayer for anything; it is only an address, 'O Hare Krishna, I want You. You please consider and decide what will suit me. I only want you. I am in danger, and I want Your protection; how you will protect me is to be decided by You, it is not my business.' By embracing His consideration is where we gain the most. We must only try to increase, if possible, the degree of our surrender. That is what is actually necessary from us."

'We can approach the Supreme Lord only through submission, and when we achieve Him, we won’t care for knowing anything else. We will have no regard for what is happening or not happening in the outside world. We will deeply engage in His service for His satisfaction.'

'I am praying for your blessings so that I could, with the blessings and mercy of all the Vaishnavs, always live engaged in guru-seva and serve you all. I do not want anything in this world. I have no desires. I only wish to always live engaged in the service to my Gurudev and all the Vaishnavs.'

Remembering Guru-Varga
"Today is the grand annual festival in honour of establishing the temple and the inauguration anniversary of Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Gandharva Radha-Raman. Many of you know that our Guru-varga Pujyapad Srila Bhakti Kiran Giri Maharaj stayed at the house of Sripad Ramanath Prabhu here, near Bankura."

THE ONLY ENJOYER
'One gentlemen came to enquire, “What do you mean by this expression?” “But what I mean there is clear.” The man responded, “Then where is our position?” “You have no position.” A clear answer. None is to enjoy but Krishna. That is reserved for Him only.'

Preaching Life
'It is the duty of everyone of you to preach about Gurudev. Just as Gurudev preached about his Guru Maharaj, Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, all over the world, you, too, must go village to village and preach about your Guru Maharaj. Preaching is the main thing for everybody.'

Maya's Test
[By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
Question: When we start chanting the maha-mantra Hare Krishna, it seems that in the beginning we get more realisation, more of the mantra, whereas as time goes it seems more and more difficult. Many devotees have mentioned that they have this feeling that it becomes more difficult. Why does this happen?

Today in the calendar: Krishna Ekadasi. No fast. Disappearance of Srila Devananda Pandit (an associate in Sriman Mahaprabhu's pastimes) and Srimad Bhakti Prakas Aranya Maharaj (a diksa and sannyas disciple of Srila Prabhupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur).

In honour of Srila Devananda Pandit:

Learn Proper Conception
"Sometimes we can unconsciously make an offence, but through good association we can hear and understand the proper guidance, proper etiquette. If we do not know it, then no matter how much we practise, how much we chant and how much service we do, we can still sometimes be doing some aparadh."

Learn to Give Honour
"Without thinking, we write something, we do something, we think something, and we consider that what we think is the highest. This is Vaishnav aparadh. You must learn to give honour to others. Even if the person is junior, even if they do not know anything, we must learn to give honour to others."

"For example, people invite us to programmes, and sometimes we do not like to take prasad from the hands of certain people, but if we refuse to take it, the host will be dissatisfied, so we have to taste a little. Sometimes, it is necessary to do this."

THE WAVE OF LOVE
'Now we are distracted and have many different interests, but if we can put God’s interest in the center, then we shall be able to find, to read, that from all directions only good news is coming to me—no bad or unfavorable news. So, readjustment is necessary.'

One-Pointed Happy Life
'We leave everything to the Lord and rely only on Him – however He keeps me, whatever He makes me do, I will live like that. Those of you who have taken initiation should pay more attention to your spiritual lives. Become members of Krishna's family. This is what I want for you all.'

'You Are Mine'
[By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
"He is there. Whom you are searching for is there, and none can make a monopoly. Why should we be disappointed? It is all for the best. Everything comes to help us. Blame yourself for your past activity. Do not waste your energy on blaming others and throwing mud in the face of others. It is only a waste of your energy. Not only stop blaming the circumstances but learn to appreciate that it is He who is at the back of it all. He is all-love. I am searching what is my fate, what is my fortune, so I have come to find Him, and He is not a stone, not an ignorant infinite, but a conscious and loving, merciful infinite. I am surrounded by Him. Why should I be rejected?"

Today in the calendar: Krishna Dvadasi. Fast on Paksa-Vardhini Mahadvadasi. Disappearance of Sripad Bhakti Bhudev Srauti Maharaj (a diksa and sannyas disciple of Srila Prabhupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur).

THE KRISHNA CONCEPTION OF DIVINITY
'The Krishna conception of divinity is so irresistible that even Krishna Himself becomes overwhelmed by His own potency and is madly engaged in tasting His own sweetness, ecstatically dancing, and thereby distributing that sweetness to others.'

PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE
'The original pure consciousness is a universally orientated one. We have lost sight of the universal interest, the real center of our lives. We are, in fact, but part of a larger organic whole. It is not a fossilized, static environment that can be recorded in so many scientific books.'

Be Courageous
[By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
"We must not be disappointed. We must have courage. We must face everything courageously and well-meaning in our thoughts, words, and deeds. Srimad Bhagavatam comes to teach us to face any danger, any adverse circumstance with this spirit. This should be our real spirit when facing trouble, then we will get relief very soon, we will not have to wait long."

Today in the calendar: Krishna Trayodashi. Disappearance of Srila Mahesh Pandit and Srila Uddharan Das Thakur (both are great followers of Sriman Nityananda Prabhu).

How much can we serve Vaishnavs with heart and soul? This is the question."

In honour of Srila Uddharan Das Thakur:

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur writes in his Anubhasya, "The Gaura-ganoddesa-dipika (129) states that Uddharan Datta Thakur was formerly the cowherd boy of Vrindavan named Subahu. Uddharan Datta Thakur, previously known as Sri Uddharan Datta, was a resident of Saptagram, which is situated on the bank of the Sarasvati River near the Trisabigha railway station in the district of Hooghly.

"In Sri Chaitanya-bhagavata, Antya-khanda, Chapter Five, it is said that Uddharan Datta was an extremely elevated and liberal Vaishnav. He was born with the right to worship Nityananda Prabhu. It is also stated that Nityananda Prabhu, after staying for some time in Khadadaha, came to Saptagram and stayed in the house of Uddharan Datta.

"In Saptagrama there is still a temple with a six-armed Deity of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu that was personally worshiped by Srila Uddharan Datta Thakur. On the right side of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is a Deity of Sri Nityananda Prabhu, and on the left side is Gadadhar Prabhu. Uddharan Datta Thakur was the manager of the estate of a big zamindar in Naihati, about one and a half miles north of Katwa. The relics of this royal family are still visible near the Daiìhata station. Since Uddharan Datta Thakur was the manager of the estate, it was also known as Uddharan-pur. Uddharan Datta Thakur installed Nitai-Gaura Deities that were later brought to the house of the zamindar, which was known as Vanaoyaribada. Srila Uddharan Datta Thakur remained a householder throughout his life. His father's name was Srikara Datta, his mother's name was Bhadravati, and his son's name was Srinivas Datta."

(From a purport to Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita,
by Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj Prabhupad)

Sri Uddharan Datta Thakur and Sri Vakreshwar Pandit
"(1) Sri Uddharan Datta Thakur was a great Vaishnav, maha-bhagavat, and he always worshiped and served Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's lotus feet. (2) The birthplace of Sri Vakreshwar Pandit is in Guptipara, near Kalna. Sri Vakreshwar Pandit always danced during Mahaprabhu's kirtans—he was a great singer and dancer."

In honour of Srila Mahesh Pandit:

"Mahesh Pandit, the seventh of the twelve gopals, was very liberal. Like a madman, he danced to the beating of a kettledrum in great love for Krishna."

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur writes in his Anubhasya, "The village of Mahesh Pandit, which is known as Palapad, is situated in the district of Nadia within a forest about one mile south of the Chakadaha railway station. It is mentioned that Mahesh Pandit joined the festival performed by Sri Nityananda Prabhu at Panihati. Narottam Das Thakur also joined in the festival, and Mahesh Pandit saw Him on that occasion. In the temple of Mahesh Pandit there are Deities of Gaura-Nityananda, Sri Gopinath, Sri Madana-mohan and Radha-Govinda, as well as a salagrama-sila."

A Hole In Surrender
"By the will of the Lord, everything is good – but there is only one shortage. There is a lack of service with firm determination We are doing so much service, but instead of devotion, our efforts turn into karma-misra bhakti. SERVICE TO GURU
'Throughout our lives, we have developed our skills, developed our mental capacity through knowledge, and now we shall have to develop our feeling capacity, our sentiency, our giving tendency through service. This is the meaning of surrender. Yet, Sri Guru is not asking for this—he is not asking for what I can give. He is asking for what I cannot give, what I myself don’t even know I have. He wants that.'

MARCHING ON TO GLORY
'Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj has clearly pointed out that the main problem of everyone is how to discard our internal hankering for anything other than Krishna and His servitors. The infinite road towards the realm of love and beauty, where the Divine Lord Sri Krishna can be found enjoying with His most confidential associates, is not one covered with flowers.'

Temples Are Not Temporal
'Gurudev did not keep me here so that I can live among non-devotees, demons or amidst fighting. All these fights and squabbles are not good. If Vaishnavs behave like this, what will other people learn from them? You will go for preaching and bring new people to the temple, but when they come to the temple and see all this fighting, will it not crush them spiritually?'

Soul-Deep Cultivation
[By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
"We must be very careful about the depth of our cultivation. What we do must come from within, from the core of our hearts, from the very essence of our existence. We must be very mindful of this. This is not lip-deep but heart-deep – we must reach the plane where we are, where the man (the soul) is, then our innermost thirst can be quenched."

We noticed that no sooner he had got into the train, the first thing he did was to discover two young sadhus.'

"All our senses should be applied in inviting Krishna and avoiding the present situation.

Origin of Bhagavatam (3)

(2) PERFECT CONCLUSIONS OF THE SCRIPTURES
'In India there are a thousand-and-one so-called religions. But the sincere and thoughtful must embrace the highest path of all, the path of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, which teaches, simultaneously from the standpoint of ontology as well as full-fledged theism, the attainment of divine love based on the science of faith.'

(3) UNIVERSAL CONCEPTION OF GURU
'The scriptures in general present a very broad and universal conception of Sri Guru, laying stress on the spiritual substance—that divine current of nectar that flows down to this plane from the highest domain through the inspiration that is found in the heart of a real Vaishnava. To deny divine revelation through another agent in the name of being chaste to one’s guru can be offensive and even suicidal.'

(4) VAISHNAVA SIDDHANTA: SERVING THE VAISHNAVAS
'With surrender to the Lord as one’s guardian, we finally come to know who is who, and who to really love and serve. Full surrender of body, mind and words establishes us in our real position and then our God consciousness becomes Krishna consciousness.'

Burning Burden
'You have heard so many material, useless talks with these ears! Having become a gross materialist attached to your hearth and home, you have been roaming around listening to all kinds of things. Lend your ear just once to listen to the holy talks emanating from the holy mouths of sadhus and see what happens.'

Today in the calendar: Gaura Tritiya. Disappearance of Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu and Srila Jagadis Pandit.

In honour of Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu:

—: Pranam mantra of Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu :—

yah sankhya-pankena kutarka-pamsuna
vivarta-gartena cha lupta-didhitim
suddham vyadhad vak-sudhaya mahesvaram
krsnam sa jivah prabhur astu me gatih

"With his nectarean teachings, Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu revealed the Supreme Lord, Krishna, whose effulgence had been hidden by the quicksand of calculation, the dust storm of fallacious logic, and the ditch of illusionism. May he be my shelter."

—Sri Baladev Vidyabhusan

Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu
"I have no power to say what kind of devotion to his Guru Jiva Goswami had. Jiva Goswami's service cannot be compared to anyone's service. Whatever order he would get, he would place it on his head and do it all the time—his mind never went to any other place."

Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu: The All-Rounder

Protected Journey
Srila B.S. Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj explains the pranam-mantra of Srila Jiva Goswami in the book Dignity of the Divine Servitor: "I offer my full dandavats unto the lotus feet of Srila Jiva Goswami who is the protector of our spiritual life. He rescues us from the whole illusory environment..."

About Sri Jagadish Pandit:

Sri Jagadish Pandit
"Born in Guwahati, Assam, Sri Jagadish Pandit came to live in Nabadwip. Sri Jagadish Pandit and Hiranya lived together on the bank of the Gages near Sri Jagannath Misra's house, and Mahaprabhu would often come to visit them."
Download / listen to the audio (4.5 Mb, 11 min | 24 January 2021)

"Jagadish Pandit was formerly a great dancer in Krishna-lila and was known as Chandrahasa. He belonged to the village of Yasada-gram, in the district of Nadia near the Chakadaha railway station. His father, the son of Bhatta Narayan, was named Kamalaksa. Both his father and mother were great devotees of Lord Visnu, and after their death, Jagadish, with his wife Duhkhini and brother Mahesa, left his birthplace and came to Sri Mayapur to live in the company of Jagannath Misra and other Vaisnavas. Lord Chaitanya asked Jagadish to go to Jagannath Puri to preach the Harinam sankirtan movement. After returning from Jagannath Puri, on the order of Lord Jagannath he established Deities of Jagannath in the village of Yasada-gram."

"Sri Jagadish is described in the Gaura-ganoddesa-dipika (192) as follows: 'Sri Jagadish and Hiranya previously appeared as the wives of the yajnic brahmans of Vraja. The Lord asked for the grains they offered to Vishnu on the day of Ekadasi. Chandrahasa, the expert dancer and knower of the mellows of Vraja, has now appeared as Sri Jagadish Pandit.' Sri Nityananda Prabhu with His associates are the life and wealth of the most effulgent Sri Jagadish Pandit."

Jagadish Pandit and Hiranya Pandit—lived in Godrumadwip. Their house was some distance from the Lord's house. On the day of Ekadasi they arranged a large offering for the Lord. The injunction for fasting on Ekadasi is meant only for the living entities, but Lord Vishnu is beyond the jurisdiction of the rules and regulations that He has established. Since He is not bound to observe fast on Ekadasi, and since He alone is the enjoyer of all sacrificial offerings, all types of foodstuffs should be offered to Him on Ekadasi. On the day of Ekadasi the Vaisnavs give up all kinds of enjoyment and do not accept the injunction for honoring prasada as on other days, but Lord Sri Hari, the protector of the devotees, accepts the foodstuffs offered by His devotees on His day, Hari-vasara. Sri Gaura-Narayan also revealed His desire to eat those foodstuffs.

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Sri Chaitanya-bhagavata)

No Other Shelter
"One time, when Nimai was three-four years old, He showed He was sick, and was crying so much. It was an Ekadasi day. His mother, Sachi Mata, asked Him, 'What has happened?' Nimai said, 'I want to go to Hiranya-Jagadish's house!'"

Lacking or Slacking?
"Gurudev knows everything, he knows what one does or does not do. He can understand everything. How many days do you think gurudev will tolerate your faulty service? Why does service go away? The answer is only one – you must think, ‘It is my own fault. I have made some offence to service, that is why the Lord has taken this service from me.’"

(5) EXPLOITATION, RENUNCIATION, DEDICATION
'Our Guru Maharaja came to spread this sort of knowledge and we came hankering. Hungrily we felt ourselves looking for such things. Still I am engaged in that sort of quest, and that should be the real life for any and all who are in this mundane world. There should not be any other quest or any other engagement. There should be nothing of the kind. Then that will be real life.'

Feeling Hungry?
"O foolish mind! What kind of beggar are you? What do you lack? Foolish mind, if, overcome by the desire to enjoy, you see maha-prasad as just some food meant to bring you enjoyment or happiness, then you will only get the result of eating! Why do you need to come to the temple for that?"

(6) FAITH IN THE ABSOLUTE
'Why should we run after a phantasmagoria? It seems that apparently we are searching after something imaginary, leaving behind the concrete world, but this world is not the concrete reality. We have to understand that this is not substantial. Everyone is here for some time and then they are passing away. So, if we want to conquer death, then we have to seek that inner world where this body may not go; this mind will not be utilized there.'

"Merry Christmas"
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj is speaking on the Christmas day in 2006: "You must give honour to wherever there is some piety and religious manifestation. (7) THE SPIRITUAL MASTER AND THE DISCIPLE
'One should approach the spiritual master for general guidance, to get the proper standpoint in life. That is the most important thing we can get from guru. The standpoint we get from our ordinary lives may come from anywhere and everywhere, but that may mislead us and misguide us. So we must be very particular about getting the proper direction.'

Strive and Thrive

Determination and Surrender
"Unless you become fully surrendered, the Lord will not hear your prayer. People pray to the Lord because they have some desire, but we do not think, 'What makes the Lord happy?' We must do everything for Krishna's happiness."

(8) SARANAGATI
'No process of service can be perfect without saranagati, and certainly there can be no entrance into the higher domain. As such, saranagati is the very life and essence of devotion. It must be present in every form of service. Without saranagati our devotion will only be an imitation of service, not devotion proper. It will only be a lifeless activity.'

Immerse Yourself in Kirtan
'Do you know what service pleases Mahaprabhu most of all? Sankirtan-yajna: the sacrifice of congregational chanting. We must serve Mahaprabhu with sankirtan-yajna. The more kirtan you can chant, the more mercy the Lord will bestow on you. Therefore, it is necessary to chant kirtan as much as possible.'

(9) THE CENTRAL IMPORTANCE OF SADHU-SANGA
'But Vaishnavs know how to utilize everything for the service of the Lord. So they are not afraid of anything good. All good, attractive, beautiful things, everything they will utilize for the service of the Lord. If our association with the environment is sadhu-sanga, with real beauty and love in truth, then everything will come to help us in our search for Krishna, Reality the Beautiful.'

Power of Pure Name
'I remember one very nice pastime when Mahaprabhu rescued a demigod's son, and there is also another pastime I heard about from the holy mouths of gurus and Vaishnavs. These pastimes show the result of chanting the Holy Name, but it must be the genuine, pure Holy Name...'

Control Your Heart
'The result of chanting the pure Holy Name is inconceivable. It is necessary to have faith and to have control over your mind and heart. Sincere Spiritual Life
"What do Vaishnavs distribute? They distribute that getting which all our desires can be removed. We have so many desires – we hanker for money, women and fame the tigress – but Vaishnavs distribute only Hari-katha, Bhagavat-katha. This is what service to jiva souls is."

(11) THE WORSHIP OF SRI MURTI
'There are some who startle at the theory of worshiping Sri Murti! “Oh”, they say, “it is idolatry to worship Sri Murti! Sri Murti is an idol framed by an artist and introduced by no other than Beelzebub himself. Worshiping such an object would rouse the jealousy of God and limit His omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence!” We would tell them: Brethren, candidly understand the question and do not allow yourselves to be misled by sectarian dogmas.'

Primary Stumbling Block
'Why should you practise Krishna consciousness, and why will you not practise Krishna consciousness? Why will you not call out to the Lord? What is the problem if you call out to the Lord? What is the problem if you chant the Holy Name of the Lord, if you take initiation, and if you think about the Lord?'

THE MAHAPRASAD OR 'THE GREAT FAVOUR’
(From The Harmonist)
'Eating is supposed to be a physical or mundane affair and to have no connection with the soul. The food that has been offered by the sadhus to the Lord is categorically different from ordinary food. To take ordinary food is harmful for the soul. By honouring mahaprasad not only is the soul saved from the bad effect of eating but is positively benefited by obtaining the inclination for spiritual service.'

—{ Sri Gurupadpadma's Hari-Katha: Year 2021 }—

29 JANUARY 2021 [KOLKATA | PART 4]

Eternal Servants
"We always forget that we are eternal servants of Krishna – we only remember it for a few moments and then forget about it again. When you took initiation from Gurudev, you took the beads saying you are an eternal servant of Lord Krishna. Are you a servant of Lord Krishna for ten years only?"

—{ Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math's Treasury }—

• GUARDIAN OF DEVOTION (2) •

(12) THE SIGNIFICANCE OF MAHAPRASAD
'The system of mahaprasad is not only emblematic of the superior life of the Vaishnavas, but it is a part of the worship which ordinary theists cannot fully understand. We cannot express the joy we often felt when we took the holy mahaprasad in the temple! The holiness we attach to it is its sweetness and often pray that all men may enjoy it.'

Attachment to the Conception
(From the holy mouth of Srila B.S. Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj)
'In our religious books we will see very simple-simple things, but the problem is that we cannot follow anything perfectly. If we tried to follow it, then only one sloka would be sufficient for our entire life. If we study them, we will have no problem provided we become attached to the conception expressed there.'

Sanatan-siksa: Breaking Free
His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj is reading from Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, chapter 22: 'Devotion to Krishna is the primary goal of life. Karma, yoga, jnana look up to bhakti; these practices have very little power—without devotion to Krishna, they cannot give the result.'

Where Krishna-katha is going on, Krishna always appears there. We cannot see it
with this kind of eyes because these eyes are always polluted with Maya.
